Katie Holmes Fact Sheet

Full Name: Katherine Noelle Holmes (as per Jules Asner's intro to her story on E!'s Revealed. Family members, Chris Klein and now Tom Cruise all call her "Kate" though)

Birthdate: December 18th, 1978

Birthplace: Toledo, Ohio

Parents: Martin and Kathleen Holmes, her dad is a prominent attorney in Toledo and her mom is a homemaker and Cancer survivor.

Siblings: Katie has 4 siblings: one older brother, Martin Jr., also an attorney, and 3 older sisters, Tammy, Holly and Nancy.

Education: Ms. Holmes attended an all girls catholic School in Toledo, Notre Dame Academy, where she got straight As and played Basketball. She was enrolled by her mom in the Margaret O'Brian School of Modeling and took acting and dancing lessons. Though she alledgedly got 1310 in her SATs and was admitted at Columbia University, being cast in Dawson's Creek and her interest in acting and budding career kept her busy and she has yet to formally enroll. She did take a photography course in Columbia in between season 1 and 2 of DC.

Relationships: As per several interviews and E!'s "Revealed", Katie first real BF was actor Josh Jackson. They dated for about 8 months before DC even began to air way back in 1997. She met Chris Klein through their agents and they started dating around fall of 1999. They were engaged in december 2003, but after 5 years together the couple broke up, pressumably sometime in early 2005. The official announcement came from their agents in March. Rumors of her dating actor Josh Harnett were never confirmed. On April 27th, 2005, Ms. Holmes arrived in Rome as Tom Cruise's date, thus beginning the media phenom known as TomKat. They became engaged atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris on June 2005. On April 18th, 2006, the couples first child together, Suri, was born.

There is still controvercy about Katie's name being Kate and not Katherine, right? I know what she said at Giant Magazine when they asked if she one day would go for Katherine Holmes and she answered her real name was Kate, that was how her family and friends called her. I know, I know there is no way to know if we don't ask her straight out but I think that what she meant then was that Kate is more her name than her birth name (what would be Katherine) because that is how everyone calls her (I know how that feels, I've stopped introducing myself with my birthname for sometime now). Anyway, that just got me puzzled. Before and even after that magazine all info was that her name is Katherine and Kate is only and nickname just like Katie.

According to the Insider, she still is and was with her at the Instyle party.

As far as i remember, since i started to follow her career back in 2001, Katie has always been signed with CAA. This is not a recent development. She switched agents, not agency. And i remember very well the name of Hylda Queally mentioned in that Radar article.

That article however was not about the agent, but the publicist issue.
But it was the first time i saw the name of Hylda Queally as her agent.

Carla: KHP has her as 'Kate". I have seen both Kate and Katherine in writen dox, but have always, since way back in her Reveal interview, heard her parents and siblings, as well as Chris Klein in other interviews, call her Kate. (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/shrug.gif)

G, I know you don't want a big discussion here, but both the KHP Biography and KHP Compendium list her full name as Katherine Noelle Holmes. To the best of our knowledge, that is indeed the name on her birth certificate.

I think the confusion with the media (even GIANT magazine) comes from what she prefers to be called as opposed to her actual birth name or the name she uses professionally. I mean, Josh Jackson is still a "Joshua" no matter which way you slice that apple! (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/lol.gif)

Ok, I was under the impression that Katie switched reps at CAA and is now with Rick Nicita and Kevin Huvane. She was formerly represented by Brandt Joel .And yes Leslie is out and I don't think Katie has hired another publicist. Sorry, I don't know if that helps!

In a nutshell...

Agents get the work. Along with lawyers, they are the only ones authorized by the state of California to negotiate contracts. Depending on their career pursuits, one star can have a number of different agents covering music, concerts, TV, movies, commercials and print work. That's the great thing about an agency like CAA: they're all under one roof. KH was already with CAA, I believe; she just moved up a notch in terms of who is looking for work for her.

Managers provide career guidance. They think long-term (how will this contribute to the whole) as opposed to the shorter term, how much money can we make today? Though, contrary to what most people think, artists don't HAVE to have managers--but if you find a skilled one, it's a good person to have in your corner. The bad ones try to control a client; the good ones work in tandem with them, provide the information to make an informed decision, and then leave the ultimate yea or nay to the artist. Either way, their goal is to protect the artist and his or her career.

Publicists, like you said, generate personal publicity (through various media sources), and manage the public relations aspect of a celebrity's career. Some stars defer entirely to the unit publicist on a movie production--but most recognize the changing media climate and have PR agencies on retainer to handle the personal, day to day demands.

That's another difference between the three. Agents and managers take commissions based on work they have generated; a publicist is kept on a monthly retainer (sometimes making more on special projects).

Leslie Sloane-Zetnick is a publicist. Everyone always thought Gary Montoosh also worked in PR, but it seems to me he may have been management instead. Does anyone know for sure?

The one figure I do know is Hylda Queally, who's now at CAA. She is/was Kate Winslet's agent and KW always swore by her, said she was the best. If she is indeed representing KH now, as rumored (not Rick Nicita), I think we can expect some surprises in the future.

MS, Gary does work in PR. I'm pretty sure he just works along Leslie. Leslie handles the New York office and I think Gary works at the LA office. Katie's manager was John Carrabino.

It's Montoosh who confuses me because, like most managers, he seemed to be with KH everywhere. In New York and L.A.--and then, like most personal publicists, on the BB European tour as well. I know people always said PR, but he seemed to be much more than that.

I know Leslie Sloane "cleaned house" this past year. I wonder if he's still there...

I don't know if you remember when Katie's career first started, Leslie was present for a lot of interviews, premieres and such. So maybe since Leslie started to take many more clients, Gary took over the traveling and such with katie. Maybe? (IMG:style_emoticons/mediablvd/confused.gif)
