Thanks Lisa,
Question for Aaron,
You indicated you have a fair bit of free time on your hands, apart from work and watching ice hockey

....I think you said it was the difference of 50 days in 365.
Noticed you were asking about fans sci fi reading and watching recommendations on the board, so......
What have you been reading in down time of late, and what are you browsing now.
Oh, and for my recommendations...not strictly sci fi/fantasy but...
Both take a poke at the real world
Terry Pratchetts Disc World series.....especially start with any of the titles to do with the Night Watch......"Guards! Guards!"..."Jingo"..."The Night Watch".....These guys are a cross between the militia and the police in a mythical city called Ankh Morepork....Its such a laugh.
The "Yes Minister" and "Yes Prime Minister" books based on the 1970/80s English BBC TV series......comedy/satire on the eternal struggle between the civil service and thier elected political "masters",in this case CS secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and his wet boss the Hon. Jim Hacker.......so funny it can be scary.

Besides Chief Tyrol, what other role(s) did you especially like & why??
Keep in touch guy.
And yes, this is the one & only KR.
P.S. They started showing promos for your new BSG series on Sci-Fi so with any luck, you will be on for a number of years fighting Cylons. And boy, that's no easy job when some look like Six & Boomer, right?

Hey Chief,
first off - like the character, a strait up and hands on kinda guy, and you play it well.
one question, when/if Tyrol finds that Boomer is a sleeper how do you feel he will react? (edit: that's if she's the sleeper

)
best of luck to you and all other cast members (from a die hard TOS fan), think all of cast did a terrific job! Looking forward to the new series.

Hi Aaron,
Ive opened a thread on BSG called who would you like to see on BSG in a guest role.........I started with James Masterson (sic) Spike from "Buffy" & "Angel".....as a angry young man (freighter skipper, colonial officer, outpost settler).
So do you have a wish list of guest stars and in what role?
Cheers!
Chief Tyrol
Jul 26 2004, 06:35 PM
I like most things I do because they are usually so different. I don't really get type casted at all and that allows me to do many other things.
Guest stars? Any of the Trek guys would be cool. I will think about that one and get back to you.
I think tyrol will probably go into denial when the truth about Boomer gets out but as all men when it sinks in he will be the one most betrayed and somehow understanding of her 'I didn't know' response. I still think Tyrol should be the one to kill her.
I am reading a lot of James Patterson right now and Douglas Preston. I like the mystery escape. After this I am moving onto some sci-fi. I am just trying to figure out which one.
thanks for the chat and sorry this is so late in getting back to you but I have been away for three weeks.

Not a clue about season two. Here's hoping as I have had a great time this year but you never know. I hope we don't have to wait long.

Tigh had to make a very tough decision to depressurise some compartments of the Galactica to smother the fire on board. The result was a significant loss of life of Chief Tyrol's crew.
Adama backed Tigh's decision and indicated it was the right one.
In your view do think Tyrol would come to that realization after time has passed and maybe give a grudging respect for Tigh, or would this be an ongoing issue with Tyrol that will fester?
Spook
Aug 4 2004, 07:21 AM
This might be a silly question, but I'm going to ask it anyway...
I'm curious about the audition process. Do you usually know what the character you're auditioning for is like? Or do you just get a bit of a script and are left to make your own mind up accordingly? I suppose I'm really asking whether it's made clear how the casting people want you to play a role during the audition, and whether you get much preparation time?
Chief Tyrol
Aug 13 2004, 04:09 AM
Colonel. Good question. I think that Tyrol views Tigh as weak and influenced by his drinking and makes decisions that are made while under the influence. That is what clouds this decision and makes it more interesting to play and watch. It may have been the right decision but Tyrol feels it should have been made by someone less "affected". Had it been made by Adama I don't think Tyrol would have objected quite as strenuously. I think for this reason he will never quite forgive Tigh.
Spook. Not a silly question at all. Sometimes you have access to the entire script but often it is just the scene that you are auditioning. You get with the 'sides' something that is called a breakdown which is a description of the character and story. I read that, read the scene and I just go with my instincts. I read it out loud the first time to myself and it just comes out how it does. It usually does not deviate too far from that first read. Other actors do completely different things when preparing a scene. You have to realize that the casting people are bringing you in to see what you will do with the role. They like the idea of you and your style in this part so just be yourself and do what you do. That is what they want to see. It sounds simple and in fact is generally is. Many actors over think the audition and what they are going to do in it, but in life we don't usually think about how a conversation is going or whether or not you picked up the pen when you were supposed to so why do that in an audition? Acting is living truthfully in imagined circumstances.
Be real baby!!

