Full Version: MB party in Vegas 2007!

Wouldn't it be great to have a chance to meet your fellow MB posters?

MB is planning a party for its members in Las Vegas, Nevada! This party will occur the third weekend in July, on Sunday the 22nd. We are hoping this date will allow for many of our European posters to attend (we tried to work around known school schedules).

We don't have the venue yet but need to get an idea of the number of people who can attend. Posting here is not committing you to attending, just giving us an idea of the number of people who think they could make it. This way we can work on a venue for the appropriate number of people. This will be an MB party, not a specific board party. We would love all boards to be represented, as that will be our theme. So post below if you think you can make this event! Many people helping to plan this event will be bringing children so this will be a good family event!

If you are interested in attending this party please post here. It would also help us to know if you would be needing a hotel room and for how many nights you think you might be staying. The party will be on a Sunday so those in the UK will have a day to travel after school is out. We will more than likely plan informal activities for the day before and a few days after the main party.

If you have any questions about the event or want to see any updates we have about the event you can go to the new MB Party - Las Vegas 2007 board! The board is also the place for all of you to let us know what kind of group activities you would like to see planned.

Hope to see you there!

Wonderful idea, whitey.gif I enchant to be able to go, but is very difficult, Of course I will try
Babble1
I am going to seriously consider it. My aunt likes to visit Vegas and goes there alot. She is a big gambler, although I am not. It seems like great fun.

Count me in until I say otherwise. smile.gif

What venue will the gathering take place? Is it possible to have some sort of a pre-auction to invite a (or several) 'official' MB fan forum stars to benefit a charity and offer the highest bidder the opportunity to meet/have dinner with their favorite actor? I don't know if I could keep up with the bidding, but I bet if the actor took a percentage of the final bid (for their time) and the rest went to a charity of their choice MB would get a lot more participation and generate income in the process via lotsa posts.

I am assuming more coordination and planning is in the works as opposed to ..."Here is where we will be... be there or be square" kind of thing.

Wow.. this sounds like fun. I would like to see Vegas, the City of Lights before I die. wink.gif

Vinity
Oh yeah, lol.gif lots of planning. We just need to get some idea of numbers to put stuff firmly together. It will be fun tho, I love meeting all you guys grin.gif

We're planning some events other than just a party night. Go to the Party planning board if you've got ideas.
angel_soda
yep yep im interested, love Vegas. I've been itching to go back and this is perfect! I'd probably bring my partner and my cousin...

Babble i'll be there trying to be wise with my money because i never know when to just take winnings and run I won a fair amount on my last night and didn't take any of it out of the casino! grin.gif
Sue
Dates don't suit me bawl.gif already got the family holiday booked that week rolleyes.gif Shall miss coming dreadfully as I would have been there. bawl.gif
Vinity
Sue bawl.gif I know, that's our usual date too lol.gif We'll be visiting earlier this year so I'll see you then, at least.
Pixie Queen
I am considering it, I've started saving, but knowing me and the way things come up last minute hide.gif But yes, I've sort of started saving, and I know I'm not big on gambling but I'm a travel person.
RhondaAnn
You know, hubby and I are always talking about going to Vegas, and this would be the perfect opportunity! Let me see if I can talk him into it, but I'm all for it!
Sue
Prices of flights to the US from the UK shoot up in the Summer and in the school holidays - I think the price might well be in the region of $1000. eek.gif eek.gif February is much cheaper lol.gif Hopefully some good bargains will be found. I've checked the flights for curiosity and BA are quoting $1600 [at today's exchange rate] per person for a London to Las Vegas trip. thud.gif eek.gif Prices have really rocketed over the past couple of years.
HeavyMetalQueen
I don't think I'll make it, but it's too earily to say for sure, I might be going there anyways, a lot earlier in the year.
Moondragon
Las Vegas in July.....sorry, too tooo toooo warm form this dragon, even with air conditioning. For 100 degree+ weather, I'll stay in sunny funny California. smile.gif

I'm with Moon. I'm asthmatic and extreme heat is not good for me. As much as I want to visit Vegas (prefferably when CSI is filming and they are there in June) I'd be stuck inside the hotel all day perched infront of the AC or something cool. 89ºF is extreme for my asthma.

Maybe if the part was like September or something, maybe.... but not July. Even if there's direct to Vegas flights from Winnipeg.
viking
If hey build bridge from Eurpoe before that, yo can count me in....
Terryfied of flying, but t could be so great.
Sue
I know there are a number of posters from Las Vegas and Arizona so they will correct me, but it seems to me from limited experience that Las Vegas isn't really the sort of place you go outside a lot. I've only been twice but both times we walked the Strip via the hotels and walkways. I also have the impression [and this may well be wrong] but the heat is pretty much the same year round confused.gif confused.gif The months I've travelled there are May and October and we are going for daughter's 21st in December. It's on the hot side but not sweaty heat like Singapore where I found I couldn't breathe easily as it's so humid. I'm guessing the hotel rates are the reason Las Vegas was chosen and there is so much to do there. Hey I don't gamble at all lol.gif

Viking I love your avatar grin.gif
Babble1
I spoke with my aunt...who is there at least twice a year (for 30 years now) and is very particular to heat. (i.e. she gets uncomfortable, sweats and complains a lot lol.gif ) She said that it is hot, but it is a dry heat and doesn't remember sweating while she was there last July. shrug.gif Even so... I doubt that the walk from the A/C'd venues to a taxi, or the next casino over, will result in too much exposure. tongue.gif

I'm going to drag her with me, so we are booking everything this weekend. grin.gif She gets a lot of comps at The Golden Nugget because of her loyal 30-year's worth of gambling losses to them so we will stay there. lol.gif

I am not a gambler, but we are going to book some other stuff... possibly a bus tour to Hoover Dam, and the Cirque de Solei - Mystere show.

