According to Variety:

Majandra Delfino ("Roswell") and Aimee Garcia ("Greetings from Tuscon") have been added to the cast of CBS' comic book drama "Ultra," from CBS Paramount Network TV.

I know we should be sceptical especcilally after the false buzz with Three Moons Over Milford but i had to bring it over here!

Delfino, meanwhile, joins Aimee Garcia in Ultra, also from CBS Par TV, based on the comic-book series about a single, city-girl superhero. Garcia will play the role of Kyra, and Delfino will play Suzette.

Feb.24.06 - Peter Dinklage Joins Ultra

Variety reports that Peter Dinklage ("The Station Agent") has been added to the cast of CBS' Ultra. He'll play "The Scientist".

Ultra, from CBS Paramount Network TV, revolves around a female superhero who must contend with saving the world while pursuing a life as a single girl in the city. In the comic book, which parodies celebrity magazines, Ultra's alter ego, Pearl Penalosa, is a semi-icon who graces billboards advertising popular products.

Lena Headey plays Penny in the show.

OUR NOTE: Pearl's name has been changed to Penny in the Ultra TV series.

Feb.14.06 - Lena Headey is ULTRA

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lena Headey will play a single, city-girl superhero in Barbara Hall's comic-book-based drama pilot "Ultra" for CBS.

Headey is currently onscreen in the feature "Imagine Me & You," and appeared last year in "The Brothers Grimm."

Barbara Hall is the creator of the series "Joan of Arcardia" and developed "Judging Amy."

The Least You Need to Know – Pearl Penalosa is an average modern young woman, who deals with friends, relationships and her job (which just happens to as a professional super heroine).

Ultra has thus far been one of the best efforts to combine slice of life reality with the traditional superhero comic. Personally, I rather like the amalgamation, but it is skewed in one direction. If you like seeing amazing feats and buildings being knocked down, you’re in the wrong book. This title is light on physical action. If enjoy witty dialogue and drama based on personalities and emotion, you’re missing out on a good title.

The most obvious comparison I’ve seen drawn for this book is Sex and the City. As a fan of that show, I can see some similarities although in many ways, Ultra seems more realistic to me. SitC can come across as shallow at times (and it is at times) which turns some people off. Ultra’s Pearl is a well rounded character, who has strengths and weakness, which the brother’s let readers discover in a gradual and subtle matter. She is an accessible character, a person you could imagine being a friend or neighbor. Meanwhile, the Luna’s handling of the superhero world is done in such an amusingly blasé manner, you never have a problem questioning the unreality of it.

Don’t mistake this book for all touchy/feeling, talking heads either. The Luna’s have provided some great “super-hero-y” gags, including an amusing sequence involving brain-freeze, sex and super powers that really needs to be read to believed.

Finally, the art on this comic provides a cinematic sense that suits the material well. There is a nice middle ground between “realistic” and cartoon, which gives the series a distinctive look. The final element that ties it all together is the incredible color palette used, that washes the entire comic in a subdued feeling, grounding it in reality.

The Bottom Line – While Ultra may seem a little slow moving to some, the unique fusion between reality and fantasy creates a very compelling world. Top notch art combined with well-written dialogue and just a hint of humor makes Ultra a comic I would heartily recommend.

The TV pilot for CBS' "Ultra" has now been booked into Toronto Film Studios, 629 Eastern Avenue in Toronto.

Executive producer is Barbara Hall, with Co-Exec. Producers Dave Engel and Dave Alpert.

Canadian actress Helen "Highballin'" Shaver, also noted as a television director for her work on numerous episodes of "Judging Amy", helms a cast headed by sexy Lena Headey as 'Ultra' and Peter Dinklage as the 'Scientist'.

"Ultra" revolves around a female superhero who must contend with saving the world while pursuing a life as a single girl in the city.

In the comic book series, which parodies the trappings of 'celebrity', Ultra's alter ego, 'Pearl Penalosa', is a semi-icon model who graces billboards and tabloid magazines, promoting the popular brands of the day.

Production Manager of "Ultra" is Ross Leslie.

Producer Frank Siracusa, who started as a driver on Maurice Smith's 1980's police motorcycle comedy "Recruits", to become one of Canada's top producers, supervises the shooting, March 22 to April 10.