Okay, I better stop for now. I could go on for a long time and let the questions get real silly.

Hiya
Thanks for showing up at the Thistle last weekend. It was a blast, eh? You were a fine guest and I look forward to seeing you again sometime. We spoke briefly in the autos about my family being in Armstrong. You may or may not remember. You've had a sleep since then

Hopefully a bit longer than two hours this time!
I was wondering what your goalie nickname is. I think 'Target' would be a bit obvious

but 'Mad Dog Douglas' did spring to mind. Or maybe they go with the even more obvious, 'Dougie'?
Spill, dude. And congrats on season two. May the interesting roles always be there for ya and may next season a) actually happen and B) bring some silverware to GM Place.

Hi Aaron,
Didn't get to meet you at the con, but had very good reports of how you look like Owen Nolan.
My question is....if it can be arranged (which is a relatively easy thing for me to do) how do you fancy playing a couple games of hockey in the UK with a few ex-NHL-ers (and depending on the lockout situation/season, some current) when you're next over here? You'd have to come to Cardiff and bring your skates & kit, but if you're up for it...
And have a look at www.thecardiffdevils.com while you're at it - they're the guys you'd train with, and of course...there's always the girls (my) team too!
Nice to meet a fellow hockey nut.

[b] Okay, please educate the fan of hockey blood and gore. I love to watch hockey because of the body checks and slams into the glass but I could not tell you any of the rules.
1. What is icing?
2. How high off the ice must your stick be before the refs call you for high sticking<if that is the right term>?
3. What is the function of neutral ice?
4. What is the difference between a major and a minor in hockey? Does it have to do with amount of damage done to one's body?
5. Are you ever at anytime afraid of injuries like the college student, playing I believe for Boston College got? He broke his neck when he was slammed into a wall. He is paralyzed, of course, but does the thought of injuries enter your mind?
Now onto football.
Why do you like the raiders so much? I happen, when I do watch a game, to watch Seattle Seahawks.
What I like most of all, is baseball. I love the cardials but that is only because of my family's connection to players. I had great uncles that played for the cardinals when they were known as the browns.
Anyways, what about sports, especially hockey, that draws you in?

In case Aaron is busy working...
1. What is icing? **
Icing is when the puck crosses two lines without being touched. I think...
2. How high off the ice must your stick be before the refs call you for high sticking<if that is the right term>? **
Shoulder height IIRC
3. What is the function of neutral ice? **
<shrugs> To create a buffer between the teams I guess so that they can make a play.
4. What is the difference between a major and a minor in hockey? Does it have to do with amount of damage done to one's body? **
I think a major is called if there's blood, or someone has been knocked out. Yeesh, I watch the game all the time, you think I'd know...
5. Are you ever at anytime afraid of injuries like the college student, playing I believe for Boston College got? He broke his neck when he was slammed into a wall. He is paralyzed, of course, but does the thought of injuries enter your mind? **
Can't answer that one for him <g> but the one thing that the team does, especially the defenseman, is look after their goalie. And wouldn't we all love to?
Now onto football.
Why do you like the raiders so much? I happen, when I do watch a game, to watch Seattle Seahawks. **
Good gods. He likes the Raiders as well? Is there *nothing* wrong with this man???

[b]Let me see if I grasp the concept of minors and majors in hockey... If a player gets slammed into the glass and breaks his arm, that is a major but if he is dazed its a minor? I am not sure I will ever understand the rules.
[b]Here is another question for Aaron. As I understand it, you are the biggest fan of Star Wars. Is there a character that you like more then the others?

Cap... Icing is where the puck is shot down the ice from your side of the red line and crosses the end line without being touched by an oposing player and if an oposing player does not have a legitimate chance to play the puck.
2. shoulder height is right. If you hit the puck or a player above the shoulder it is high sticking. If it is a deflected shot on net teh cross bar of the net is the high sticking point.

