Saw the movie. It was really good! Maggie of course steals the scene in her story playing a carefree/ hippie professor trying to teach John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph how to raise their children. Definately check it out if its playing in your area!

THis is a bit late but Maggie Gyllenhaal is hosting documentary series entitled 'Independent Lens' on PBS Tues Oct 13th. Here is what the article said about Maggie's Roles:

""The characters she has created on screen are indelibly crafted in honesty and truth; we are delighted that she will be hosting our upcoming season,” said series producer Lois Vossen."

And what Maggie has to say about the documentary:

""I'm a passionate believer in the power of independent film. ‘Independent Lens' filmmakers ignore the rules of commercial programming and spend years pursuing diverse stories about people not normally seen on TV. I am truly honored to present their work as the new host of ‘Independent Lens,'” said Gyllenhaal."

'An Education' very good. Definately would recommend it, especially to see Peter Sarsgaard play David. He is so sly and charming and the same time. Very interesting movie and great cast. Has anyone else seen it yet?

Gyllenhaal talks about her new movie: 'Crazy heart'

Source: blogs.wsj.com by Elva Ramirez

" “I think it’s my favorite film I’ve made,” Gyllenhaal said of “Crazy Heart,” a character portrait that stars Jeff Bridges as washed-up country singer Bad Blake. After early Oscar buzz, the film is being rushed into theaters in December to qualify for awards season.

“It is a little movie that is really about things, that’s complicated,” Gyllenhaal said. “They don’t make them like that any more.”

Gyllenhaal plays a journalist and single-mom who falls for Bridges’ character, and said it was the first movie since she completely threw herself into since the birth of her daughter. “Working with Jeff Bridges — It was how it’s supposed to be,” she said. “It was five-page-long complicated deep scenes that we were allowed to play in a hundred different ways. It was like a movie from the ’70s.” "

Can't wait to see it! I love all her movies!

Saw 'Crazy Heart' during the holiday break and it was wonderful! Definately a movie you go see for the acting because the story is sad and at times hard to stomach. However there are some redemptive turns in the movie. Jeff Bridges is of course amazing and I was turly impressed with Collin Ferrell. I did not recognize him at all. Of c ourse I'm biased in saying that Maggie was my favorite! She always is! HOpe EVERYONE goes to see it! Both Jeff Bridges and Collin Ferrell sing in it and do a nice job. The songs in the movie are amazingly well written.

Maggie talks about developing and distributing independent movies:

" Mmm. I mean, I’ve done independent movies where I was like a constant part of getting it to distribution, you know, like ‘Sherrybaby,’ I had to go and get dressed up and have dinner with all the distributors, and get the money to begin with. And then go to the festivals, and wine and dine everybody, and chat everybody up, and do my job.

In this case, it wasn’t on my shoulders in that way. But still, of course, I loved the movie so much I followed everything that happened with it. In a way, it’s like a perfect picture of the financial climate of the movie industry. "

Both Maggie and Jeff nominated for Oscars for their performances in Crazy Heart! bouncy.gif Excited for both of them, but especially for Maggie!
EOcean214
Alas, neither Maggie nor Peter Sarsgaard's An Education win anything at the Academy Awards. I haven't seen precious so I can't judge the performance against Maggie, but Maggie was wonderful. I'm glad that Jeff Bridges got it, well deserved after all these years. I was keeping my fingers crossed for An Education because it was a very important story for young females and a very underrated movie. Glad Hurt Locker won though. Lets root for Maggie next year!
