From Green Room Magazine,a list of Musicians you Should Know About:

10 Artists You Should Know About

Tyler James

Not to be confused with his British namesake, Tyler James is a young singer-songwriter from Nashville. Accompanied by a keyboard or guitar, Tyler has a knack for writing a song that manages to be simple yet say a lot.

Goldrush

This four-piece play a welcome brand of straight-up, energetic rock, always good for bouncing around to. Their album Ozona was released in early 2006.

Jim Noir

A recent Barsuk Records find, Jim Noir is a British singer-songwriter given to eccentric yet pleasant little ditties dedicated to such things as his computer, and the key of C.

The Alternate Routes

The debut record by the Alternate Routes, due out March 13th from Vanguard Records, showcases strong songwriting and Dylanesque vocals. Of particular note is the lead track "Ordinary".

James Marsters

Few non-fans know that this star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Smallville is an accomplished musician in addition to his other talents. He is currently writing songs for his sophomore release.

Faded Grey

Rochester, NY's Faded Grey recently unleashed their EP Revived upon an unsuspecting world, and are now putting the finishing touches on their debut album. Look for it soon!

Allison Crowe

Crowe plays classical, jazz and rock, on a variety of instruments - and it's all terribly good. Hailing from Nanaimo, BC, Crowe's plans for 2007 include touring in both North America and Europe.

The Album Leaf

Tristeza guitarist Jimmy Lavalle's solo project, The Album Leaf released a fourth album of atmospheric post-rock in September 2006.

Mat Kearney

Kearney has manage to get his acoustic-driven pop-rock out there without getting pigeonholed with the "Christian rock" label. His current single "All I Need" was written based on two of his friends from New Orleans and their story during Hurricane Katrina.

Locksley

A four-piece rock and roll band that was originally formed in Madison, Wisconsin, Locksley moved to Brooklyn to produce their own take on British Sixties rock.

Oh,here's something very nice. James singing "Robin". Thanks to Ghostgirl for sharing this link

Vinity
That's nice. Who's Robin? Boy his hair is getting really curly.
Berengaria
Robin was a woman he dated many, many years ago. "Smile" is the song about the beginning of their relationship...and "Robin" is the story of the break-up.

(just fyi ... Patricia is the woman he has been dating for the last 3 years. He was telling us on the QM that he is "in love" .)

The hair is for his role in P.S.I Love You. It remains to be seen what it will look like by Grand Slam in 3 weeks (James hates that he has curly hair. )

Review at Whedonopolis of James' concert in Atlanta over the DragonCon weekend:

James Marsters Previews New Songs During Intimate Show in Atlanta, GA
Written by Maria G
Thursday, 06 September 2007

James Marsters played a concert in Atlanta last Saturday night, coinciding with his appearance at Dragon*Con. The concert was held at a place called Center Stage, a quaint, intimate setting with stadium sitting and rows of chairs added down in front of the stage, which were quickly filled by his most faithful fans.

Before the show, Steve Himber announced James’ schedule for the next day at the convention, as well as a small charity auction to be held after the show, with proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

James then came on stage, and introduced his guitar Crystal to us. Malcolm, the guitar he’d used at the concerts in Burbank, CA and Farmingdale, NY got injured while traveling from Germany to Cardiff, he shared, and was still at the shop being repaired. Crystal had also managed to get into trouble, and he was hoping for the best.

He opened the show with “For What I Need,” quickly followed by a song he wrote in Cardiff while shooting “Torchwood,” called “Layabout.” The smoke machine was going a bit bonkers, which caused him to quip, “Who’s smoking a cigarette?” “All That She Wanted”, which he claimed to have written to dig himself out of a deep hole, and “Up On Me” (a self-pity song) followed, as did “Smile”, “Louise”, “Poor Robyn”, and “Civilized Man”, which he prefaced by retelling the story of a mean, sweaty PA on the set of Cool Money whom he later discovered was a coke addict. He reiterated that he always has his guitar with him on set.

The songs kept coming, and it was time for “Not a Millionaire”, “White Hot Girls” (which his niece saved, asking him to “write a verse about good girls” as the unfinished song “offended her”), “Vandals” (the first song he wrote with his friend Gordon Hart, who wants to call it “Button Down Vandals” instead), and three new ones: “Lookin’ at You” (a new favorite), “Don’t Worry, Son” (inspired by the time he fell asleep behind the wheel while driving to visit his son after shooting long hours on Buffy) and “Like a Waterfall” (that I also like very much.)

“Fall of Night” was announced as “the song I had to write to get out of the hole because of the other song earlier”, followed by “The Truth Is (A Heavy Stone).” After that, James addressed us by saying, ‘I’m gonna end with a love song. Please scream, ‘cause I want to come back out.” And it was time for “London City”, and James’ exit.