Not the biggest star wars fan but A big one. Sam Witwer is the biggest fan I have met.

I cant speak for anyone else but I consider it an honor that you come here at all.
Are you ever going to post any pictures of you wearing your hockey gear to your site? Doesnt your contract have a clause restricting you from doing things that may get you hurt or killed?
I was wondering if the writers find a way to get Helo back to the fleet, what do you think would be Tyrol's reaction? I am assuming they both know Boomer is a cylon.
I've done commercials locally so I have a slight clue about all the free time there is on set but I am curious. Besides learning lines and pranking castmates, what do you do to pass the time? I heard that you had your trailer wired so you wouldnt miss any hockey games or football games. Is this true?
How is the writing going? Read somewhere that you were writing a script or something like that?
I think it would be neat to have a charity hockey game where it is you and a team of your choosing against like the Avalanche.
I am starting to feel like I have you in a police interogation room with your hands tied behind your back and the light focused in your face asking you all of these questions.
I think I will call it quits here. I am sure I will come up with more to ask you later. Dont let anyone chase you off Aaron.

I'm Lexa, a new poster and former lurker. I did an intro in the Fans thread, but it was this thread that compelled me to join in the discussion. I'm an Aries so I'm not always able to bite my tongue (however I did gnaw on it a bit to keep this from becoming a rant).
Most people, here and in general, are "nice"; we want to be polite and friendly. But some people naturally live in a different state of being, while even others are passing through some kind of craptastic phase. Regardless, everybody is responsible for their own actions (and the consequences).
Personally, I like your attitude here, Aaron. You're right in that you don't have to do this. In fact, anybody in fandom knows that you're a rare bird because we usually have to... (I must really have a filthy mind) have to beg for interaction with the people making our shows. But you don't have to take (expletive deleted by self) from anybody here; thank the Lords of Kobol that you know that already. It seems most people in the public eye kind of ignore situations such as these, so you're actually the first person I've seen come right out and say something like "you are being rude, stop it". But that's all my not-rant.
Now back to the fun with more Q & A. Everybody's wonderful Barbara Walters is... wonderful, but very busy. You may have to wait for her to get to you so I figured I'd ask in her stead:
1. If you were a tree, what kind would you be? (I'm kidding, I'm kidding; unless you really want to answer.)
2. Where (or from whom) have you learned the lessons that have been most helpful in your life and what were they?
3. What does Chief Tyrol think about the Lords? Disbelieving, apathetic, devoted, other?

I can see it now. All those that read on this board are thinking, "oh no! Not her again.", but here I go again.
1. You have done appearances on both Battlestar and Stargate sg-1. What are some differences and similarities between the two shows?
2. What is the worst injury that you ever got playing hockey? Do you participate in any other sports besides hockey? What is it called when a player scores three goals in a row?
3. Regarding the character of the chief, if he was to be reunited with family, who would it be and why?
4. The plumbing is leaking. What do you do; try to fix it yourself or call a plumber?(just kidding. Letting my smart *** self come out a bit.)
5. Who has been the most influential person in your life on the whole and with your acting?
6. What kind of show do you want to do after BSG? I heard that you wanted to do a miltary show.
7. Heard any good BSG jokes?
8. Do you have a favored charity? If so what is it?
Its a good thing you dont have to live and drive in Idaho with one of your pet peeves being bad drivers.
As for the pranks, we want details as soon as possible. I am dying to know how you get EJO back for the onion, garlic and tuna sandwhich.

Reflections
author unknown
If you walk as a friend
you will find a friend,
Whereever you choose to fare,
If you go with mirth
to a far strange land
You will find that mirth is there,
For the strangest part
of this queer old world
Is that like will join with like;
And who walks with love
for his fellow man,
An answering love will strike.
If you walk with honor,
then honest men
Will meet you along the way,
But if your false
you will find men false
Whereever you chance to stray.
For good breeds good
and bad breeds bad,
We are met by the traits we show,
Love will find a friend
at the stranger's door,
Where hate will find a foe.
For each of us builds
the world he knows,
Which only himself can spoil,
And an hour of hate
or an hour of shame
Can ruin a life of toil,
And though to the utmost
ends of the Earth
Your duty may bid you fare,
If you go with truth
and a friendly heart,
You will find friends waiting there.

