Well since there is one for the guys i don't see why us girls shouldn't have one too!

Actually I am just curious i mean i love this show and I start to wonder why i do (minus the obvious reason that this is one of the few quality plot, acting shows out there) watch this show. Is it because I am curious?

I host L word parties for all of my girlfriends and we all love it and sometimes wish we were these georgous women.
Messerschmitts
Hey lost, welcome to the board! Glad that you enjoy the show too.

Well, the ladies too kinda have one; it's called the L word forum! Ha ha ha!! Just kidding. I started that other thread because despite the fear that many lesbians had about this show being whored out to straight men, the fans I encountered on the boards were 98% female. So, I was curious if there were any other guys out there that genuinely liked the show. Including me, I think we've had 3 on this board. tongue.gif

Well I figure this much. i think i am the only one gasping when i see Tim's ass. Although he is no brad pitt he still has a nice butt.

lol.gif Ha ha, that's great. Well, I'm glad someone enjoyed his butt. Both the straight male and gay female fans are always yelling for Tim to "get off the stage!" whenever he's on. Kinda sad I guess. Although I have read a gay man writing about his appreciation for Lisa the LIM, and his dreams of turning him into GIM (gay-identified man).

Btw I got my straight female best friend completely hooked on the show. She's salivating for the next episode, since I'm the one who has them all on my computer and I portion them out to her one episode at a time. Ha ha! tongue.gif So far she feels really sorry for Tim too, but doesn't hate Jenny.

Hmm...your new thread needs some more posters. I'm a guy so I guess I really shouldn't even be in this thread. C'mon ladies, don't be shy! Some of you must be straight, unless Marina got to you all...

Thanks for starting this thread; I was beginning to think I was the only one (and it might turn out that we're the only two). Anyway, yeah, I wonder why I watch this show too. I mean, I like it. The characters and story intrigue me. And I admire the talent of the cast--especially Kate. But I do wonder what it is about the show as a whole that makes me just LOVE it.

When you ask if you watch because you're curious, do you mean curious about lesbianism? I don't think that's the case with me (although I have to admit, I have discovered a few things here and there while watching the show); I find myself watching because I'm inexplicably hooked. Why I'm hooked, I don't know.

Nah, you're not the only one. I do find Tim attractive from certain angles (wink, wink). wink.gif But I have to say, I did gasp more when I saw hot biker guy's ass (from the pilot, the guy Bette and Tina tried to "steal sperm" from).

Being turned on by looking at some guy's or girl's a** does not mean you straight or gay. People turned on by different things lol.gif

I know I am not "exclusively straight" coz I am attracted to women sometimes but I am more into men so I just catagorize myself straight or bi. And yes, I find Tim very HOT. I really love it when he is shirtless grin.gif

The guy who tries to have a threesome with Bette&Tina looks damn cute too. Nevertheless, I'm not interested in looking at threesomes. Just have gay or straight sex scenes, please. Especially with a lesbian show like TLW, a threesome with a guy is kinda offensive in my opinion.
expected_miracles
hey ladies...and Messerschmitts. Glad to see i'm not the only straight girl who watches. I started watching cause I was at my friends place(she's gay)and she was watching. I got hooked by the storyline...and the humor. This show is sometimes hysterical. Especially any scene with Leisha Hailey. Oh...Tim is definately hot wink.gif
dirt
i thought i was rare here too but yeah I was just flicking channels one day and saw it and became hooked. I don't know why and i admit i think shane is hot
lost
Yeah my friends and i all watch this show together. I can't even remember how it started.

