Do you like to listen to music while you read? I sometimes do, but it's got to be music that doesn't have words. For example, Harold Budd's The White Arcades, or the Mysterious Skin soundtrack. Both of those are amazing.

A bit off topic, but speaking of music, you should all check this out,

I always listen to music when I read a book.

i'm the same in terms of listening to music while reading, but without any words. then i start to sing along and get distracted lol.gif

I find it easiest to read when I have music on. It just helps me escape to another world. Like when I am traveling in a plane, train, or car I feel like I can be completely content if I have a book and my iPod.
JBRulez
I sometimes listen to music, mostly soundtrack scores or classical music.

Any favorite soundtracks you read to?

I agree. I don't really care what music i Listen to. As long as it isn't rap I'm fine though i do prefer Josh Groban.

I don't like to read books while listening to music unless I have to. (like in the car with family who are listening to the radio & I'm reading my book)

I never really thought about this but I guess I always do have some sort of noise on when I am reading. Most of the time it's the tv or something but sometimes I will have my ipod or computer on playing music. As long as it's not something more interesting than my book I am able to pay attention to what i am reading.
Standoutworld
I agree. I listen to music to block out the sounds of the world. So i can escape to the world of my book.
Quaisior
I always listen to music while I read so I can block out the sound of my noisy neighbors. Lately I have The Alternative/ 120 Minutes on while I read; it's an alternative music show on VH1 Classic.
Standoutworld
You should fight noise with noise!
carly-hope
sometimes. but when Im too into a book I tend to tune out everything

when outsidde I perefer to listen to music though

I love listening to music while reading a good book. And if it's a certain CD and I go back to listen to that CD later on, it always makes me think of the book I was reading while listening to that CD. The music is just kinda like backround noise, helps me read on a deeper level.

For me it depends on what type of book that I read.
If I read something for leisure, than it would be nice to have some background sound in the back.
Or, if I feel that if there is no music, I will fall asleep in a short time, than I would open my Winamp.
rainday
Well it depends on what kind of reading , if I do those serious readings I'd prefer quiet, if those reading are for pleasure , I will enjoy some music at the same time.
Maxi
For me, it doesn't really matter if it's quiet or if I listen to music. If it's a good book, I block pretty much everything out. nod.gif

If I get really into the book music is just too distracting but if I am just casually reading something then I listen to my Ipod
brightwindows
I like listening to light music while reading.
~shane~
I have to listen to music when I'm reading, its usually to close out any other noise that will distract me, however I can't listen to Sleater-Kinney while reading, and some times Patti Smith, otherwise I'll be into the songs and not the music, but if I ever get distracted from the book because of the music I listen to I'll usually switch with more instrumental than words, such as Requiem for a Dream theme song, Sigur Ros, or Broken Social Scene.
