Love in Vein just sucks. It was mostly a waste of time. nono.gif 'Max, the Transgenic Vampire Slayer'.
I'm no big fan of Boo, but at least it was funny in spots.

Anyone else?

The episodes I wished didn't exist or could have been better where Love in Vein, every episode that didn't have Alec in it, Borrowed Time, Fuhgeddaboudit and Freak Nation.

Originally I thought that Boo was the worst episode and could have been quite easily left out.

But then I changed my mind after having watched it again. Although it wasn’t the best and went over the top with all the weird stuff, it still had a lot of very funny lines and jokes in it, and for a dream of Max, it ended up being plausible, dreams can be weird like that sometimes, and betraying Joshua was something that Max probably had on her mind.

In an interview, 2 or 3 of the writers said that 'Shorties in Love' was the episode they felt was their biggest failure, because the story of it went too much away from Max and onto the supporting characters (cindy and diamond), when there wasn’t enough to those characters to hold an episode.

And after reading that, I agreed with them, so at the moment I think that ‘Shorties In Love’ was the worst episode.

To be honest, I wasn’t really bothered whatever happened to Diamond, she had only arrived out of the blue in the show for the first time in that episode, and she didn’t have anything to do with the X5s or the Eyes Only Informant net either.

So there was nothing really about her character or background that I could relate to, or that was even relevant to the series and the other main characters. It might not have been so bad if it had been a sub-plot rather than the main story of the episode. But it wasn't, so that's my least favourite.

Boo and Borrowed Time are probably my least favourite. Curse that silly Gossomer, what a bad idea.

Although overall I prefered S2, it also had the higher proportion of poor episodes.

Okay, I MUST ask...
Exactly what was wrong with Freak Nation? Given the tone the second season adopted, I thought it was great.

Agreed, the worst of season one (tho, still entirely watchable IMHO), but is it really worse than Love In Vein? I mean, really? Shortie's In Love would work as a sub-plot, but nothing could save Love In Vein!
Am I wrong ya think?

Well let me think I haven’t watched the season finale in a long time so there’s probably a hell of allot more.
  • Not enough Alec.
  • The cheesy hoverdrone flying and "who ordered a pizza"
  • The staged wrestling fight.
  • The creepy condom gloves of love handholding at the end.
  • Logan flying through the air and shooting *cringe*
  • Logan ragging on Alec for getting beat by that familiar when he would have been dead if it wasn't for Joshua.
  • Not enough Alec.
  • The whole thing with Max being the chosen one, like I didn't hate her enough they just had to spring that one on us.

skep.gif Maybe I got the wrong impression here. Are you a fan of the show?

Or do you watch it only for Jensen's sweet smile? poke.gif

Oh don't even start with that a person does not need to like the main characters in order to be a fan of a show, there where other characters on the show besides Max and Logan. Oh and I started watching the show during the first season and I kept on watching during the second season because of Alec I didn’t get interested in Jensen the actor until I finished watching the show.

Besides even if I had what does it matter.
satansnewlapdog
Yes, chrisisall, I would say that ‘Shorties in love’ is still entirely watchable, even though it’s my worst one (and 2 or 3 of the writers).

To be honest, I don’t really agree with you about Love in Vein. That episode and Borrowed Time generally seem to be unpopular amoungst quite a few fans, as well as Boo and Gill Girl.

But my view (apart from what I already said about Boo in a previous post so I won’t repeat myself), is that although they were a bit silly in some ways, they weren’t really that bad, there was quite a bit of humour in most of those episodes I mentioned.

I suppose Love in Vein would be nearer the worse end of my list of episodes than the best end. I never like any shows or films with vampires in, they are too ridiculous so I never watch Buffy or Blade, for example. But I never viewed Love in Vein as a vampire type story myself, it wasn’t about immortals or biting people in the night etc.

I have also heard quite a few fans criticise Borrowed Time, complaining about Gossamer. Personally I thought it was a fairly good one. I didn’t judge it on the special effects or the specific details of what the creature was supposed to look like, to me it was more relevant what the story was and the characters, I wouldn’t really have been bothered if the Gossamer creature had looked like a bad cartoon drawing, there was plenty of humour in it. Or they could even have done the episode without actually showing what Gossamer looked like. The idea of the story in that episode was just that it was a creature on the loose, that had been created in Manticore, regardless of what the creature looked like. Well at least that’s how I think of it.
Immortal Goddess
I hated Borrowed Time because I hated the virus storyline, they should have just cured it in that episode so we didn't have to put up with Max pouting and whining about not being able to touch Logan. Or you know as long we didn’t have to watch she could have just screwed him and moved on.
darkjak
I think that Brainiac was the crappiest and most annoying.

