OK I'll ask

I already look pretty stupid as mod for not even having a clue about the pregnancy so, is this beautiful baby a boy or a girl?
Plus, BIG baby.

to Jen, bless your heart darling. Michael was only 8 1/2 pounds and THAT wasn't any fun.

Bwa ha ha!!
MGE, that's hilarious, and exactly what she's thinking!

I'm sure Dad will explain we're harmless when she (I think?

) gets older.

OMG, Sweet Baby James is so adorable! *smishes the Fehr Family* And what a lot of hair for a new baby!
I put my congrats in the message thread, but

and

here, too, to all!
Vin, I don't think anyone fannish had a clue and I'm sure that's just how Brendan wanted it.

Very nice of him to announce after the birth and post pics of such an important family event.

Well, I knew...

Won't say how I knew, but I knew

And I managed to keep quiet!

But I'm glad you asked the question, Vin because I'm feeling pretty dumb. James is a boys name, and Olivia is a girls name so... is the baby a boy or a girl?

James is a beautiful baby girl. I don't know the story behind the picking of the name, but I do know that Brendan and Jen purposely didn't want to know the sex of the baby until it arrived. They were even having a betting pool as to what it would be

and most thought it was going to be a boy!

The name "James" means "I love" in French. In France, the name James is for a girl and a boy and in French it can be pronounced as "shaim" or SHhh-aim There was a lady on Nip/Tuck whos name was James and she too said when asked about her name said it meant "I love" .
Huge congrats on the sweetie pie. I am very happy for you and your wife.

Welcome sweet James Olivia! You have a wonderful Mum and Dad and are welcomed into this world with much love and joy. May your days be filled with childhood wonders and happy adventures. May you always have health, love, joy and many friends and family surrounding you and loving you at all times.
Brendan & Jennifer, I can only imagine your feelings at this special time in your life. You and your child will become a triad of faith, strength and encouragement. You are in for a dazzling and magical adventure. Keep faith with yourselves & the Lord during any trying times what may pop- after all parenting isn't all lolly pops and sunshine
There will be times when you are completely flummoxed and bewildered -
that is when faith and Grandmas come in --believe me Grandmothers are a wonderful source of encouragement and knowledge. After all, they raised two delightful children who are now going down that very same road.
Another suggestion from this white headed dragon, learn that saying "NO" isn't bad; it maybe unpopular at times, but not bad ---besides it is now your job to do so when necessary. so learn the word and use it judiciously.
It is also very helpful to recall what its like to be a child full of wonder and testing and a quest to learn. Our children are very trusting of their parents, please learn to honor that trust.
One other thing that I learned about being a parent wa --talk with your daughter. So often we parents fall into the trap of talking to our kids, telling them what to do, when to do it; but forgetting that these young, new minds have ideas of their own to share. They have a fantastic view of the world and can offer you a fresh and unadulterated view. Talk to James Olivia early and often about "stuff." All kinds of stuff and invite and encourage her input and ideas in discussions. It really pays off in the long run. To my amazement Darling Daughter is now a boon companion and we discuss everything under the sun, but it all started in her childhood where she was encouraged that her ideas had merit.
Well, old Mother Dragon is getting off her soap box now. I'm simply tickled pink for both...no all three of you.

Oh, what a fantastic surprise!

Many, many congratulations to Brendan & Jen!
James looks
so adorable!
My daughters had the same lovely mop of hair at birth (and no, I didn't take any stomach remedies!). Everyone said it would fall out, but it never did, it just grew longer and turned blonde. I wonder if James's will do the same?
I wonder if the 'named after James Hetfield' theory is true, and whether Brendam was determined to name her James whatever the sex?

Just as well Brendan's favourite band isn't Guns 'n' Roses, 'Axl Fehr' might've been a bit much.....

On the other hand, 'Jamie' has been a name for both boys and girls for some time now, so I guess it's not
that unusual anyway.

Guess that's 'baby's first press incident'

though someone really didn't give it much thought which is kind of sad in a way, I mean really, google at this point would tell you James is a girl unless it went to print when it was still being figured out based on her name, in which case

"Son" eh? in a supposedly professional publication,

it annoys me to no end as a pro proofreader/editor, when I see stuff like that when it's so easily checked out!

And, Jen as a "prettier Reese Witherspoon" (in the comments)--well, at least they said 'prettier!'

She does look like Reese, actually.

They're both pretty!

I expect it's gonna happen a lot. I have no faith in the press. I remember watching the rumors about who Joss Whedon was casting as Wonder Woman would spread, supposedly reputable places would pick it up as fact with NO background check.