When You Get to Know a Fellow
Author: Edgar A. Guest
When you get to know a fellow,
know his joys and his cares,
When you've come to understand him
and the burdens that he bears,
When you've learned the fight he's making
and the troubles in his way,
Then you find that he is different
then you thought him yesterday.
You find his faultsare trivial,
and there's not so much to blame
In the brother that you jeered at
when you only knew his name.
You are quick to see the blemish
in the distant neighbor's style,
You can point to all his errors
and may sneer at him the while.
And your prejudices fatten
and your hates more violent grow
As you talk about the failures
of the man you know,
But when drawn closer,
and your hands and shoulders touch,
You find the traits you hated
really dont amount to much.
When you get to know a fellow,
know his every mood and whim,
You begin to find the texture
of the spledid side of him;
You begin to understand him,
and you cease to scoff and sneer,
For with understanding always
prejudices disappear.
You begin to find his virtues
and his faults you cease to tell,
For you seldom hate a fellow
when you know him very well.
When next you start in sneering
and your phrases turn to blame,
Know more, before you censure,
of his business and his name.
For it is likely that acquaintance
would your prejudice dispel,
And you really come to like him
if you knew him very well.
When you get to know a fellow
and you understand his ways,
Then his faults won't really matter,
for you'll find a lot to praise.
As the poem implies, we should take time to get to know what Aaron is all about. Aaron is not just Chief Tyrol. His mind, body and spirit are formed from many things coming together.
By reading the posts, interviews and the like of his castmates, I can already tell why I like Aaron and it really has nothing to do with the fact he is an actor in my favorite scifi show. I like Aaron because of his tender heart, funny sense of humor and willingness to open up and risk getting insults hurled at him. Not every star in the world is willing to do that.
As I have told you in private messages Aaron, you are a valued human being for the things you do besides the acting because you bring a bit of yourself to each role you play.
As been said before, no need for name calling. Remember we are all different and in coming together we show that those differences can be put aside.
Thanks for taking the time to read my posts.

PS I wasnt going to make comment on the comments made by N~still but I have 2 poems that sum up my feelings toward Aaron and everyone who post to this board. I thought I would share them with you all.
Again ,you don't know what is going on so, in essence you are fighting a battle without knowing your opponent, their weapondry, their strengths, their weaknesses. In essenceyou are a drone to this man, just as our troops are a drone to that idiot Bush. I admire the troops' courage and their willingness to lay down their lives, but I yet mourn the loss of good men due to bad leaders. When you are gone ,you can't come back the same way and everything changes.
I thank you both, Capt and lizzi for pointing out how off-center i was, and AAron too. I went out in the real world and met a very nice gentlemeen named Conor who looks kinda like James Taylor (you know the singer) and we will see where it goes; he's a very quiet man, very tall, marvelous! If I hadn't been ousted by you I might have stayed by the 'puter coming up with thousands of nasty replies which again is not me; i use nastiness to push things along, it's a tool that one can use on the 'net exclusively 'cause in person it would never work for me

.
So thank you all. sorry you got bent out of shape, but you did get to talk more and defend Aaron well and put some nice poems up. The point counterpoint, good cop/bad cop thang works at times!
Have exceptional lives!

N~still your in need of professional help.
I read all of your posts and CF, you have come off as a spoiled brat. Name calling never works.
As for being Aarons drone, no way! If I dont like something he says, I will disagree. The only diffference between you and me is that I dont resort to temper tantrums

Sweetie it gives YOU something to refute, and something to defend. It serves it's purpose. That' s all it's meant to be. Here's a hypothetical? Who needs more help, someone who defends a person they haven't meant against a perceived threat and who "fans themselves" when she thinks of Aaron, or someone that gets under your skin because they do not going that route? Who is in fantasy-land more, hmmm?
The spolied brat routine, baby, it's all an act 'cause I can. Reality is much different, but go on flame to the hilt. Who comes off as a troll more now, you or me.? Why can't you let it rest? It's obviously, how did you put it, infantile, beneath you, why take the bait?
I'm sure he appreciates the loyalty of your words. Is that their purpose? I hope it becomes what you wish it to be, a strong bond between you and Aaron that lasts many years or as long as he has a BB here and may be beyond. That would be a lovely outcome for this.
Again, I reiterate have a glorious life and why don't you follow him over to the ragnarstation bb too. He tends to post there more often than any of them now, it's a lovely and colorful BB.

