Well since Majandra has kindly shared her vacation stories with us like when she went to London and how Nantucket is one of her favorite vacation spots I thought it would be nice to have a thread for us to share vacations stories and helpful tips.

I mean if you're going to France then who better to give you some friendly tips than our French Pixies grin.gif.

Maybe you would like to suggest a vacation spot that you've been to that you think others would like.

What about our Pixies who are going away from home for the first time to go to college, maybe the school you are going to is close to home for another Pixie and they might know some great places for you to see while you're not studying.

I know I'll probable be looking for suggestions next year since I'm planning a vacation to German and Austria.

Also I would love to hear places people have gone to that they loved and why they loved it. I know I'm always on the lookout for a great vacation idea grin.gif.

I feel so bad, one of my all time favorite cities is just devasted by Hurricane Katrina. The more you hear about New Orleans the worst it is. Such a beautiful city but unfortunately I don't know what they will be able to salvage.

Actually Alabama and Louisiana both got hit with this one. Just so sad, I mean the floating casinos in Alabama actually came loose and one was carried so high that it landed onto of a motel and crushed the motel. Whole bridges are destroyed completely.

They were showing on the news tonight that people in New Orleans are actually sleeping on the expressways where there are overpasses to protect them.

One of the things I loved about New Orleans were the people. Truly the most friendly people you could ever meet and so colorful. They all just have the best stories to tell and I swear to god they all love to cook. Everywhere you go they tell you how to cook something and every recipe starts with the 'holy trinity'...onion, celery and green peppers.

New Orleans is really one of the few places I tell people they have to go to. The city is magical.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people in Louisiana and Alabama.

New Orleans was one of the places in the US that I really wanted to visit (if I can ever affort it). I'm not really sure why but I just liked the sound of it and I love places with interesting histories. Hopefully, it will be returned to some kind of normalcy soon.

I loved Far North Queensland. Hubby & I travelled to Townsville to stay with friends & we spend a day on Magnetic Island which was beautiful, a day snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef (my goggles kept getting filled with water) and then we spent five days driving up to Cape Tribulation and back. Just stopping here and there. It was brilliant. Lots of gorgeous waterfalls in the rainforest & just really calm and peaceful. I'd really recommend it for people coming to Australia. There's a really different feel about the place to the major cities.

I would also love to visit New Orleans!! It's such a sad shame what happend there... sad.gif

I loved Florence (Italy) and Thessaloniki (Greece) Two amazing places.. and don't worry.. everyone speaks English there.. wink.gif

I would love to go to Australia some day. Next year we're going to German, Austria and I think we're going to try and go to Switzerland too. I think the year after that a bunch of us are planning to go to Hawaii and cruise around the islands. So those are my big trips planned for the next two years. I usually plan one big trip and then a few long weekends.

Some of my favorite places to visit is Nigra Falls, the Canadian side is truly breathtaking. Also one of my favorite places in Canada is Quebec, very nice. I think so far my favorite city in Europe that I've been to so far is Edinburgh. I just loved that city, I can't wait to go back.

In the US, I would have said to go to New Orleans but honestly there is noway of know when people will be able to visit the city. But to plug my own town, Boston is a great place to visit. There is so much history here to see. Plus you can do all sorts of side trips like going to Cape Cod or Martha Vineyard and Nantucket.

One day all of us fans over this side of the world will come and see you Val...only if you bake us cookies.

Oh wow, this board is bringing back so many memories. I loved all of Tuscany. The men are just soooo gorgeous. And the scenery is pretty great as well. My girlfriend and I were then in July and the sunflowers were out everywhere we went.

And Edinburgh, we were lucky enough to be there during the Festival & saw the Edinburgh Tattoo in front of the castle. It was fantastic. Edinburgh is so beautiful that even travelling with my best friend & her boyfriend couldn't detract from it.

Val, one day when my kids are much much older (and therefore more appreciative of the sacrifices I'll have to make to get them there) I'd love to drive up the East Coast of America starting in Florida and going into Canada. I think it would just be amazing.

And totally off topic there is a mouse going crazy in my kitchen. It keeps running past me as I sit here typing. I've seen it about 4 times ... maybe there's more than one. Last time my husband set the traps he was only wearing his jocks & he nearly trapped himself. lol.gif I know that I shouldn't laugh but his expression was priceless.

Bye

Florence was amazing.. very romantic! If you love art and old architecture then you'll love all of Italy. hehe.. I was in awe of it's beauty. Traveling up to the country side of Tuscany was also amazing! I want a little Villa there one day!!!!

In Latzio (Italy) on the along the coast, I went to Sperlonga and Gaeta. These two places had the most beautiful beaches!!!! (I am going to try and post some pics). In Gaeta there is this really amazingly beautiful restaurant on the beach.

I haven't travelled at all (never left my state, and never been on a plane). However, I have a plan for a round-the-world trip encompassing most of my pals in different countries and the obligatory family visits.

Has anyone here been to Belgium or Spain (Pontevedra in particular)? I will most likely get a local's tour of those places, but I would love some tips on places/things that should or should not be missed!

Jak.
Vallygirl
Sorry Jak I've never been Belgium or Spain. I think we have a few pixies over here who are from Spain though, hopefully they will see your post and can help.

Bumping this thread since it's summer time and people are traveling. So anyone have some big vacation plans or are going to be starting at a new school?

I just got back from Hawaii last week and it was amazing. Just breathtaking. Everyone should try and go there at least once.

I currently dont have any plans for a vacation, but I'm hoping to change that, once Ive got some money together smile.gif

I would love to go to New Zealand too someday. Everyone I know who has been loves it. I've never thought about Amsterdam before. I've heard rumors about what it's like in some areas but if you don't go to those areas I would think that it is beautiful.

My dad went to New Zealand for a vacation and had one extra ticket and didn't even ask if I wanted to go..! what injustice! mad.gif but i *too* heard it was breathtaking and food was mouth watering.

Now, first i would like to recommend my own beautiful country.. Finland. Especially in the wintertime. Lapland is the most beautiful in the winter with its three foot deep snow piles and raindeers and all. Awesome place for down hill skiing! Helsinki, our capital, is at its best in the summertime. Lots of green and nice people plus a lot of shops. (what a commercial! grin.gif)

And then Barcelona, Spain. Beautiful architecture (Sagra da Familia, all the Gaudis house's etc).
The countryside of France. There's this little village called Saumur about four hours outside of Paris and the families there lived in 18th and 19th century houses! Also there were lots of mansions etc.
Paris is of course a place to visit once, but in my opinnion it's a little overrated.

The I'd like to ask for places to go whilst in Egypt. Some not-so-well-known places.

Did anyone go on a fun summer vacation? Any big trips planned? Moving off to college? We'd love to hear about it. smile.gif