We were a little worried that Tim is only hot becuse he is the only guy we can google about. Even though we all agree Jennifer Beals looks great and that we wish we can look that good when we are 40
Messerschmitts
So, what's the verdict on Tim then, ladies? Do you girls want him to stick around on the show? Just curious, as on many other threads amongst the "other" ladies he is decidedly unpopular.
rhea
I watched the show bec im a huge fan of Lauren Lee Smith (who plays Lara Perkins). Now, i cant wait for the 2nd season and see what happens to Dana when Lara comes back. wink.gif I really dont have a problem with these kinds of shows, you know, shows with "edge" hehehe...Im also a fan of the Fab5's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". Let's just say that im an open-minded person smile.gif I love my gay(homo/les) friends!!!! They rock! cool.gif
sadie
Glad to know others are out there. Though I have been in the other forums, I am careful how I say things, because I do not want to offend anyone. I also find myself drawn to the show. I turn it on thinking it was going to be a take off of Sex in the City, What was I Thinking!!!!!!!!!! However, I find the cast to do a super job of acting, and the story lines are great. They had great writers, Now there are some new ones, will see where this goes. I personally loved the Bikers ass, and thought he was rather good looking. Hopefully Tina can hook up with him and not bother with the AI. would lead for another good story line. However, I am enjoying the spoilers they keep sharing. Hope they give us some info on what is going to happen with Bette and Tina, I dont forsee them getting together all to soon. And even wonder if Tina will be back.
#1Crush
So, ladies...
What is your take on the sex scenes in the show?

Do you enjoy the sex scenes that have men in them more or less than the ones between women? Or are they equally stimulating?

Personally the sex scenes between Tim and Jenny did nothing for me. But then I am attracted more to women than men.
sadie
Ok, Crush, since you have asked I can only speak for myself, When it came to the sex scenes in the beginning I found it to be a bit uneasy for me. It took some getting use to. I even watched the pilot ep over again when it came on, this time I was more open minded. If sex scenes are done right, it can be stimulating. I can be classfied as a prude, according to some. I look at it from the point of view, of it feels right for you then go for it, if not, dont. The biker feels right for me. I know they are bring another male into the show, dont know who he is, but I would like to see the biker guy back in there. If I was younger I would chase his ass around the block a few times, before I got tired of course. Hope this helps to answer your question about the sex scenes, hopefully one does not have to label their sexual preference to enjoy a good series. It makes no difference who thinks Tina or Bette or Shane etc is hot because they all are good looking people, and if one has the hots for them ok; in the case of TLW it had everything going for it in S1, lets see what S2 brings. And yes, I know this is the first of its kind for women. But as a women that is straight I have enjoyed the show for what is, for what it can bring to the table regardless of sexual preference. It opens one mind to accept one for whom they are, NOT what they are.
lost
As I saw on a pin once, "I am straight, not narrow"

I was uncomfortable with the sex scenes at first. Basically anything with Jenny and Marina in it I am still uncomfortable.

However the Bette and Tina ones weren't so bad, for some reason I can feel that they are in love which was ok with me. I don't konw why, and as time progressed i viewed them as a unit.

Dont' get me wrong i get uncomfortbale at hetero sex scenes too when it's not tastefully done. Some of them you just rolleyes.gif at it and some are like awwww... so yeah i guess for me it's more like how believable it is and to see if there is chemistry.
rhea
yeah, i agree with you lost.there are times when im uncomfortable with a hetero sex scene. In TLW,i dont like watching the Jenny-Marina sex scenes bec um, i think they dont look like a "hot" couple at all,i think they're mismatched (Marina's too tall for Jenny lol.gif ).Bette and Tina's i find well-done.But the best i think is still the kissing scenes AND sex scene of Lara and Dana! thumbsup.gif They're just HOT..HOT..HOT.. I dont know, but there is just something about a girl-girl kissing scene that turns even straight people on. confused.gif

I find the early tina and bette kissing very cute. It's like awww... i wish i have a bette or a tina in my life. I mean if Jennifer Beals hit on me hell i am not going to be straight anymore... blush.gif

I guess it's all a fantasy still. Bottomline it's just love i am attracted to. Or brad pitt... brad pitt is just sex with legs
lifenlove26
Hey everyone
another straight person here, the l word fan. I think I feel very comfortable adding something here, 'cause I have been in the other forums and felt like I did not belong there, as sadie said 'do not want to offend anyone'....
I thought I was the only straight (married) person watching this show and had apsolutely noone to talk about it.
I love this show and I'm a Bette/Tina fan. I think they look really cute together.
Why I find myself drawn to it? I don't know!...Curiosity? I don't know!...
Is it something us straight (+married) women wish could experience if we had a chance confused.gif ? I don't know!...

