I was wondering if i should buy the Slim PS2. I have the older one (the big one). I could trade my old one in get some cash and use that cash to buy my new PS2. I'm not usre what to do.

If you're looking to get some of the room back that the original PS2 takes up then yeah, I'd get the slim one but why not just wait for the PS3? Save your bucks!