There was much screaming, stomping, clapping, hooting and cheering, and James came back out. He explained he used to think it was “really lame” to leave the stage and come back when it was just him, but he realized it was actually nice. So, he gave us four more songs, “Katie”, “The Birth of the Blues” (which is his rebuttal to the legend that says Robert Johnson made a deal with the devil to play the blues – “That’s all bullshit, just because he didn’t want to say who’d taught him.”), the new song “Dance Slow”, “Dangerous” (a B-side from the Ghost of the Robot album “Mad Brilliant”) and “Angel” about “dear Helena.”

The show ended on that note, and then Steve came back out for the auction. He announced that James would personalize all the items for the auction winners. The items included the t-shirt James had worn Friday (“unwashed” said Steve, and James grabbed it and dried off his sweat from the show with it), which went for $750, as well as a picture that had been in James’ studio, at his place, a limited edition photograph, tonight's set list and a copy of the latest issue of the UK magazine “Starburst” featuring John Barrowman and James on the cover. Over $2,000 was raised for the charity and James thanked us for helping save the lives “of at least a couple kids right there.”

Overall, another great show despite minor complaints from Crystal while James was playing, which frustrated him a bit. James had announced at Dragon*Con that he’s in the process of recording his new album, and that he hoped to have it released as soon as October. Here’s hoping it’s out in time for his upcoming show in L.A., at the end of that month.

Are you going B? Sounds like fun
Berengaria
I can't.... I mean, I can.....but

I'm doing some work for a casting company and we are actually shooting a film here in October/November. So, I'm tied up. But I'm doing something I love so it's all good. nod.gif
Berengaria
James' new CD is up for pre-order at his Official site! He's calling it "Like A Waterfall".

I am so happy because that is one of my favorite songs that he does and he said it might not be on the album because the producer just wanted the "up-beat" songs. But looks like it made it. He says they'll be shipping by Nov, 18th. cool.gif

I missed this. This is very cool grin.gif I'm sorry your missing the party tho sad.gif

I'll have to maybe keep an eye out for something JM after Christmas. My kid, actually all of us are huge fans of Craig Fergerson and Michael wants to see the show live. He's now saying next time I have a gig towards LA he wants to go and get tickets. The only thing I'd really like to do in LA {ish} is go to Scapercon but that is next month is too soon.

This is "my" movie. lol.gif

How do you like my new avatar?
Vinity
OMG grin.gif the new avi is awesome! It's the new guitar? grin.gif

LOVE the look of the movie. Super cast, super storyline. I hope it's leaning to what I see as the truth, which is we were frelling CHEATED!!!!! I STILL haven't recovered from Bush stealing the presidency or Dictatorship as he seems to think the job is Grrr mad.gif Sorry democrat coming out.
Berengaria
Actually, it was written to be completely fair and non-judgemental to both sides. It is supposed to be a factual retelling of what actually happened....one blundering snafu after the next...that led to the Presidency being decided by the Supreme Court.

Now whether or not that is possible to achieve...we'll have to wait and see. But I think the world of the writer of this so I have high hopes that it will be a great script.

No,I've never seen James use a fender in a concert. Usually he has an acoustic guitar with duct tape across the hole. But this might be a new guitar of his...I don't know. I do hope this will be the CD cover but again...just a-waiting and a-seeing. lol.gif
Vinity
Is this Danny Strong from Buffy? I'd heard he'd written something but this is HUGE.

Sorry for the democrat popping out. That gets me all wound up.
Berengaria
Yes,it is Danny Strong from Buffy/Gilmore Girls. He is really passionate and knowledgeable about politics and is a really intelligent man. His script has gotten a very good reception. Lots of "big name players" signed on right away. And even tho it hasn't been filmed yet Variety and Hollywood Reporter have done publicity on it. There just is a lot of "buzz" about it.

Now to live up to the expectations. nod.gif

Hope the weather co-operates...we're getting a lot of rain.
Berengaria
New message from James up at his official site:

10-11-07
I can’t wait for you guys to hear the new music. I feel like I’ve joined a band and they’re really good! I can’t wait to see your faces. I’m practicing on my guitar daily so when we see each other you’ll be happy. My fingers are sore, but it’s fun. - James

Aw, how excited does he sound? grin.gif
Vinity
He does sound excited lol.gif I love how is like "when we see each other" I really need to preorder
Berengaria
Yes, he has a lot of boyish enthusiasm about playing his music in public. And he really appreciates that when he first stood up to play as a solo act (after GOTR), he wasn't that good...but the fans encouraged him to keep playing his music. And because the audience was THERE and supportive, he had time to learn and improve. Now he has a real record producer for this CD, he's got some good musicians to work with, and he really feels that his song-writing has come a long way (it has) . He said (at the party at DC) that he doesn't know how to thank us for that...he's so grateful. A voice called out "Just keep singing your songs for us!" And he nodded vigorously and said "All right...I will!"

