That is very nice

Does anyone wonder what kind of girls (if any) Max/Michael dated before Liz/Maria? I really can't recall any mention of previous dates, though we know Isabel dated.

I don't see them dating prior to Liz/Maria. Max, because he was the 'Behind the Tree' type, and Michael, because, well, he was Michael. No personal attachments, no relationships with humans, everyone is a potential enemy/threat.

I agree, and it hardly seems likely (from what we saw) that Max socialised at all except with Michael and Isabel though perhaps he did when very young until he realised that he was "different"

. I don't think Michael would have been very sociable either...

i like to think in their other life they were rebel/troublemakers and heartbreakers

maybe michael was more calm and max was more out there - you know switching roles
max ran around with lots of different girls - maybe a lot at the same time
i like to think he was carefree and out-there
michael would be that reserved philosophical type - a book reader wearing sweaters with jackets he would swing over his shoulder.
hahaha that would be great!

I have to agree with both of you.
I just couldn't remember any girl being mentioned even in passing, and as stated Max was 'behind the tree' and Michael not the most sociable of hybrids.

Love the picture Healing Hand!!
In the flashbacks it seemed that Max was pretty shy, and he always was watching Liz even back then. Think about what Ava sais about Zan, he seemed to be waiting for somthing or someone, he never felt the same for her that she felt for him. Max was somehow always meant for Liz in my mind.

Or that he was meant for Ava, while Zan waited for Tess (the 'switching pods' theory).

Interesting... I've never connected the pod switching theory to that comment, but it makes sense. I'm also reading a fic where Zan wasn't really waiting for someone else, but kept his distance because he didn't want to hurt her (I'm trying to remember the specifics of why, but I think it was for similar reasons that Michael keeps a distance).
Of course, I always go with the Liz idea, but it was such a vague comment, that they really left if open to interpretation.

I always assumed she was human... I mean, all we have on Serena is 'Serina said...she's gonna be a friend of yours one day. It has something to do with quantum mechanics, but in essence, Max and I would both be destroyed if we actually came into contact.', right?

Interesting question. Serena is fascinating, because she was apparently so influential on the plot of the show, but we know almost nothing about her.
I think that Liz met her at Harvard, in the science department. I never thought much about the rest of it, or how much she knew about the pod squad.
I also assumed that she was human, but come to think of it, maybe she was alien.

'Serena' was in the Roswell High book series, but it's been so long since I've read them I can't remember details about her without pulling out the books.
I know she was Liz's friend though.

Very possible. And still leave the options open. Who did she work with? Was she on Earth the entire time? Was she an alien like Nasedo, a hybrid, or something else all together?
vilandragirl
Mar 25 2007, 02:25 AM
Well, if she was working for someone, that could add a new dimension to why she was "helping" them in TEOTW. Maybe she worked for one of their enemies. Maybe she wasn't really a "friend." Or maybe that someone fed her a line about what had to happen, and she thought she was helping.

I'm sorry, but I lost you

I understood your post (the part that I quoted) as her being fed by someone who wanted to harm the hybrids, as so by creating a way for Max to come back in time, he would ensure that (that they
would be harmed).
I'm not sure I'm explaining myself right here

Yes, that is what I mean, sort of. I'm saying that maybe the person that orchestrated the whole thing intended for the change in the timeline to be harmful for the Pod Squad. And it may have been. We don't know that the end of the world didn't come sooner than 2014 in the new timeline. Maybe in the first timeline Alex did something important to help them, but he couldn't in the second timeline because he was dead. But that's a bad example, because that would not show malicious intent.
Here's another example- (and I'm not saying this happened, it's just the only thing I can come up with). Maybe Kivar comes to Earth and goes to Tess to collect on the deal that Nasedo made. She comes back, and orchestrates the whole thing to insure that she will be with Max. She uses Serena, since that is the best way to throw suspicion from her. Far-fetched, I grant you, but it is the only example I can come up with at the moment.

And a great example it is.
I have to say that when I read your post I thought of a third party, someone we didn't get to see and/or know. Which would have made it harder, or so I think, for the group, and through them, to Serena, to catch on it on time.

If Max 'had' left Earth in the ship with Kal how do you think that would have effected Michael and Isabel?
vilandragirl
Apr 2 2007, 12:48 AM
Ken Leon, great art, and quite a departure from your normal work.
Interesting question, Lori. I think they would probably be angry with him for leaving them. They never really touched too much on their feelings about him looking for his son, but I imagine that they somewhat had a similar feeling to Liz, that while they sympathized with him, the whole situation probably reminded them of Tess. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that the way that I mean it.
And since they knew that he was facing almost certain death if he went back to Antar, they may have felt abandoned.

I think that while they would both be hurt and scared for him, they would have reacted differently to the situation. Michael would have been pissed off, Isabel would have been broken.

ITA
Michael would be pissed off to not be consulted and offered the chance but if Max had asked them I wonder if he would have chosen to go, given the choice he made in 'The Departure'? It might have messed up Isabel's romance with Jesse since she couldn't tell him the truth at that point, I think she'd be really torn between being there for Max and the possibility that she might not be able to ever return to earth. But it seems like Max felt it was something he had do alone, maybe not wanting to put the others at risk.

I think Max would be angry at first because he'd believe Philip and Diane were put in more danger by knowing the secret, Michael would just be mad as hell

. I think Michael would want to cut and run but Max might come round to thinking it was a good thing after a while but he'd be worried all the same.
Diane would be shocked but very sympathetic to their plight and maybe upset that Max and Iz hadn't been able to trust her I reckon but I wonder of Max felt she wouldn't accidentally let the secret slip somehow, especially if Valenti or the Special Unit pressed her. I think she'd feel obliged to tell Philip too and he'd be very practical after getting over the shock. This is how I see it based on 4AAB, but it's a pity that the end of S3 was curtailed and the whole thing compressed by the panic over the return of Tess and baby Zan.