Aew, shoot, I was going to ask if i do go( agian I really don't care for that date ,since it's so hot here in July, ) okay I'm just so surprised that they decided on Vegas & the month, I would of thought NY in Sept, or so? Or if Vegas why not in a colder months??

Okay sorry there, I had my "ADHD" moment. rolleyes.gif lmao.gif rotfl.gif

Anyways I was going ask if you'd be roomies with me Babble if I go( then in July) & not ( like maybe planned at the begining of the year) anyways, it's cheap for me to go there, but only on a "last moment thing" like a month in advance.

okay is this the right thread to chat here? there is no title for a OTO posting then eh??

alrighty then I've about messed up everyone's thinking process here, spineyes.gif skep.gif wave.gif
Babble1
Hey Everybody... I booked by airfare so there is no turning back now! I hope to see lotsa Fehrians there. nod.gif Although it doesn't look like many of you are going to make the trip. sad.gif

I'll PM you HMQ. smile.gif

Vinity
HMQ~ We had this in the working stages for a long time on the Mod board. We chose the month to favor the Euro's and people teaching coming. It the little bit of overlap in school off times. The setting came from a poll. So many cons are organized in Ca we thought it would be nice to be different adn a lot of people really don't want to deal with a large crowd in NY. Orlando was also considered.

Babble :eek; you've already book eek.gif we're still in the working stages. I hope to god nothing changes. lol.gif BTW don'tcha love the "dry heat" thing lmao.gif been waiting for that lol.gif

From my past cons you really don't get outside all that much people lol.gif
Babble1
shock.gif You think the weekend will change? I have 24 hours to cancel, but after that I have to pay a fee to make changes. I was thinking the date/weekend was solid, just the venue and festivities were up in the air. uhoh.gif

I am a huge planner. I have to make my arrangements and plan everything really early. The less planning, the less likely I am to do it. I'm weird like that. spineyes.gif

Here's hoping nothing changes. tongue.gif

I know it is hot in July, but that isn't a good enough reason not to go. At least not for me. It is hot everywhere in July (well almost). I don't think you guys are planning any outdoor picnics... are you? wink.gif
HeavyMetalQueen
Yeah I don't think ya should've jumped in so quickly, eek.gif but if you have insurance , then that is a bonus. thumbsup.gif

Hey Vinity I totally agree with what you are saying now, so yeah it does make sence, with all the otehr conventions that take place( cmic con, ect.)

Oh Thank Godness you never decided on Orlando, I would never go there ever agian, nope 2 times was way too much now Daytona Beach I loved so much better,

Well i won't know for sure Vinity until like May or June 1st of next year, only because My Mom & I are going to be setting dates plans for a Mother /daughter trip, in Jan, so if I can't come up with $1200.00 by the end of Jan, then I might have to go to Vegas with My Mom because it';s so much cheaper, & a month before planning for sure,I'm able to get a good deal, with a package thing.

Then of course traveling alone I don't like very much, like I did for Winnipeg, but Vegas is so much futher,& well not too safe really is it? so that will be another problem of mine, but agian wait until I can see about going, I would like to met everyone, agian & then there is "who will hang out with me, since everyone's always going together, I don';t know ......( bunking with a complete stranger I don't even associate with , so yeah lots to think about after My trrip with my Mom, if I'm still around too on here. too many desions not fully"thought out yet " eh! lmao.gif

wave.gif
Babble1
Actually they don't offer cancel insurance for "oops we want to cancel", just for death or illness, which I think is a total crock. I thought death in the family reservations could be cancelled with a death certificate/proof. So, we cancelled the reservations without penalty and will rebook when an official date is posted. I just hope that a new date cooperates with my school schedule and that I can still go for the MB party.

Vin... Dry heat... I don't know if I know what that feels like, but I have heard of it before. lol.gif Actually I dated a guy from Arizona that lived here, in SC. He said it gets well over 100 degrees in AZ, but the heat definitely doesn't affect you the way heat plus humidity does at 90 degrees.
Vinity
Oh we haven't changed the date, it just the party is very much in the planning stages, you never know what might happening. shrug.gif It's a little too early for flights.

True, and see with me over the last few years I've actually found that trains are cheaper (depending on a number of things) so I'm still planning and considering with the rest of you. shrug.gif

I understand. It may be too early for flights regarding this gathering, but from previous experience prices only increase as the date nears/desired flight is booked. I guess they have those last minute specials when flights aren't full, but they can't be counted on.

