I thought I'd start a thread since I have heard the rest of the Dresdan Files audios WILL be read by James Marsters given his schedule
For those who don't know. James has read books 1 thru 4 and books 10:
Storm Front
Fool Moon
Grave Peril
Summer Knight
Small Favor
To listen to sample chapters of James reading this wonderful series by Jim Butcher visit the producers of the first 4 audios,
the wonderful Buzzy Ladies

Vin, that's great news that James has been signed to read the other books. I know how impressed you are by his reading of the earlier books. I really do have to sit myself down and listen to him read. It's on my To Do List.

Some info on Backup, due out in October
nnouncing BACKUP by Jim Butcher — a New Dresden Files Story
Let’s get something clear right up front.
I’m not Harry Dresden.
Harry’s a wizard. A genuine, honest-to-goodness wizard. He’s Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He’ll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences–and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being.
I’ll be damned if I know how.
But then, I’ll be damned regardless.
My name is Thomas Raith, and I’m a monster.
So begins Backup a twelve thousand word novelette set in Jim Butcher’s ultra-popular Dresden Files series. This time Harry’s in trouble he knows nothing about, and it’s up to his big brother Thomas to track him down and solve those little life-threatening difficulties without his little brother even noticing.
Backup will be available via Subterranean Press

I confess to getting the fancy signed limited edition of Backup

it sold out in about ....48 hours, I think? I mean, come on, it's narrated by Thomas. Can't wait for Oct. We also have the hardcover edition of Welcome to the Jungle in Oct
I wished we'd get more word on James doing the missing books.

Oh,lucky you...I only get paperbacks and audiobooks.
Is this the part where I start reassuring you that they put out an audiobook once a year...in the spring. And we never get to hear anything about it till around Dec?
But you know neither the Buzzy ladies or the other publisher is ever going to "drop James" and substitute another reader. And James has said he likes to do them and would do them in the future if asked. So, since they take such a short time to do...I'm sure something can and will be worked out.

I think Penguin could cause problems tho. They are putting all the Alera books, Jim's other fantasy series out pretty fast, like 5 in a little over a year. They are at least using a decent reader for those also. It's all she does and as readers go she's top class but not James. I just hope they don't get ansy wanting to cash in on Small Favor's best seller status.

They drop James from the audiobooks and I think they will notice quite a difference in sales. Not that Jim Butcher doesn't have his own fan-base and not that the books aren't delicious on their own....but ...let's just say, I'm not worried that they are that clueless.

I hope you're right B. It would break my heart for James not to finish them. I hope Butcher kept enough control to say who narrates them.

May 21 2008, 02:40 AM
The immediate problem is that James will be tied up in the UK for the next 9 months. Still, that can't mean every single day....once he's into the project a bit,I'm sure they'll be able to work something out.

May 21 2008, 04:46 AM
You know, 9 months is an awfully long time to be on set for a movie. I wonder how long before he breaks and hints what's going on?
Berengaria
May 21 2008, 09:00 AM
He would have "blabbed" at Fangoria but they cancelled it. Certainly hope they aren't going to make us wait til DragonCon to find out!
Guessing is ranging from The Hobbit to King Lear with Anthony Hopkins!

I got a nice surprise this morning, it would have been nicer had they not woken me up but my replacements for the Small Favor that came missing a disc came this morning
Berengaria
May 23 2008, 05:03 PM
Glad to hear that,Vin. I think Small Favor is my favorite one yet.
And,of course, we now know James' movie is Moonshot and is being filmed in Lithuania. Starts June 3rd. And since he still thinks he can make it to DragonCon (so far anyway)....maybe he needs to be available 9 months but with breaks. Thereby making another audiobook possible.

Here's a bit of hot off the press news (thanks to Ruadh who saw JB at a Con very recently)
Jim Butcher ... mentioned James, saying that Penguin wants James to record the Dresden books between Grave Peril and Small Favor but it all depends on James' availability.
Jim also mentioned that he literally just finished the 5th Codex Alera book at 5 am this morning in the hotel.

OMG!!!! I only hope James has time soon. I'd love for them to come out fast. The back Codec Alera are all coming out really fast. I'm so happy. Veyr little makes me happier than James reading those books

I've gotten more time and joy out of those than almost anything else ever, maybe only being beat by Farscape. ANd wow, I just realized Jim misspoke, James has done up to Summer Knight. I really want to hear Dead Beat!!!

While I love, and share your enthusiasm for these audiobooks, I think we have this discussion every year. Here (from Jim Butcher's site) is the info on the release date for Turn Coat, the next in the Dresden series (they are only talking about the book thus far, but last year it was released the same time as the audio):
Book 11 of the Dresden Files
The Warden Morgan has been accused of treason against the Wizards of the White Council--and there's only one, final punishment for that crime. He's on the run, wants his name cleared, and needs someone with a knack for backing the underdog. Someone like Harry Dresden.
Now, Harry must uncover a traitor within the Council, keep a less-than-agreeable Morgan under wraps, and avoid coming under scrutiny himself. And a single mistake may cost someone his head--someone like Harry.
To be released in hardcover from Roc publishing, April 2009.