Anyone has a good answer?.....
lost
Well being straight (at least to my own knowledge) but not married i can say that i am very drawn to the whole Bette and Tina relationship as well. I think when i see them on screen it just seems well.... right... that they are together. THey really love each other based not only for what's on the outside but inside as well.

And they are not some fairytale love story either in which they don't have a temper or have little fights, but the thing is they work it out. They smooth things out and regardless of what Bette did banghead.gif , they do still love each other...
Charlie'sAngel
Well I was straight until I watched the show wink.gif hehehe

The thing about TLW is this - it's tapped into a television market that we women (and men) love to watch - Hot, successful women doing their own thing, with witty scripts revolving around relationships - the only difference is that TLW is based on lesbian women and more or less lesbian relationships - it's really the first of its kind - hence all the confusion!!! Whether straight or gay-we can all identify with the lust/love/heartbreak/angst/friendship/family....themes written throughout the series

So-what I say-dont worry about being confused-just go with the flow and enjoy the show (not meaning to rhyme there) and in a few years it wont matter - the whole "should I be getting aroused at these two women getting it on?" question wont be an issue - it'll be accepted - and quite rightly so-because it shouldnt be about sex-it should be about love- and you cant help who you fall in love with!!
sadie
[/img] confused.gif Lifenlove, can only say one is drawn to it, if one has never been exposed to the life style. Yes, we are all women who can relate to the trials of relationships, and everything it may emcompass, it does not matter if its same sex, or hetero, everyone experiences it. I am also in your shoes there, I find myself drawn to it. Philosophers in Plato and Socrates time, when they use the figure of speach of to love totally, they mean it in the sense that they love the person whole being, and in that time they hung with the males, so homosexuality was no biggie for them, for their thing, was to truly be in love with that person regardless of sex, race, etc. I guess we can just say, we are broadening our horizon. However, no matter how good looking those women are I dont think I can cross the line, I could be there friend but that would be as far as I could take it. Now if someone else wants to take it futher go right ahead, its ok by me.

I totally agree. I think the crowning achievement the L word is showing me (and hopefully others) that lesbian relationship, other than comprising of two women, are virtually exactly the same as any heterosexual relationship. There's the same drama, frustration, insecurities, jealousies, trust, beauty, and love that we find in the straight world. They're just like us, we have nothing to reject or discriminate against. We're all one big happy family! bawl.gif Waah, so beautiful!

I am fine with most sex scenes, gay or straight. Straight ones don't turn me on though, but they don't bother me either. Having said that, I'm definitly gay. For years I swore I was straight, but that was a big fat lie. Then I swore I was bi, but deep down the truth was obvious. I totally am wayyyy more into women. It's women that do it for me. I've been with guys.. and I can honestly say I was never turned on. But being with a woman.. it's.. I don't know any other words to describe it other then amazing. It changed my whole life and turned it upside down. I know how Jenny felt, but it's not to say I made the same decisions she made. That's where our similiarities end thankfully. But then again, I wasn't engaged and with a guy at the time...

Also I have friends that are straight that absolutely love the show. They like the storylines, and the characters, the dialoge, the Alice funny, just like all other fans! They just don't lust after the characters, like someone who shall remain nameless.. leaving.gif

Charlie'sAngel
ok-that quote turned out well confused.gif not!! wink.gif

Anyhoo- yeah Messers-in the sex scene with Lisa and Alice I was like "what's he doin????" and Rhea - I agree- never met a guy like him ever...well not yet anyways - didnt even know they existed wink.gif
sadie
I only can add I think Alice attracts to special people like Lisa. I did not even know people like that existed, please do not take offense to this last remark, did not know how to state it. Anywhoo just got off the web site for TLW, rumor has it IC does not consider B&T to have broken up, I would like to know what one would call it, when you leave and stay at a friends for a month or so?? Also IC implied they have asked Marina back, looks like the ball is in her court now.
Messerschmitts
I think Lisa the LIM may just be a pre-op MTF transsexual who's maybe too scared to go for the surgery. I've heard that a goodly number of trans people are 'queer' too; that is, for Lisa if she ever decided to become a woman, 'she' continues to be attracted to women, thus making her a real lesbian.

