Sorry, I thought you were taking INDUSTRIAL DESIGN and wanted to get advice on how to do what I do.
Most of my advice still applies, though. If you want to make props, make samples of your own and show them to the right people. Make replicas and do them well (showcasing your particular strengths) and you will attract interest. Again, there are a few companies that do this sort of thing in Vancouver, and you just need to look up a film directory to find them. Most makeup/props people I know are really nice guys who will take time out to see a new "craftsperson".
Again, work is sporadic, but get to know the right people, and you will be called back more and more often.

Eric is in Hong Kong at the moment (should be back on Monday). But yes, I'm sure he would answer questions... So ask a way, and I will have him take a look at this thread next time I talk to him.

Hi there CylonGod: first time caller, longtime listener and fan:
Did you make the design for the Heavy Raider? What was the idea behind that "flying capital H" design they have? (I think they are super-cool)
Because when we asked Ron he said Raptors are more like a Navy Intruder; an ECM ship, than a transport and they were apparently never meant for combat.
Heavy Raiders look more like just a "heavier raider" with better guns and a combat ship, with some transport capability. Is it supposed to have a pilot or is it organicly piloted too?
***What are the tradeoffs in the design? I.e. it's got better guns; is it not as fast? Because in Lay Down Your Burdens 2 it looks like they're slowever when they're over new Caprica.
Next question; the "ribs" on Galactica: I've heard reports that it HAD plate armor that was removed, and the ribs were underneath; is that true? Or are the ribs supposed to be exposed like that?
Final: Lots of fans wonder why the Centurions never talk. When you were in the design phase, talking about how these things should act, etc. did Ron & Gary & Co plus you talk about them as if they'd be, well, interacting with characters and talking, you just never did it?

Well, first off, I did not design the Heavy Raider. By that time, Enigma Studios and I had parted ways and when they were contracted to do the HR design, they went behind my back and contacted my friend Richard Livingston to design it. In regards to the ribs, I believe that the ribs were always part of the design. In my opinion, they are a defense feature that would protect the Galactica from any incoming missiles unless they approached it from a perpendicular trajectory. Any angular deviation from 90 degrees would have the missile impact the ribs and not the hull underneath. And since this is space, we don't gotta worry about aerodynamics, do we? The Centurions never talked in the script, so I never brought the question up. Anyways, I think they are creepier when they are silent, don't you? QUOTE(The_Merovingian @ May 6 2006, 10:21 AM) The suspence is palpable...
Well, all I can say for now is that my future plans involve Cholly & Flytrap, one or two features and an animated TV series that we are producing ourselves...

Hi,
I have a question about the sets of the Pegasus. What sets where built? I know of the CIC, some floors , the brig and the quarter of the commander, but what else was built? And can you post some photos of these sets?

Wish I could tell you, but I am not working on the show anymore, but generally, if you didn't see it on the show, then it wasn't built. There simply is no budget to just go ahead and build sets if they are not going to be used for that particular episode. I would suspect for something like the Pegasus, unlike the Galactica, the sets would be modular to be assembled when a particular episode calls for it. Since the Galactica is seen in every episode, then those sets would remain standing. Usually, it is too expensive to have sets lying around taking up studio space unless it is going to be used frequently. However, if the Pegasus is going to figure prominently in future storylines, perhaps they are still standing after all... (IMG: style_emoticons/mediablvd/wink.gif) Unfortunately I do not have any photos. Sorry.

...Actually, I have an answer for that one. The Pegasus sets were cannibalized from sets that were built for the 2004 Lost In Space reimaging that FOX did and then shelved because it...well, it stank on ice even worse than the 1997 "Dysfunctional Family Robinson" movie. According to Moore and Eick, they picked up the entire sets for less than pennies on the dollar, and with some paint in the right places only someone who had a copy of the LiS2k4 pilot would be able to figure out what was recycled. And since FOX has AbZero intentions of releasing the pilot(*) only people like me who've got bootleg copies would have access to the pilot to make the attempt. One of these days I might do so, but only if I get a far better copy than the one I've got, which is like EP VHS recorded to EP VHS at least three generations deep, then low-q capped in DiVX. Watchable, but not good enough for research purposes. (*) For the opposite reasons they won't be releasing the Time Tunnel reimaging from 2k2. That one wound up being far better than FOX had expected, and when they looked at the budgeting they realized that to keep up with the quality of the pilot they'd need a per-episode budget of damn near $2M. Like BSG threatened to be, it was too good and expensive for TV.

QUOTE(lencheski @ Jul 1 2006, 06:07 PM) So, cylon God what are you working on right now.....anything that you can spill about season three.... what other projects are you able to discuss?
Can't spill anything about season 3, because I am not currently working on it. However, that doesn't mean I'm not busy... here's what I have been up to: - From time to time I contribute to the Hollywood North Report doing illustrations for their BSG Tech Blog. The show's tech advisor, Kevin Grazier, and I try to explain some of the show's technical aspects in layman's terms. So if anything has been bugging you about the show's scientific speculations, write in and ask, and I'll illustrate it too!
- This summer I will be heading up to Comic Con again. Even a Cylon God needs to rest and relax... This year I believe they are debuting the Cylon Centurion action figure, which I am thrilled about! If any of you buy one and happen to see me there, stop me and I will bless your pagan idol of worship.
- I will also be debuting a new teaser trailer for our latest project, the animated version of comics artist Arthur Suydams's CHOLLY AND FLYTRAP. It's all turning out pretty well and it looks terrific!
- I have a couple of other BIG projects coming up, which I cannot talk about too much yet, however, it involves a feature film and an animated TV series. Both will be very cool and I cannot wait to get started. When things are more solid, I will announce it here.
That's it for me, what are YOU working on now?
