Lauren: Hi again… *Laughs*
Me: Hi
Anne: *Points* Look she has a list.
Lauren: *Laughs*
Me: Um, what are your feelings on how your character was wrapped up on the show? Or not wrapped up on the show…
Lauren: It’s just that. Yeah, I feel very unsatisfied. It’s difficult. I, I, I really loved being a part of the show and I, um really loved the character of Lara, and I was really, like I said before, I was really hoping they would give some…uhh…
Me: Closure
Lauren: Clarity, closure. Umm, yeah I feel that they really jumped ship with what was happening. Um, so yeah, I was pretty disappointed. Pretty disappointed about that. Especially coming and watching the first episode of season 4, and that’s when I found out my character apparently…
Me: Went to San Francisco
Lauren: Went to Yeah!
Anne: They didn’t even tell you?!
Lauren: They didn’t tell me!
Anne: Wow!
Lauren: So it was disappointing.
Me: A lot of people were disappointed.
Anne: Yeah, because you were very popular. A very popular character on that show. I mean…You know. Absolutely!
*Crowd cheers and claps*
Anne: I didn’t realise they didn’t end it properly.
Lauren: With any kind of…
Anne: Homage to you.
Lauren: yeah. No.
Anne: Oh, that’s too bad.
Lauren: So…
Anne: It happens!
Lauren: It’s does.
Me: There’s been quite a few characters that have just vanished.
Anne: Yeah…Accidentally, on purpose…
Lauren: Yeah, just kind of…Uhh, oooh…*Looks around to see where they‘ve gone*
Me: It’s kind of…I mean we never really got to know much about you.
Lauren: No.
Me: Even though you’ve been on it for 3 years. It’s like we’ll give her to lines and episode and then we’ll forget about her…
Lauren: Yeah. Right. Yeah.
Me: Then like towards the end of season 3 we got a lot more information about you.
Lauren: Exactly. And that was sort of how I was feeling about things as well. Uh, ok. I’m actually getting, uh, you know, involved a little bit more.
Anne: And then they just moved you to San Francisco?
Lauren: And then I moved to San Francisco.
Anne: *Shocked face*
Lauren: Apparently. I know.
Me: Yeah, It was a bit of a slap in the face for the fans.
Lauren: Yeah, a little bit.
Anne: How did you guys feel about that? Ripped off? Or…
Crowd: Boo
Lauren: *Laughs*
Anne: Yeah! I bet. It’s unfortunate when they do that.
Lauren: Yeah. It happens. It does happen. Unfortunately.
Anne: They have a different plan for the show or for the characters.
Lauren: Yeah, different characters. Yeah, exactly.
Me: Well, you’re missed on the show.
Lauren: Ooo… I miss the show.
Attendee: When you were growing up, who did you look up to? Or aspire to be like?
Lauren: Wow, umm. My first inspiration is actually kind of silly. Most people have these fantastic actors that they look up to, and I saw um, Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, and umm, I want to be, I wanted to be in that world. That world of make believe. And Ummm, and then, umm…David Bowie. My god! David Bowie. In Labret. Was it Labyrinth? I think it was? Yeah. It did it for me. And then as I got a little bit older, umm, Kate Blanchett, Kate Winslet. Juliet Lewis. Isabelle Hooper (? Hubert?). I could go on and on, on and on. *Laughs*
Attendee: Hiya!
Lauren and Anne: Hi
Attendee: Silly question, but can Lara ever come back? Will they leave it open? Or will they bring you back? We all want you back.
Lauren: I wish I knew. If I…I just heard there’s a sixth season. And if they ask me back, I’ll be there in a heartbeat. So we’ll see.
Attendee: Ok, thank you.
Lauren: No worries
Attendee: L Word bought Lesbian lifestyles into mainstream. Like, my sister’s straight. She watches the L Word. To her it’s perfectly normal, like Sex and the City. Things like that. They brought something into mainstream that was usually a taboo. What other areas of peoples lifestyles, or subjects do you think would be good to bring into mainstream?
Anne: I’m drawing a blank. I’m so sorry.
Lauren: I know. I’m like Jetlag…Hello! *Laughs* That’s a very smart question.
Anne: I guess basically you mean, what haven’t they covered because it’s taboo. Or it’s just not talked about? Did you ever see Big Love? About polygamy
Lauren: I think they’re really starting. I think television in general is really, they’re opening up into the… It used to be much different. I mean, we used to... HBO and Showtime and showcase have bought a whole new dynamic to television um, where there’s not nearly as many boundries, and I think that’s fantastic. I mean, I know personally that’s the only television I watch is…
Anne: I don’t even watch TV.
Lauren: No…*Laughs*
Anne: You know, it’s gonna come to me what’s not talked about. I mean, they have so much now.
Lauren: It’s kind of unbelievable how much. Kind of like they’re…
Anne: Even Intervention, talking about their addictions.
Lauren: Yep
Anne: I don’t know if you guys get that show here? What is it on? Discovery?
Lauren: On Discovery, yeah. That’s an intense show!
Anne: Yeah it is.
Lauren: But yeah, I feel like they’re covering so much right now. It’s kind of…
Anne: I think there could be more shows about gays and lesbians. Not just The L Word. You know what I mean. I think we’ll see more of that I hope.
Lauren: Yeah.