And a disclaimer, I am NOT Lisa on weekends! rant.gif If I were in bed on a yacht with Alice, I think I'd have better things to do than pull out a dildo. tongue.gif
sadie
Messer, I did not notice that it looked like any surgery was preformed on Lisa. I can only say Lisa had the mind set of a female, but that was all, the rest was all male from my stand point. [/img] confused.gif Just what is a transgender?
Messerschmitts
Sadie, I think you may have misread my post. I said Lisa looked pre-op, that she hasn't gone through any surgery, but was perhaps transgendered (is really a lesbian woman inside). I think 'transsexual' and 'transgendered' have a very murky distinction.
trippinjenny

as far as I understand it:

transgender = people who emotionally feel like* the opposite gender but don't feel the need to make the physical transition because they might not be necessary bothered by the body they're inhabiting

transsexual = pre op and post op people who emotionally feel like the opposite gender and are actively seeking to make the physical transition, as well

don't quote me, though, as I've probably got my details wrong.

Shelby
I think trippin got it pretty close.

I was always told that transsexual is one who actually plans on going through with the full surgery. There are people who have the hormonal treatment, live as a male or female full time, but never have the complete surgery. I think that is the transgender category.

So, what's the verdict on Tim then, ladies? Do you girls want him to stick around on the show? Just curious, as on many other threads amongst the \"other\" ladies he is decidedly unpopular.

He could wander around the show like the gay character Stanford on Sex and the City. But his relationship with Jen turns so bad, full of hostility at the end of season 1 that I doubt there is any reason for him on the show. I mean more loved people like Annette and Marina will be written off so Tim has no chance to stay. Unless Alice's hooked up with Tim lol.gif . But Alice's relationships with men has never been explored, just flash through in an instant. I always have the feeling that the writers never want to develop a stable relationship storyline between Alice and another man. Men are just there to reaffirm her bisexuality confused.gif

I personally wish Tim's relationship with Jen to turn better than that and wanna see Tim stay as a regular guest. Just dropping by sometimes smile.gif

As much as I like having a male character on the show--it provides a nice counterbalance to all the estrogen--I don't think Tim's character carries enough weight in terms of importance; to me, his character was simply one end of Jenny's emotional tug-of-war. He didn't exist outside of that storyline. Unless they give Tim something substantial to do (and I don't see how they can, with so many other characters to explore), I agree with Cindy: Tim can be a regular guest, if not off the show completely.

And on that note, I personally wouldn't mind if Hot Biker Guy took Tim's place as the male character on the show.

As far as the sex scenes go, I'm fine with whatever, gay or straight, as long as it's tastefully done, and in my opinion, the sex scenes on the L Word--while bold, and sometimes explicit and risque--don't cross the line into being gratuitous, offensive, or unnecessary. Also, I watched a few episodes of Queer as Folk before tuning into the L Word, and after watching those QAF boys (and girls) go at it, I was prepared for anything. smile.gif
lost
Yeah I know eh? some of the QAF sex scenes was hard to stomach. After that I am like man bring on anything i am game for it.

It's not as much as sex here i think. QAF is more like two ppl going at it. The L word is more tastefully done, more love felt...

I like this scenerio. Tina is hot sh!t ya know remember Bette was commenting how some girl was hitting on Tina and she was like no no she was drunk. So now that she is single i am sure girls will be lined up around the block offering a shoulder for her to cry on.
