I think DA inadvertantly alienated it's fans with the severe gear shift of season two. I know I fell off the radar with it around the time Joshua got fleas- I felt they had abandoned what made it so great in the first season. It was only after the DVD's came out that I actually SAW the last few eps, and regained my love for the series as a whole! If they had maintained that focus on the gritty day-to-day reality from the first season, eased up on the 'Transgenic of the week' syndrome, and KEPT LYDECKER (and not given us a chance to over-think things, heh heh) I believe the fan base would have rallied stronger and harder and maybe got us a movie to tie up looses ends...possibly even another season all together.

Ditto.
Losing Lydecker when his character had finally started to redeem himself was unfortunate; I often wondered if he was supposed to resurface for the [never seen] 3rd season?
Cannot agree enough about the "losing focus... Trannie of the week" problem; I think this is probably what caused the show to lose enough viewers that Fox canceled it. Of course, Fox' own mishandling (by shifting timeslots w/o lots of advance notice and double-slotting during the transition) really deserves the majority of the blame, but if DA had still had the tight focus of season 1, it could have weathered this assault. We'll never know.
