------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How would YOU like to meet the cast of The L Word?

Starfury Conventions are proud to present a world exclusive. The L Event will bring Laurel Holloman (Tina Kennard), Rachel Shelley (Helena Peabody) and Lauren Lee Smith (Lara Perkins) to London to spend a weekend with their fans on 25th, 26th and 27th November 2005.

You too could be a part of this fantastic experience, by booking tickets to Starfury: The L Event! For only £70 for the entire weekend, or £35 for one day, you will get this amazing opportunity to mingle with the stars of your favourite show.

This three day convention will feature Q&A sessions with the stars, autograph sessions, photo sessions, competitions, parties, and much more!

On November 25th you will register at the event and have the opportunity to purchase photograph tickets with the cast member of your choice.

The evening will host an Opening Ceremony with the guests, and a celebrity Meet & Greet reception for the first 200 full weekend registrations! On Saturday and Sunday enjoy a day with the cast of The L Word where the mornings bring you the photo sessions, the afternoon brings you Q&A sessions, and the evening brings you autograph sessions. You'll also be given a full colour souvenir convention programme free of charge!

Your ticket entitles you to one free autograph from every guest in attendance (no matter how many there are) on a personal item of your choice, as long as it's official. This means items such as DVDs are ok, but you cannot print a photo out from the internet and get it signed as that's unofficial. You can also buy extra autographs at £10 each, and these will be on a 10x8 photograph of the actor which will be provided for you (you can pick from those available at the event.) You do not have to purchase extra autographs if you don't want to. You are entitled to one FREE autograph per actor.

Your ticket gains you entrance to Q&A sessions with the actors, where you will be given the opportunity to ask them questions, direct from you to them (there is no go-between.) You will be given a microphone to ask your question, and LIVE ON STAGE in front of you your question will be answered. All we ask is that you don't ask any inappropriate questions.

Your tickets also entitles you to entrance to the Opening Ceremony at the start of the weekend, where all the actors are introduced live on stage (including any 'surprises' that we sometimes get), an auction, a raffle, and a Closing Ceremony, where the actors give speeches about their weekend at a table in the same room as you'll be sat to watch it.

You will also get FREE entrance to the Saturday night party which runs from around 9pm to 3am. Usually the actors will come and party too, though this is not guaranteed.

Your ticket entitles you to purchase a photo session with the actors of your choice. You do not need to purchase one of these if you don't want to, but they are only available to those holding tickets to the event, and are great value for money. It will be the only opportunity you have to have your photo taken with an actor over the weekend. It costs £10 per actor, and you will be called to have your photo taken with them by a professional photographer. This photo will be developed for you, and returned more often than not (though it isn't guaranteed) autographed by the actor.

The first 200 people who book a full weekend registration (at £70) will be invited to an exclusive Meet & Greet on the Friday night, where all the guests will mingle with the attendees. Usually, everyone will be sitting at tables chatting and the guests will come up to each table, one at a time, to chat for 10 minutes or so. It's an amazing chance to get some one-on-one time with the actors in a relaxed environment, and a lot of fun!

Meet & Greet tickets are selling FAST, so to guarantee yourself a place, please book soon.

The more people who book tickets to this event, the more guests from the show will be confirmed to appear! Please note that guests appear subject to acting work commitments.

The event will be taking place at the Thistle Hotel, in Heathrow, London.

All this for only £70! What more could you ask for?

To book, call +44 (0) 7930319119 Monday to Friday, between the hours of 10am and 6pm. Please make sure you have your credit card at hand, along with your name and billing address.

To book online, visit www.starfury.co.uk

EVENT UPDATE

Those who haven't yet booked to join us at Starfury: The L Event in November can now do so with the ease of online booking. For the first time in Starfury history, you will not need to phone to book your tickets!

Also, for those of you who do not wish to pay by credit card, there are postal booking forms now up on the website, whereby you can pay by cheque or postal order.

Please visit www.starfury.co.uk and click on 'The L Event' to do so.

Not only that, but you are now able to book your accomodation.