Fuggedaboudit would've been OK, if it wasn't so over the top cliché mafia movie ish. Like the boss saying CAPICHE? after every second sentance, and Mia having the most annoyingly squeeky voice ever...
phsyxx
Seriously........doesn't this topic just overwhelmingly encourage negative thinking!? look.gif
No? you don't agree?

Oh well, I thought that the worst episode had to be "love among the runes", that guy pretending to be an X5 was just cringe-worthy! skep.gif

Here's a link to the Episode page on Eyes Only, where you can find the names of the episodes and a little bit about them. You can also find the transcript for each episode, as well as reviews and screencaps.

Hope that helps smile.gif

mine would have to be 'I Am And I Am Camera' - I just wasn't keen on the idea of that guy with the exoskelton legs!

I didn't and still don't like, Boo. It pissed me off the first time I watched it and it pisses me off now. I don't mind, lightheartedness and I don't mind a dream squence as a means to show enlightenment in a character and I realize Halloween is a time for "tricks." I just think the episode, was bad and a waste of a spot where a better episode could have been placed.

I also, didn't like the whole storyline and episodes with the Reds in them in S1 and the episode with the Blood drinkers in S2. Again, the important things could have been said in another way and bigger more important storylines could have filled the remaining time.
slakr
I hated Shorties in Love, Love in Vein and that damn gossamer.

still watched them again though.
Wynne
I hate Boo for every reason Capricious said. I don't care that it had funny moments, it was just plain stupid. Like we've never seen the whole "it was a dream!" thing. Good grief, like they didn't already pull that in this series at the end of season 1!

Gossamer. Stupid.
darkjak
Well...
Can't really say anything bad about the first season.

But the second... WHAT A MESS:
Boo was a complete waste of time and cash.

Brainiac was completelly worthless, felt like they were trying to make the good atmospheric scifi show into a dumb comedy show.

Then theres Love in Vein, which felt completelly ridiculous.

Borrowed time allso felt stupid. It could have been a nice episode, but gossamer ruined it all. I mean, WHO CAME UP WITH THAT THING? So OK, it wouldn't be very exciting if Max and Logan would've just had a nice time together, but why a green two-legged lizard that spits paralysing goo on people?

The second season kept getting worse and worse, untill it finally picked up during the last four or something episodes. There's like eight episodes that are good in the beginning and the end of the season, and there in between its just a good for nothing mess. It's just stupid that they made som many different kinds of freaks. Some just looked weird, but if you look at the plot, it appears that there were entire platoons of most kinds of freaks. That would meen that there might have been tens of thousands of transgenics living in the tiny base of Manticore. How could Max and the others never seen them before the escape? The freaks made DA feel too much Star Trek, with unlimited ammounts of different idiotic looking creatures. If they had removed those episodes and made a continuation after Freak Nation instead, everything would've been allright.

Freaks? What freaks? I must have missed them, being so wrapped up in Logan and Max... rolleyes.gif

Seriously, I can see where you're coming from- there are times I want to go right from Designate This, to Some Assembley Required, to Freak Nation and skip the 'freak of the week' syndrome...but I can't!
There's so much good inter-personal stuff in season two- and Alec and Joshua are really GOOD characters!

But no power in the 'Verse can make me watch Love In Vein again!

Season II ; all of them with animals and a new team... all change when a new team come in (text, view angle, imagination, etc.)... to except two episods : "05 - Boo" and "21 - Freak Nation"...
X-5nhiding
I could do without Boo, and Gill Girl and yeah Borrowed Time... I also didn't really like, the kids are alright, in season 1.

I thought Season two did kinda get lost. It was like they really wasn't sure were they were going with the series. So all those episodes with the other creations came into play. But I think it worked out in the end as they show all the "Freaks" coming together. Giving the viewer an idea of exactly how big Manticore really was.

On another note, "Shorties in Love" was one of my more favarite ones, i guess crushing on OC and being rainbow.gif myself might be a motivating factor. LOL

When I first watched "Boo", I thought it was a little weird, but when you really have come to know DA and the characters (and you know that "Boo" is a dream), I think it's really great. The tone in the ep. is different from the ordinary ep's (funny/ironic perspective), but at the same time it's the surroundings and characters you know so well.

"Braniac" is the only other episode I didn't really like, when it was first broadcasted (I don't really know why - maybe I thought Brain was to "teen-like" for the show or something), so for a while I just didn't watch that ep. Then when I finally watched it again, it was like seeing something totally new, so today I really like it.
Nyk
Yeah some of the episodes I haven't liked I've put off and when I finally crack down, over a year later. It's a bit tolerable because you know what you're in for. There were some scenes I was laughing at when the previous time I was rolling my eyes.

The only episode I really don't like is Boo because it felt more like a filler and nothing that happened really stuck. If they had never played it, everything would STILL be the same because it didn't affect the plot.
And Max was still the whiny female who was down trotten because she can't touch Logan. I really hate that.
