Much better than being placed in a time capsule, only to be discovered by future alien civilizations after we've annihilated ourselves (and then translated into the Zobar language of course). I'm sure they'd get a good laugh, but I wonder what this means for today's human anglophones?

Here's a couple of direct articles I found from Quebec TV, each followed by their goofy Altavista Babelfish translations
http://babelfish.altavista.com

Caroline Dhavernas, fille des comédiens Sébastien Dhavernas et Michèle Deslauriers, a beaucoup joué en anglais ces dernières années dans des séries, miniséries et films: Law & Order, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, The Baroness and the Pig, A Wilderness Station, Out Cold, Lost and Delirious, Heart: The Marilyn Bell Story et Running Home.

Tele-Quebec will diffuse the Wonderfalls series putting in the high-speed motorboat Québécoise Caroline Dhavernas

Montreal, March 9, 2004 -- It is during season 2004-2005 that Tele-Quebec will diffuse the French version of the American series Wonderfalls. Putting in the high-speed motorboat Québécoise Caroline Dhavernas in the role of Jaye Tyler, this series proceeding American side of the Niagara falls is scénarisée by Bryan Fuller (Trek Star : To travel) and Todd Holland (Malcolm in the Middle).

Mix between drama and comedy (a " dramedy ", say the American producers), Wonderfalls exploits humour and the fantastic one. The action turns around Jaye Tyler, girl in the score working in a souvenir shop. Its life is changed forever when objects or drawings representing of the animals are put to launch messages to him enigmatic which inevitably lead it to mix with the life of people needing assistance.

" We bought the rights of because the imagination of the scenario delighted us, the effectiveness of the realization allured us and the luminous presence of Caroline Dhavernas conquered us ", comments on Alain Ergas, director of acquisitions of Tele-Quebec.

Caroline Dhavernas, girl of the actors Sebastien Dhavernas and Michele Deslauriers, played much in English these last years in series, miniseries and films: Law & Order, Secret The Adventures of Jules Verne, The Baroness and the Pig, A Wilderness Station, Out Cold, Lost and Delirious, Heart: The Marilyn Bell Story and Running Home.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That the televiewers reassure themselves, they will be able to see the next year, in Tele-Quebec, the 13 episodes of the Wonderfalls series, putting in the high-speed motorboat the actress Caroline Dhavernas.

Diffused on the American chain Fox, the series was withdrawn from the schedule after only four episodes. Reason: insufficient dimensions of listening, in spite of an average of three million televiewers.

However, criticisms continue to be enthusiastic. One praises the humour and the originality of the series as well as the talent and the presence with the screen of Caroline Dhavernas, character high-speed motorboat of the series.

Except unforeseen major, Tele-Quebec will diffuse, as of the nearest autumn, the French version of Wonderfalls.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Somehow I don't think that referring to Caroline Dhavernas as the "high speed motorboat" of the series is an exact, direct translation. Although "the luminous presence of Caroline Dhavernas conquered us" sounds fairly accurate ;-)

And you gotta love the stated reason for cancelation: "insufficient dimensions of listening". That sounds about right (thinking of Fox executives of course).

I laughed so hard at the silly translations, I almost fell off my chair! (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/lol.gif)
So I had to register and post a few explanations.
"Mettant en vedette Caroline Dhavernas" means starring Caroline ... LOL! I'm still shaking with laughter. "Vedette" means both star (as in showbiz) and patrol boat. Hence the confusion.

The rest is pretty much understandable, I think, despite the pronouns mix-up. A few lines down, there's another confusion between "girl" and "daughter", which are both fille in French.

In the other article, "cotes d'écoutes" of course means ratings, not "insufficient dimensions of listening". (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/confused.gif) Like we say in Quebec, "Dekessé?" or "What'sat?"

Hope this will help!

I'm looking forward to watching it on Télé-Québec, although with a dubbed version, you always miss on some of the quirky humor (re: my sig). Hopefully, if it's dubbed here and not in France, it'll be based on a better knowledge of English. I watched a few seasons of Buffy eps in French (having seen them in English first); it was obvious the translators didn't get half the jokes and cultural references.

Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins on tonight! Considering the coincidence of the posters here, I thought I'd make note of it. Hopefully it won't be Montreal's last this year. Of course I'd like to root for my own city's team, but they were... umm... cancelled. Reason: insufficient winnings and dimensions of ticket sales.

What does this have to do with Wonderfalls?? (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/confused.gif)

Nothing really, just a bit of communication. jadde is from Montreal and Vallygirl mentioned being a Bruins fan. If anything, it only relates in that I can't watch Wonderfalls on Thursday evenings, so I'll watch something else instead (and not "Reality TV"). Once hockey playoffs are over however, television will go back to sucking again. As far as I'm concerned, the only reality TV worth watching is sports and documentaries. At least they are actually real.

I think all has been pretty much said and done concerning Wonderfalls, at least until something new and positive actually happens, like it airing on television again or (hopefully) a full season set of DVDs being released.

Yesterday I tried to vote for Wonderfalls on TVShowsOnDVD.com but it's (still) suspended. Maybe there really never was much of a problem with duplicate accounts being made. I'm starting to think that they may have just not understood why so many people would sign up so quickly in such a short amount of time, and found it suspicious or believed it to be artificially generated. Rather than dealing with the actual onslaught phenomenon, they may have decided to just pick out the possibility of a few fake accounts as being the excuse for why they should suspend it. That's my new conspiracy theory anyway. (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/skep.gif)

information. I'm not sure people even realize they are doing wrong this time? (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/confused.gif) I know there were at least 2 sites I voted on for Roswell and Farscape that your could vote up to once a day.

TV Shows on DVD are very professional. They wouldn't have suspended voting if they didn't have proof (ie. several accounts from one IP address) that duplicate accounts were being made. They are not the enemy here.