Hey all
I was out of town for a week and then came home to shoot 16 hour days all last week so I am a little fried and tired.
Absence makes the heart go stronger....or some such sh#$t
Anyway, I appreciate that some of you can be patient and realize that if I am gone for a few weeks it is because I am busy or out of town and that I will return. So thank you for that.
As for the others who freak and call names when I don't answer your question in 45 minutes please realize that I do not have a computer strapped to my ass 24/7 and I am not ignoring or being rude.
N-still. After responding to you for a couple of years I am tired of doing so. This is the last thing I will say to you and I encourage others to do the same. I don't know why you feel you must take on the role of devils advocate. This is a 'Q and A' for me. Not a forum to question the motivations of people on the board. If you want to rag me or people for coming here then start another thread and talk all you want about the virtues or lack thereof of me, my answers, questions and the people who ask them. I will come to that board and read what you have to say and if it is worth a response I will give one. We are not saving lives here. This is not a war zone. We are not delivering babies. We are doing something fun and light and a little silly. Take your nose off the screen and watch the whole show. Or change the channel. If you have something to ask me or a comment on BSG or any other show I have been in feel free to ask but don't come here and drop your three page diatribes on people who really don't deserve it. I really hope Mr. Tall dark and handsome is great to you and you find happiness. Because you don't display a lot of it here.
Favorite golfer? Callum Keith Renne. Pro? John Daly
Lexa how are ya?
1. Douglas Fir tree of course
2. From my dad and my ex-wife. Life is really quite beautiful and should be fun. Don't take things too seriously because they are happening for a reason and that the universe is unfolding as it should. There will be many difficut times and that we should glean positives from the experiences. One who does not learn from the past will repeat it. The body is the garage where my soul is parked for a short time. We are not our bodies but something much more incredible and beautiful. Look for that beauty and know that when the soul has learned what was here to learn that it will leave the body and go on to other unimagined incredible things. There is life after life. It is not something to fear but something to look forward to. My wife died last November 1st and it was the most awful and incredible experience of my life. It was heart stomping and beautiful, depressing and awe inspiring. She is the most amazing person I have known and will always be that to me. I look forward to seeing her again and when I do there will be no saddness, no flames on the internet, no auditions, no bills, no war, and no hockey (damnit!). Just beauty, warmth and light. It is a wonderful thing. It is a wonderful place that we go to. Whatever you believe, whatever you call it, it is another rung up the ladder to perfection.
3. it is a nice thought and notion but I he doesn't really buy into the whole religious aspect of it all. There is something there but he is not quite sure what it is.
hey capt
1. they are both scifi shows. that is really about it. both fun to do although I get a lot more to do on BSG. Stargate was several years ago and I was a different actor then.
2. a hatrick. I golf. Pulled my groin and blew up my knee.
3. you know what....I have no idea. I think the Chiefs family is all dead.
4. fix it myself
5. with my acting?.... John Candy. Never met him but the stories about his character are really amazing to me. And I think he is one of the most underrated actors of our time.
6. a really good sit com or a great war movie. something like thin red line.
7. nope
8. Cancer research. Childrens hospitals. Canuck Place.

N~still, speaking totally for myself, I was mad for the things you said in private but I have chosen to drop it. It is taking away the fun of picking on Aaron and his flat behind.
<or does the overalls cover it? hmmm>
Okay sherryjo, get your imagination under control.

To be honest, you should be angry. To quote Starbuck from Kobols' Last Gleaming; I'm a screw-up. I'll admit it. I have nothing to offer. There are so many lovely people, and i am not. So many lovely faces and features, such lovely hearts, and i realize that i was jealous because i cann't be one of those, because I'm a screw-up. That is what's talking on these Boards as well. i can't be lovely like you Stadia, or any of those loved here and elsewhere.
I wish i could change a lot of things in my life, but i can't go back now. If nothing else, know that what I have said was wrong, you have a wondrous page and lovely fans. Fortune smiles on you.
It is best to just say good-bye now. Again, I am more sorry than you know, please continue to care for each other and i will do my best to find what is left of me that has goodness
Peace....