The convention will be taking place at the Thistle Hotel, Heathrow. Rooms are available for the attendees at a rate of £59.50 B&B per room per night for a single room and £77 B&B per room per night for a twin or a double room. Prices for a triple room can be confirmed upon phoning.

To book a room you will need to call The Thistle Hotel directly on 0208 759 2400 and ask to speak to in-house reservations, quoting Starfury Conventions to receive your discounted rate.

Do not book online, or through any other means. You will need to book over the phone to receive this discounted rate, which is the lowest avaliable including Bed & Breakfast.

ARE YOU GOING TO STARFURY: THE L EVENT?

Whether you're going on your own or with friends, you've got a perfect opportunity to get to know other fans by stewarding.

A convention takes a great deal of hard work and manpower to organise both before the event and during, and it's the 'during' part that needs volunteers to help with. In order for the event to run smoothly it needs YOU, the ticket holder, to volunteer to steward. Whether you’ll be joining us for the entire weekend, or even just one day, we’d love to have you with us.

Stewards are essential. Whether you have stewarded before or have never been to an event in your life, it doesn't matter. The only qualification is that you are willing to contribute a couple of hours a day to helping out. It's not difficult, and is, in fact, the highlight of most people's weekends. It's a lot of fun, it brings you closer to the other attendees, and over the years some brilliant friendships have been formed through stewarding.

You're not being asked you to help out for nothing. In addition to all the friends you'll make, there are some perks:

Priority seating in the main hall -
There will be seating reserved for off duty stewards and disabled attendees in the hall, which offer the best view that no other attendee can get. These will probably be the first two or three rows, and are ONLY available to off duty stewards, disabled attendees, staff and guests.

An end of convention meeting -
This will be held on the Sunday evening, probably after the closing ceremony. Where possible the guests are asked to attend, but this is not guaranteed.

A big thank you at the end of the weekend -
Usually, a unique item is given to you as a 'thank you' gift for helping out. This item will probably be signed by the guests. It's not guaranteed, but I've never known one to not be provided. These rare items are designed specifically for the event and are only available to stewards at this event – no one else in the world will have one!

And most importantly, you will receive the thanks of all those at the event for helping out.

If you are on duty during autograph or photo sessions you will be given the chance to jump the queue and get straight into the room – something most attendees only wish they could do!

Where possible duties are scheduled around things you don't want to miss. There are also stewarding roles that can cater for those with disabilities.

Once again, stewards are essential to the smooth running of the event. It's a great way to make friends. So please don't be shy about volunteering, or suggesting to your friends to volunteer.

If you haven't already booked your ticket to the event, you can do so NOW, by visiting www.starfury.co.uk

Please volunteer by emailing the head stewards Ian and Jenny at stewards_r_us@hotmail.com

QUOTE(DannyWilde)
Hi,

How do I start this ?

I'm a straight male who has watched the LWord from the very first programme and have loved every minute of it. I've lived all the characters ups and downs and tribulations along the way and think it is some of the best drama/comedy that I have ever seen. Some of the script writing and some of the lines in it are just excellent.

I really want to go to the convention - I think it is a fab idea and it would be great to 'meet and greet' some of the cast (shame Kate's not there though) and to chat with some other fans about it all. I have a couple of straight, married girlfriends who I constantly discuss the progrmame and characters with but unfortunately neither of them can make it. So, I'm thinking of going on my own but I'm a little worried about the summised \"typically male\" reasons as to why a straight male would enjoy a programme based on a set of lesbians and their relationships and why he would want to go to the convention.

Help ! Tell me I'm being silly !

DW

Hi DannyWilde, it's good to see another straight guy in the forums!

I'm definitely in the same boat, I asked basically the same question in the old thread, I think as straight guys we're definitely going to be in the minority, but I think it will be really cool none the less and based on the reactions of people on the boards I don't think we're going to be chased out of the place by an angry mob.
Shane_kate_fan
Im getting really excited about this now and I know its ages away really I just cannot wait!!! I have a badge with Shane on with my forum name so you will know its me if you want to come and say hi, I love meeting new people though Im quite shy! I am really hoping Kate will be there because then there will be 2 of my favourite actresses from the show there fingers and toes are crossed! Bxxx
tainted_chick
has the meet and greet sold out?
joleslie
We can't find that out at the moment, because Sean's on holiday.