Anne: And I hope. This is my own selfish hope. That it’s not just about being a lesbian. I feel like sometimes The L Word is just about being a lesbian.
Lauren: Yeah.
Anne: and I just want them to happen to be lesbians. And have their lives.
Lauren: It doesn’t have to be a big, you know. It’s just part of life.
Anne: Yeah.
Attendee: If you could be another character on the show which one would it be? And in what scene?
Lauren: *Laughs* I love the scene uh, where Alice was uh, *laughs* was doing the yoga, and she was bawling her eyes out. *Laughs* That made me laaaaugh so hard. I could never do it any justice, but I would love to attempt to, to try that.
Attendee: I was just wondering what you thought of season 5 so far?
Lauren: *Whispers* I haven’t seen it.
Anne: I haven’t seen it.
Lauren: I don’t…Neither of us…We bonded, we bonded
Anne: We don’t…
Lauren: When we first met. Over not having television.
Anne: Yeah… Well we have television
Lauren: But no cable
Anne: But no cable
Lauren: Yeah
Anne: We get, we get…
Lauren: The DVD’s
Anne: Channels 2-13. At least I do.
Lauren: I don’t even have that
Anne: With the rabbit ears. Yeah
Lauren: Yeah
Anne: So I don’t have umm…
Lauren: And it’s not out on DVD yet. So I’m waiting.
Attendee: So what is your favourite season then?
Lauren: On a very selfish level. Umm…*Laughs* Season 3. *Laughs* I had the most sort of um, I felt that Lara was given the most, that she at that point had had. So, yeah.
*Crowd laughs*
Lauren: *Laughs*
Anne: Wow
Me: Hello…
Lauren: Hi!
Anne: Hi
Me: Hi…Um…I’ve lost myself now. Um, where was I? Umm.
Anne: What do you do for a living?
Me: I make jewellery.
Anne: Oh really? Nice.
Lauren: You make jewellery.
Me: What was that sorry?
Lauren: That’s very cool
Me: Uh, erm…I’m kind of bored of it. *Laughs* I’ve been doing it for 7 years now. I’m bored of it.
Lauren: Oh right.
Me: I’m bored. I want to move on. *laughs*
Lauren: What would you like to be doing?
Me: Ummm…
*Crowd laughs*
Anne: *Turns to Lauren* YOU!!!
Lauren: *Laughs*
*Crowd goes crazy laughing and clapping*
Anne: I mean, come on!
Lauren: *Points at me* OH! *Laughs*
Anne: *Laughs* I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
Lauren: *Still laughing*It just doesn’t stop. It just doesn’t stop.
Anne: I’m sorry. I’m going to hell. I know. I’m a bad person. I’m sorry.
Me: Ooooh…Thank you for that.
Lauren: *Laughs some more*
Anne: I owe you one.
Me: Um, Ah
*Everyone laughs some more*
Me: Um…Oh god…
*Anne and Lauren laugh some more*
Lauren: *Talking to Anne* Look what you’ve done!
Anne: I’m so so sorry. God will punish me I promise.
Me: It’s, it’s fine. My friends have been teasing me forever. Uhm…Mutant X. Your character left kind of unexpectedly. Um, and there’s a lot of rumour about how you left and why you left, I don’t know if you’re allowed to talk about it or not?
Lauren: Sure
Me: What exactly…
Lauren: I haven’t been on that show for years. I can say whatever I want!
Me: Oh, that’s cool. What happened with your character? Did you leave or…?
Lauren: I did. Yeah
Me: You did. It was your choice.
Lauren: Yeah. It was, it was my choice. Um, I had done 44 episodes, um, and that’s a lot! A lot of…
Me: It wasn’t the best show in the world…
Lauren: And it wasn’t the best show in the entire world. The expectations for the show were fantastic. And going into the show they had some really great ideas. And then half way through our budget went from like here *indicates high* to here *indicates REALLY low* And it just got… And they kept asking like, they kept asking me if I would wear less and less clothing in every episode. I was like yeeeah, I mean…yeah. When there’s not much else happening, going on in the show. And if you have to start…*Puts on a voice*Maybe if you start to wear a bikini throughout the whole thing we can get more people watching.
Anne: Wow, did they really start doing that?
Lauren: Yeah. It was pretty crazy. So I was kind of like…It was a mutual thing. They were very nice about letting me go.
Me: Well that’s good.
Lauren: Yeah, yeah. No hard feelings.
Me: Well you and Ada…umm, I forgotten his name. John?
Lauren: John Shea
Me: John Shea were kind of like the best things about the show, and you both left at the same time.
Lauren: Yeah, John was sort of in the same boat I was. We were both lead to believe we were…
Me: I think you were both too good for the show to be honest with you.
Lauren: Oh *Laughs*
Me: From a non fan-girl perspective. I think you were. You were the best thing about it. You had the weight of the show.
Lauren: Right. Well, quite honestly I had the strongest power. Sorry! But like I could have kicked everyone’s ass! So like… *Laughs*
Me: That was the only sort of disappointing thing about you going, was the fact that they sort of started going to a dark place with your character.
Lauren: Right and they kind of got stuck.
Me: And it was interesting to see where it was going. And then of course you both left.
Lauren: Right. It was time. It was time to move on.
Me: Cool, thank you.
Lauren: No worries.