James has a real circle of love that goes around at those things...he to fans...fans to him...fans to each other (mostly) and all back again. That's why I find it so addictive. James treats us all as friends and it feels good. nod.gif
Berengaria

Yoga Lady wrote to Steve,James' manager with some questions about the Album launch. He said the info could be shared. I was particularly interested in this remark:

Steve: I've obviously heard the new album and I think it's going to blow away everyones expectations! The producer and James both did an amazing job creating the perfect sounds. smile.gif

a new message from James!

Great seeing everyone at the album launch. You guys rock! I was super nervous about my broken finger but everyone made it okay and supported “Karaoke” James on stage! Thank you Ryan for saving my ass. I know we were a little off on the timing of the photos and autographs but I really enjoyed spending some time with each of you. It was great not being rushed. Steve tells me that a lot of you are concerned about my finger and I promise I’ll be good and get it taken care of. Next stop Cardiff!!

James
Vinity
He broke his finger? What happened? sad.gif Hurray Cardiff!
Berengaria
First report in from the concert... was Deanna from CDS:

Okay, concert over except for more photo ops that I opted out of.

James' shoes are those brown boots with thick soles, like in that photo of him sitting on the floor and laughing. You know the one.

They auctioned off one of his $13 Target shirts for over $1000, plus his set list for nearly that, the complete CDs of James/GotR also for over a thou, and I think his set list went for around that as well.

Poor baby broke his left index finger in Canada. Seems James was in his hotel room and had to take a piss in the middle of the night. But he wasn't familiar with the layout of the room, tripped over his own shoes in the near-darkness, and found his own face coming towards himself. Realizing that he was about to crash into the full-length mirror and that he had to film the next day, he did a "not the face! not the face!" and put his hands out to stop himself, and broke his finger because the corner was right there. So he was able to play about 70% of his set list by just using his other three fingers for power chords, but some songs he had to do Karaoke-style to the instrumental tracks from the CD. It was adorkable. smile.gif
Vinity
Awwww sad.gif Yeah you can see how swollen it is in the pics. It's amazing how much easier we break as we get older. Maybe we should all pitch in and get him a travelling nightlight?

It's alway a big fight with DV and I when we travel. I have to have light as I'm very nightblind. He likes total darkness. This, plus his being on call many nights and the whole snoring factor has cause us to have two rooms many times at home. It's musical bedrooms. The kid is the only one with a set place to sleep. DV and I go to sleep in many places lol.gif

ON James. I liked the hair a lot. I do love just a little of the curl to show at least.

B~ You'll be over to the Torchwood board come time, right? I was just over there and found out I've been made Mod lmao.gif someone should have told me lmao.gif ......... spookie
Berengaria
Wow! That's awesome,Vin. Though they might have thought to mention it to you. Yes, I'll be over lots now. I do watch the season 1 on BBCA now....and to say I'm looking forward to season 2...well, I have no words. I'm bouncing with glee. nod.gif

Poor James, I think a lot of people would have cancelled an appearance if they were that hurt. He told people how nervous he was to get up in front of them and try to play like that. He was disappointed it turned out like that. But you know, this crowd was fine with what he could do...and when he turned to using the soundtrack music as back up (for some numbers he couldn't play with that finger injured) people said he was even better because he was acting the songs more.
Berengaria
Lilycat has found out that JM is doing an MTV radio tour on April 8th. Thanks to her for the info! cool.gif

from the orlando examiner

Saturday, April 18, see James Marsters live in concert at FX International! The actor who rocketed to fame as a punk goth vampire named Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is an accomplished musician and songwriter. Leader of a band called Ghost of the Robot for over two years, the band's first album, "Mad Brilliant," was released in February 2003. He then went on to pursue a solo performing/recording career. "Civilized Man," Marsters’ first solo CD, was released during his sell-out 2005 European tour.

As anyone who goes to scifi conventions knows (like little ole scifi fan me), Saturday is a great day to attend. Besides all the fun gaming, anime, outrageous costumes, artists/writers alley, and tons of other fun stuff, be sure you go on Saturday to hear James perform.

Other special guest this year are Julie Benz, Clare Kramer, Juliet Landau, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Bud Davis, Jonathan Frakes, Mark Goddard, James Kyson Lee, Danny Steinmann, Cerina Vincent, Lindsay Wagner, WWF Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Valerie “SoCalVal” Wyndham. And on Sunday only – Leonard Nimoy! What a list of celebs!

(And be sure to catch James in Dragonball Evolution coming to theaters this May.)