The last I heard it was not sold out, but there is every chance that could have changed whilst he's been away. At the moment, though, as far as anyone's aware, there are still tickets left.

If you're thinking of booking, do it as soon as you can, because the sooner you book the more chance you'll get in the Meet & Greet. However, don't worry if you don't get in, as there's plenty of other great things to go to over the weekend. The Meet & Greet is just a 'thank you' to the people who had enough faith to book early.

Hi there,
I booked my room a few weeks ago and I didn't think the guy was that helpful either. I didn't really need to give many details and I don't even recall using my card! Isn't that weird. I was pretty worried that the booking hadn't been made because there was no confirmation nothing.
Seems sort of weird but I think I'll email them and ask for an email confirmation that my room is actually booked.
Hope you get your problem sorted out. smile.gif

Hi karmagirls, i also sent them an email but i also recieved another non usefull one , just seems that hotel arent very co-operative.
Good luck tho i hope your bookin was taken, i managed to book now by talking to someone else smile.gif
Shane_kate_fan
Its not just you, I have been to a few cons there in the past and they are all really rude! Unfortunately it just goes with that place! Great for conventions though!! Bxxx
joleslie
The problem with the Thistle is that most of the staff are foreign. And whilst that's not necessarily a bad thing, when the foreign staff also can't speak very good English it becomes a bit of a problem sometimes.

Personally, I've never had any trouble with the Thistle - booking over the phone, or when I'm there - but I know some people have. I guess it's all just down to luck, and who you get to deal with.

It's a great hotel for convention facilities, which is why most of Sean's conventions are held there (and a lot of other organisers), and the rooms are not bad either. They're your bog standard bedroom, occasionally with broken air conditioning (I've only had that once myself, but every other time it's worked fine.)

I love the Thistle. It's like a second home to me because I go there so much and always have a great time.

except for the family rooms all the single / double / twin rooms are pretty much identical (even the double are just 2 beds pushed together with one big mattress and the twins are pushed apart with smaller mattresses. When you book a single it seems to be random if you get 1 big bed or 2 small ones so I wouldnt worry

When will we know if we have listed as a steward confused.gif Ive had two emails so far but dont know for definite yet confused.gif
joleslie
Do you mean you've sent two emails, or have received two?

If you've sent two, then don't send any more unless you're replying to them. Ian and Jenny have two events to organise the stewards for before The L Event, so they won't email you until nearer the time.

You'll know you've been accepted to steward when you get an email back - however long that may take, because, as I said, they've got two events to sort out first. You will be accepted - only those under the age of 15 don't get to steward.

Good luck getting stewards hun, I used to always steward and it was great fun. Unfortunately I cant anymore because of my MS but good luck Bxxx

Do you know if i can get a triple room in this hotel its just theres 3 of us going and none of us want to be in a room on our own confused.gif And ive got a spare ticket now aswell anything i can do confused.gif with that or just phone and let him know that he can take one from the list to add another meet and greet space smile.gif
joleslie
Yes, you can get a triple, but I don't know the prices for them. Phone up the Thistle and quote Starfury - that way you'll still get the convention discount, but I don't know how much it'll be.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, so you can't get your money back for it or give it to someone else. There's not really much point in phoning Sean up and letting him know, because the people who'll be manning the door for the Meet & Greet will be only letting those with ticket numbers 1 - 200 in no matter what. He won't let an extra person in because someone else can't make it, as he's got no way of knowing that person won't show up (if you get my meaning.) So you might as well just leave the ticket thing.

Oh this is brilliant news! It means they will have more of the cast there (please bring Kate, please bring Kate) excellent news! Me and my friends are booked up for the Saturday and we just CANNOT WAIT!! Do you know if they are doing Badgers for this event Jo? I really want Laurel to sign both my box sets Bxxx
joleslie
I can't give you a definite answer on Badgers just yet until I speak to Sean about it, but I'd pretty much guarantee the answer will be yes.

