Synopsis
Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal in this critically acclaimed, brilliantly unconventional war story from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows Swoff (Gyllenhaal) from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, where he sports a sniper rifle through Middle East deserts that provide no cover from the heat or Iraqi soldiers. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully grasp.

The movie is out on DVD tomorrow. Please check it out as it is a very good film that underperformed in theaters. Jake is great in it and Peter Sarsgaard gives an incredible performance (as he's known to do). I know I'm planning on buying it. smile.gif

I'm planning on buying it, it's a good film but don't ever go at 10 am to watch this feeling groggy after 3 hours of sleep lol.gif I did and think I almost missed some things in the plot lol.gif

Jake pulls off an excellent performance, all of the cast does too, really.

I have to say my favorite scene is the Christmas celebration... for obvious reasons!

And the Cinematography was... unbelievable! I can't stress that enough... some of the shots were spectacular, at times even moving eek.gif

I have yet to see this movie, but I will be seeing it VERY soon grin.gif I know a lot about the movie already, but I have to ask- the sex scene- is it graphic at all? And if so, how bad is it? On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being nothin', 10 being soft core porn lol.gif I need to know b/c I don't want to be watching it w/ my mom, enjoying Jake's butt, Jake's muscles, Jake with a Santa hat over his cash and prizes, then WHOA!! 'Look away, honey!' tongue.gif

Well, there is like two sex scenes, one with Jake and the other a video. The one with Jake is really quick, like under a minute, you see his ass that is about it. The other you can hardly see since it's a video and it's like 2 minutes. I watched this movie with my mother she had no problem with it. It really isn't that graphic, nothing really showing. Except woman's breasts. I would say it's a 4-5. It wasn't much to me, I've seen more in other movies. Then again I don't mind with sex scenes because it's bound to happen. Jake dances around with the Santa hat is fair, nothing much is shown it's more about having a good time and funny. If you mom doesn't have a problem with sex scenes that are quick then there isn't a problem, if she does I suggest you don't watch it with her. I am 20 so I don't have a problem watching this with my mom, she doesn't have a problem with me watching it. Now if it were my younger brothers, yes. I don't get uncomfortable watching things with my mom, now my dad that is another story.

Anyways, I watched this movie last week and I really liked it. Jake was excellent, not to mention very nice to look at. tongue.gif Very interesting story, and it really gives you more insight of what really went on back then. I was also recommended the book by my sister.

I 'd write a bit more commentary but , my mind is like mush right now . :blah: I 'll write more though later . Maybe start a topic starter... like what was your favourite scene or something like that. lol.gif I dunno , like I said my mind is unfocused right now to think much of anything.

Jarhead is a documentary style movie about the military starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard and Jamie Foxx. Although it is technically seen as a “war movie” Jarhead is more about the marines themselves and the physical and mental drama they go through as brothers. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role of Anthony Swofford to perfection. Swofford is a dreamer that never actually wanted to be involved in the military but because of the environment he grew up in is forced to. Gyllenhaal is excellent in portraying Swoffford as an innocent by standard in the beginning, not wanting to participate in the war effort until he meets Staff Sgt Sykes (Foxx) who ignites a passion in Swofford for Snipers. Swofford evolves from being innocent to “a man” in the strongest sense of the word. Peter Sarsgaard performance as Troy is almost as impressive as Gyllenhaal’s performance. The bond the two characters grow amongst each other is strongly apparent in the movie from the beginning.

What I found most enlightening but also disturbing to see in this movie is our generation of boys going to war in the Middle East not really realizing what they are doing or what they are prepared for until they actually confront the Iraqis. The first part of the movie is strictly about all the training and the life of being a “jarhead”; it isn’t until the last hour of the movie do they actually make contact with the Iraqis. This movie is a very honest portrayal of what marines and others go through physically and emotionally in war. The images and stories will remain with you after the movie is finished…

Mendes to do the next 007 Movie. What do you guys think?
" No, this isn't an April Fool's prank. According to both The Times' Hero Complex blog and the Hollywood Reporter, Sam Mendes, the wonderfully cerebral and cultured filmmaker who once upon a time won an Oscar for directing "American Beauty," is in discussions to make the new James Bond film, which could go into production as early as this June. Daniel Craig would be onboard, reprising his role as Mr. 007. "