Yeah, B

I know, every year I get real ansy this time waiting for someone to tell us something is in the works. It's just these book are the most bang for the buck JM wise. Better than 10 hours of James doing 100 voices. I have to say it's my favorite thing he does

What I wonder about is whether there will ever come a time when we'll get 2 books....Penguin seems to be on track for doing Jim's NEXT book in April...but what about Dead Beat? Isn't that the one that should have been next in line...maybe the Buzzy ladies will one day go back and commission that one.

I don't understand what is going on. I know Penguin has fast tracked the 4 back books for the Codex Alera series and I know Dresdan is more popular than that. I was hoping, if it wasn't the buzzy ladies doing it at least we'd get the back book faster but I hear nothing

we're missing:
Death Masks
Blood Rites
Dead Beat
Proven Guilty
White Night|

Holey Moley! James is going to be doing a LOT of reading!
At long last, we have the details for the remaining Dresden Files audio books!
Fans of the previous audio books will be thrilled to learn James Marsters has been signed to read the audios of
DEATH MASKS
BLOOD RITES
DEAD BEAT
PROVEN GUILTY
WHITE NIGHT
and
TURN COAT
Although our release dates are tentative/subject to change, the plan is to release the audios of PROVEN GUILTY, WHITE NIGHT, and TURN COAT simultaneous with the hardcover of TURN COAT in April 2009.
The audio of DEATH MASKS would be released simultaneous with our hardcover reissue in November 2009, while the audios of BLOOD RITES and DEAD BEAT would be released simultaneous with our hardcover reissue of BLOOD RITES in July 2010.

Buzzy Multimedia announces they have obtained the rights to offer the Hurog series by bestselling author Patricia Briggs.
Greensboro, NC (PRWEB) March 18, 2008 -- Buzzy Multimedia, a publisher of sci-fi and fantasy audio books, has obtained the rights to record the Hurog Duology by bestselling author Patricia Briggs. The series includes the popular titles of "Dragon Bones" and "Dragon Blood." The release dates and chosen narrator will be announced at a later time.
"Patricia Briggs has a lot of fans, and they have been waiting for the audio versions of these books," explains June Williams, vice president and co-founder of Buzzy Multimedia. "We are excited to be the ones that will bring it to them. We are thrilled to have obtained these rights and look forward to a long-lasting relationship with Patricia and her fans."
The word Hurog means dragon. In the "Dragon Bones" and "Dragon Blood" titles it is also the name given to the land and its people that have been living under a curse. Briggs, a New York Times bestselling author, is an award-winning fantasy author. Her first published hardback was "Bone Crossed." She is also the author of urban fantasy books, as well as the "Mercy Thompson" series.

Conspiracy Entertainment’s Real Heroes: Firefighter Game
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Conspiracy Entertainment Holdings, Inc. ("Conspiracy Entertainment") (OTCBB: CPYE), a developer, publisher and marketer of interactive entertainment software in North America and Western Europe, is pleased to announce that the launch in August of its “Real Heroes: Firefighter” game for Wii™ has been a successful launch thus far. Rated E10+, the game challenges children and adults with its mix of firefighting and problem-solving game play.
Developed by Epicenter Studios, "Real Heroes: Firefighter" emphasizes non-violent, game-integral puzzles and challenges that mirror the on-the-fly choices firefighters face every day. Featuring Epicenter's proprietary "Thinking Fire" technology, blazes will seem almost alive as they not only attack structures, potential victims and firefighters, but also cause unexpected changes to the environments that will suddenly alter the player's options and strategies. No two scenarios will play out the same way in "Real Heroes: Firefighter."
“The launch of ‘Real Heroes: Firefighter’ has exceeded our expectations and we expect to see continued demand for the game into the holiday season,” commented Sirus Ahmadi, CEO of Conspiracy Entertainment. “Our first project with Epicenter Studios could not have turned out any better and we look forward to building upon this relationship with future projects."
A cast of voice actors were used for the game; actors including James Marsters, known to many as “Spike” from the cult-classic TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, Michael Jace, known as Officer Julien Lowe from the hit TV series, “The Shield”, actor and comedian Jamie Kennedy, and Jenette Goldstein, best known for her role as Private Vasquez in the classic film “Aliens”.

Know what's funny? He told the crowd in London this month that he loves doing the Dresden books but he thinks he just recorded the last one. He thinks Jim Butcher has moved on to other projects.
Last I heard Jim said he was doing about 20 Dresden Files...so I think James is just finished for now. I'm sure he will be called on in future to finish out the series.

Yeah, Jim has always said 20 plus an Apocalyptic Trilogy so 23 total. I can't imagine them without James reading....I mean, really! As Dresdan is a NYT #1 best seller there is no way they won't be doing audios with the book release. God I hope he's wrong.