Surpassing 200 ticket sales in under two months is very good news. If we get another 200 in the next three months (there's always a slow down of ticket sales after the initial surge) I'd hazard a guess as saying this won't be the last L Word convention in the UK!

EVENT UPDATE

The original plan was to only have one party on the Saturday night of the event. Now, thanks to the fans and unprecedented ticket sales, there will be a party on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

This is great news, as you've now got three times as long to party with fans of The L Word and maybe some cast members!

If you haven't yet bought your ticket, do so soon. Tickets are still available from www.starfury.co.uk. Saturday only tickets are almost SOLD OUT.

Do you know if they are doing Badgers for this event Jo?

I've just got off the phone to Sean, and he will be doing Badgers at the event.

The number of items you'll be allowed to get signed (including Badgers) depends on the number of tickets sold by the time the event comes around, but it'll be around the 4-5 mark.

For those who don't know - Badgers will be the usual £8, and allow you to get an extra personal item signed as long as it's official (such as the DVD.)

Jo
tainted_chick
i've never been to a convention before so what is a badger? The only thing i know a badger is an animal blush.gif
Shane_kate_fan
Well at Starfury cons you get one personal item signed free, a badger is a £8 and means you can get another personal item signed too. Hope that makes sense? Im so glad he is doing them again cos I want both DVDs signed!

Its brilliant they have sold so well maybe we will get some more cast over then heres hoping! Bxxx
joleslie
At the event you'll be allowed a certain number of autographs (probably 4 or 5) from each cast member. One of these autographs will be free, and the others you'll have to pay for.

For your free autograph you may have anything official signed (ie a DVD, or the Angel magazine for Laurel etc), however you are not allowed to print a photo from the internet and get it signed as this is unofficial. Official items are licensed merchandise, so it's easy to tell what is and what isn't. You are not allowed to get magazines such as FHM and Maxim signed. You are allowed to get the colour convention booklet signed - this will be given to you for free when you get to the event.

For your remaining 3 or 4 items, please note you do not have to purchase extra autographs if you don't want to. These items can be a combination of official 10x8 photographs of each cast member (which will be on sale at the event for £10 each) or personal items. The personal items, again, must be official merchandise, and to get these signed you must purchase a Badger for £8.

When you go through the autograph session you will be allowed your one free personal item signed. The guest PA's know what 10x8s are on sale at the event, so they will also be signed by the guest. If you have purchased a Badger you must show that to the PA before they'll allow the guest to sign your extra personal item. The Badger is simply a way of showing you've paid for your extra personal item, and aren't trying to get an autograph you haven't paid for.

ok, i'll see what i can find through my channels, i hope she'll go
joleslie
Guests only cancel when they have filming commitments or personal commitments (such as bereavement or illness.) Laurel cancelled her appearance at Quor'toth earlier in the year as it was smack bang in the middle of filming The L Word and she couldn't secure time off. However, this event is specifically designed to be outwith filming of The L Word, so no cast members will cancel due to this. It's also worth noting that upon signing to appear at Quor'toth Laurel did not know The L Word would be renewed for a third season, and therefore did not know she'd be filming.

There is, of course, no guarantee they won't be cast in another role (say in a movie) which means they'll have to cancel. This, I believe, is why both Kate and Mia can't attend, however they knew they would not be able to go and therefore declined to attend. If Laurel, Rachel or Lauren were not expecting to be available they would not have signed on to appear at the event.

Rest assured all of the L ladies are very much looking forward to coming over and partying with their fans.

it's good to know, another thing though that L word is filming till december, not with all the ladies but some, and i think partly is accomodate JB's baby birth, so Laurel might be filming in november and december still, but lets hope everything will work
joleslie
I'm sure The L Word is filming until the end of September. That's why the event's in November - Sean asked the ladies when filming finishes, and arranged the con for about two months after that to give them time to rest.
