Yep.
So since you've read this book...what did you think of it? It sounds interesting.
Does it go beyond the animal rights aspect or focus on that?
The book goes beyond animal welfare. (But the book isn't about animal
rights at all. It's about ethical consumption.) From the dust jacket:
"They expose the working conditions in Southern food-processing plants as well as in other countries. They weigh the pros and cons of buying local, the complex dynamics of sustainability, the controversy over genetically modified organisms, the ethics of obesity, and the health implications of raising children vegan.
"The Way We Eat concludes with five simple principle that consumers can use to make better food choices. Should we eat meat? If so, what kinds of meat are most humane to eat? What kinds of produce and dairy products? Wild fish, or farmed? Veal--ever? Recognizing that not all of us will become vegetarians, Singer and Mason offer powerful reasons for eating more conscientiously."
"By considering the ethics of our choices, we can act as individuals to reduce the harm that our food purchases inflict on others, and on the environment. At the same time we will be able to lead healthier lives ourselves and set a good example for our children. We hope that this book will help you reflect on your priorities and provoide you with the information you need for choices that are ethical but also practical." -- Peter Singer and Jim Mason
