Greetings fellow folowers of the Doctor. So here we are looking at part 2 of the first 3 parter in the RTD (Russel T. Davies) era. We have some great moments and clasic refrences, and perhaps that's why some of the younger or new viewers don't care for this trilogy so much... Yet. I liked it but I did not love it, this season (for me) peaked at 'Blink' even being a clasic fan I don't see this 3 parter toping that almost perfect story.

Not going to go on a tie raid in my first post on this forum smile.gif

Cheers,
Merlin McCarley

I absolutely loved this episode.

Forget my fears that John Simm wasn't going to be "The Master" for me - he so inhabited that part. Really well. The Master was back and more manic than ever, and it was great!

I wasn't keen on the Doctor's make-up job. Not very good aging make-up. I've seen better. (I think Farscape has spoiled me when it comes to that sort of make-up).

The phone conversation between the two TimeLords was quite captivating for me - both actors being very convincing. Both characters in pain over what had happened in the Time war. Just seeing two Time Lords speaking to each other again was refreshing.

The Doctor being most displeased with Jack for joining Torchwood was also good. And Jack peddling furiously to convince him that this was a good thing and Torchwood is different now. That was a good touch. (Btw, I want to know how Torchwood is going to explain the TARDIS picking up Jack at the end of the last ep there, when he has now obviously met the Doctor again etc - which kind of throws out a lot of the Torchwood dialogue with Jack needing the Doctor to explain and answer all his questions... but I digress).

Pip was captivated by the entire episode as well. I had thought she wouldn't be able to follow it, but she did. The only downside was the scene where Martha's Dad was being taken away by the police. That really upset her - but that's because of her life experiences, and nothing to do with this show. Still, it put a dampner on the episode and spoiled it for her.

I have to agree Blink was my highlight ep so far and it was a Doctor LITE ep!

On this ep, parts I loved parts, not so much. First off, Simms was super! I heard someone describe the phone conversations as bitter phone sex lol.gif and I agree. Love the Gallifrey parts, I always adore backstory characterizations parts. I like the little balls. More effective than Daleks, while still being a bit Daleky.

LOVED Martha getting pissed at the Doctor! ITA that the Doctor being pissed at Jack being with Torchwood was great. I was kind of sad we didn't have more of the Torchwood cast cross over. Could have been some very interesting clashes there butthe Torchwood staff seeing the Doctor might have made the interactions of the Torchwood staff better than the messed up mess they are.

Dislikes ~Jack does need to so something more than die, a bunch sad.gif Hated the make up. HATED that whole turn of the story at the end. What point in making the Doctor OLD? Why send Martha to earth? What can she do to fight down there? Was I missing some plan?

Again HATE the old makeup. BAD BAD BAD! Made worse because the day before another show ended with BAD OLD PEOPLE makeup! Two in 24 hours Pisses me off!!!

Spook~ I wasn't even fond of the Old makeup on Farscape. I did see another show sometime last week that did have good old person makeup and now I can't remember which it was. {damn brain} I just remember seeing it and going OMG, that looks amazing.

Oh and LOVED the lazar screwdriver lol.gif Master's screwdriver is bigger than The Doctor's screwdriver lmao.gif OMG the TARDIS!!!! Being gutted, bawl.gif bawl.gif I was totally shocked!

Hated Martha's parents. They made the point to stir Martha up but as characters they are so not redeemable. Especially the mother, but honestly, I hate them all. I think after having Rose's awesome family, even Micky, they should have stayed away from that aspect of companion story.

Oh oh oh....and the throwaway line about the Doctor saying the necklaces were like fancying someone who never notices you. Then both Martha and Jack having a moment of "you too". I think that was kind of mean on the Doctor's part. He KNOWS how Martha feels. It's not like she hasn't said it to his face several times and he's actually heard it at LEAST once. Maybe he doesn't know abut Jack, but still. Not so nice.

Apparently, DT wasn't happy about that and 'complained' in a non-serious way lol.gif

ITA about Martha's family!

I liked this bit - partly because Jack's "You too" line made me chuckle, but also it was more evidence of the Doctor's alieness.

I just watched this episode on the Sci-Fi channel for the first time last night ... and loved it. Martha's character really _gelled_ for me, in a way she hadn't before; watching the Doctor and the Master go head-to-head was fascinating and heart-breaking at the same time; I adored each and every Jack scene (like the scene someone mentioned of Jack trying desperately to explain to the Doctor that Torchwood really is different now; or the smile he gives Martha after telling her to get out because there's nothing she can do, it's such a pained, bright, heart-breaking smile); and I _love_ the Master finally telling us why the Doctor _is_ the Doctor: "The man who makes people better."

So it was just lovely, all round, and I was so happy, and couldn't wait for next week ... and then I hopped onto IMDB to look up some favorite quote lines ... and I saw that a very important, very funny, very pivotal, character-developing line had disappeared from it.

_Sci-Fi cut out the "You too, huh?" line that Jack delivers to Martha_. And there's no *way* they cut it for time.

Open Letter to Captain Harkness

(Shameless self-promotion here -- but I wrote up a little reaction to Sci-Fi's decision to edit out that all-important line ... take a peek if it maddens you as much as it maddens me.) tongue.gif

"What *world* are we in?!" How could we still be so _stupid_ that we edit out such a poignant, important, humorous line because it's too "weird" to have one man hinting at his unreturned feelings for another man?? shock.gif This is not _right_ ...

Sigh.

Noooo! They cut that line? sad.gif I usually stick to my UK copies sad.gif I hate commercials. The only ones I TiVoed from sciffy was Shakespeare Code and Blink.

Yeah -- they cut the line. And what's worse, I understand from a friend of mine that there was *nothing* funny about the delivery of the line -- that it's not funny, it's this heart-breaking, poignant, oh-so-important-to-Captain-Jack's-character sort of line, and they TOOK IT OUT! Because, as we all know, kids hearing a man talk about his feelings for another man will _totally_ make those kids who hear it gay. And that is, naturally, the absolute worst thing that could happen to anybody, anyway.

bawl.gif

(*snarls*) That is the _last_ time I _EVER_ watch an episode of "Who" on Sci-Fi. I'll stick with DLing off the 'net or waiting for the DVDs to come out. Because, the commercial interruptions were bad enough, but _this_ ... this is unforgivable.

I cannot believe they cut that line! That decision makes absolutely no sense to me spineyes.gif

I'm a bit late saying my piece here because I've been intensely busy dealing with, you know, all that Real Life nonsense. But I did _definitely_ want to express my displeasure* over this whole...thing. I just...I just don't understand why it's okay for Battlestar Galactica to show Gaius, Six, and Deana in bed together at 10 PM, but Jack isn't allowed to express sincere feelings for the Doctor at 8 PM.

Argh.

* This is _not_ the sort of language I was using last Friday. Or last weekend. Or even a couple of nights ago. I've cooled off a bit. But not a lot. I think my roommate is going to punch me in the face if I say "...and Jack couldn't say 'You too, huh?'...?!" one more time.

'The Sound Of Drums' saw the Master as the really evil person that he is. He always want to be an another Hitler, and got himself elected. He pretended to be a human, and end up betraying the human race. The Master was always a little mad, but this episode explian why. How will the Doctor get out of this mess? The answer will be revealed in the next episode.
