Anyone want to talk Dresdan Files or Codex Alera?

I adore Jim, funny, well written.
Ken Leon
I have read all of the Dresden Files Series .......I purchased his latest, Small Favor over the weekend.
I also purchased the canceled TV series on DVD... I will read Small Favor after I finish the current book I'm reading.
Vinity
I got the audio of Small Favors along with the book. For the first time ever I listen first grin.gif James Marster's to rocks the audios so great grin.gif I've listened twice now grin.gif

I really enjoyed it a lot. The books are really getting much more involved.

The Codex Alera are very good also but very different. Much more fantasy and Tavi, the lead is no where near as snarky as Harry Dresdan grin.gif
Ken Leon
What is the basic premise of Codex Alera?
Vinity
This is a great Jim Butcher interview talking about the making of Alera. The audio on this part isn't great. The other parts audio are better. He's really funny. The Codex Alera part starts at about 3:40 in.

Youtube Video -> Original Video

Basically it started as bet to make a good story with 2 bad ideas, so it's a blending of Lost Roman Legion and Pokemon lol.gif Listen to the interview. JB is a riot, really.

I haven't read them yet. The audio versions sounds very promising though, listening to James Marsters voice must be a treat. grin.gif
Vinity
James does a truely amazing job. Beyond amazing. In this last book he does like 30 different voices. He can really act with his voice. Now I'm spoiled for every other reader lol.gif

Here is the link to the audios from the Buzzy ladies. They have up sample chaptures grin.gif
Ken Leon
Vinity thanks for the link..........I will purchase the first book in the series when I have finished my current projects.

So has anyone read Turn Coat the latest book in the Dresden series?
Vinity
Ken grin.gif I count the seconds to the next Butcher release and get it in both Audio and hardback form. lol.gif Then I read it in one sitting. No one DARE come near me after I get the new Dresdan lol.gif

Turn Coat is taking a darker turn. sad.gif Poor Harry bawl.gif things are getting tougher.

Ken, have you managed to catch the short stories?? They are fun. And there is a novella released by Subterranean Press, Back up { I bought the leather signed edition {eek} that stars Thomas as the lead. Thomas right before Turn Coat. There is also a Thomas/Dresdan story in Many Bloody Returns.....

Easier to list the short stories and the anthologies they appear in

Something Borrowed in My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding. Billy and Georgia {the werewolves] get married, time frame after SummerKnight

It's My Birthday too in Many Bloody Returns. It's Thomas' Birthday.

Heorot in My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon. Gard and Harry work together on a case for Mac.

Harry's Day Off in Blood lite.

The Warrior sad.gif sorry I can't remember the name of the anthology, I'll edit it later after I check my bookshelf. Anyway, Michael story AFTER Small Favor.

Most of the anthologies have a good grouping of authors. Kelley Armstrong, Sookie and others.

So has anyone read Turn Coat the latest book in the Dresden series?

I've only read two of the Dresden series and am looking forward to reading the others.
Vinity
Which ones have you read? he series starts a little uneven IMO, I mean I love Storm Front and Grave Peril but it certainly pick up after those. Jim was a youngster when he wrote them. Storm Front was something he wrote for a writting class to prove his teacher's method was WRONG lol.gif

I have to say my favorites are Dead Beat, Summer Knight, and Proven Guilty.
Aurorastarr
I've read "Storm Front" and "Fool Moon". I'm trying to read them in order. read.gif

Vinity
Grave Peril is next. The series really starts kicking into gear. I spent the other day going thru youtube interviews with Jim. He's really funny, anyway he was talking about how it upsets him now that people's introduction to Dresdan is Storm Front cause he thinks it's bad now.. Jim's favorite and my favorite book of the series is the same, Dead Beat! grin.gif But my favorite opening line is from Blood Rites "The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault." lol.gif