If it don't work out, it don't work out. wink.gif Just knowing a ticket costs $450 today and then possibly paying $700 for it later will be a big bummer, if not make it unaffordable. We'll see what happens. I guess you'll post when the event date is solid. rainbow.gif

Ummm... Train? shock.gif scary :shudder:

Ummm... Train? shock.gif scary :shudder:

It's not that bad, it's actually quite enjoyable, though the scariest part of it (particularly) has been in New York, around midnight in the station. That's frightening lol.gif I only say that with confidence because I've been to NY a total of 4 times, and Philly once all via train so to me it's safer than planes shrug.gif To each his/her own though. grin.gif
Vinity
I think a couple of years ago, the cheapest point for flights was actually 4-6 weeks before, prior to that it was more and after. That might have changed in the last couple of years.
Sue
Flights from the UK to the States are completely different. The rates depend on the holiday times - rates hike up in school holidays and usually the longer away the time you can book, the cheaper the price. There was one year I was watching the flight I wanted jump up $200 every couple of days eek.gif eek.gif There's usually a ten month window on scheduled flights and only so many cheap seats. Since about 18 months ago, flight prices have gone up by over a third because of rising oil prices. I hyperventilated when I saw the LA flight prices in May lol.gif
HeavyMetalQueen
Yeah Sue that seems to be the same here, but sometimes you can get flights so darn cheap( i stil don't know how, since I never see it, when I go to the sites they say is where they went), but yeah for NV really nobody goes ther as much in the summer so It would be cheaper for me in that sence,

But usually booking a flight for there, is best for a month or more ahead of time, it seems to be that way right now.

I've been looking thru travel books for vactaion pacakages for the last 2 months & I had to give up, it was #1 too over welming for me #2 they all seemed to look the same,( that's why My Mom said we'd just decide later in Jan, where to go,) but really it does look like Vegas more & more,

wave.gif Oh PQ the via train doesn't sound too bad, I'd actaully like to take it sometime, but only to go to Vancouver eh.

Babble, I'm so happy you cancelled I was a bit shock.gif shocked that you went to book so fast, but yeah that was a good deal, but hey! if it cost you more, now you have more time to save up, & then of course more $ to spend on the machines eh!

Yeah that's where my butt will be, ther & the shows, & the trips to exurtions ect,

That is probably still true, but to me that is last minute. By that time I am halfway done packing. (maybe not that bad...*snicker*) I know... I'm weird. spineyes.gif

A train ride across the country 2,200 miles... It would probably take the better part of 2 to 3 days for me. I looked it up and there isn't a route via amtrak from SC to NV. no.gif
Vinity
Yeah, no way I could do the train either grin.gif DV and Michael keep wanting to take a train up north rolleyes.gif I nix it grin.gif We did do the train from Inverness to Sue's in Scotland, but that was a UK train, a whole different animal.

Sue
I just did an Amtrak from Toronto to New York. It was ace..... lovely scenery, relaxed atmosphere, lots of room. Alix and I bought all the trashy gossip magazines and read them all. It took 12 hours so we paid for an upgrade which was ridiculously cheap about $20 and we drank that much free hot chocolate cool.gif We had to go back to Toronto to fly home and thd flight took...1 hour lol.gif I was glad I had done it though I did think it would have been even better about now with the thousands of trees changing colour. I felt I saw a lot of New York State. grin.gif But the travelling time was so different so you have to weigh up what you want from your trip. I think the flight was marginally cheaper than the train. However I do love travelling by train. When we were little we used to go to Northern Italy by train. [I come from a railway family grin.gif ] That took 2 days..... now it's a 2 hour flight. cool.gif

Just thinking.....the train windows on the Amtak were very dirty though - I think the trains have trouble financially. You should do a trip Vin - just take your laptop lol.gif It would be really good educationally for Michael - you get a very good sense of where places are and distance. I could probably tell you where any town is in teh UK with approximate distance between places from all the travelling I did as a kid. Airflights are surreal - you can go anywhere in the UK in about an hour lol.gif Unless it's extreme top to bottom when it would take about 2 wink.gif
Spook
Can people pist their intention to attend this party (or not) on the party poll. We really need an idea of numbers before we can book a venue etc wink.gif
Vinity
just bumbing this so the two party threads are together for a moment. GO GO Go to not one...but two two two MB parties!

I just might grin.gif
HeavyMetalQueen
Yeah that London one sounds more for me, grin.gif Oh I got some very cool flyers & booklets from a girl ,who just came back from N.V. I am a bit "overrwhelmed" by all the "exurstions" you can do in Vegas, but they do make it quite clear, no minors in any of the casino's & shows, ( you have to be 21 years old ) & oh (a few of them I mean.) But gosh "Chippendales". drool.gif oh yeah!! drool.gif lol.gif & so many "discounts" to fly over "Hoover Dam" ect. I got a kick outa the one flyer, the Hoover Dam store reads: Best Dam store ever" lmao.gif too funny but I supose you had to read it eh.....
( also it sure is pricey there too,!)

wave.gif
Decoy
If MB ever decided to throw one of these down under you can def count me in!

Waheee.
