Wow, great ep. I was worried Catherine Tate wasn't going to have the acting chops but she really came thru this ep. I love she thinks nothing of standing up to the Doctor, I think I've finally realized that is what I missed about Rose going from Nine to Ten. CE she would stand up to, once Ten hit they were too much in lurve for Rose to really stand up him. But I have to say Donna Nobel is better at it. Give him a hard time girl.

Other than Donna, the ep itself is outstanding! Special effects for way beyond the usual Doctor Who. All the acting was outstanding. I felt so Bad for the Doctor when he realized he had to kill all those peopls and Wow for Donna supporting him thru it! Loved the son being a lay-about. I was kind of hoping they would take him with them.

really good ep grin.gif

This episode definitely benefitted from being shot in Rome! The street scenes were very good - good use of budget!

I'm not too enamoured with Donna though. I like how she stands up to the Doctor, and I like the charater per se, but she slurs her speech too much. Some times I just can't tell what she's saying! And if she fails to finish a word properly too many times, I may kick in my TV set! Pronounce the full word, not just the first half mad.gif

(Pet hate of mine wink.gif lol.gif )

That said, the ep itself was good. It was sensitive to the fact that Pompeii was real - these people really did die (brought home during the Confidential, when DT visited the real Pompeii). And the Doctor's choice - rock and a hard place springs to mind - was a terrible choice to make. He was also, effectively, choosing to die, as he hadn't expected to survive the eruption.

I liked how Donna woke up his compassion so he saved the family. Although it must have been hard leaving anyone behind, walking past the family and ignoring their pleas for help - shows just how inhuman he is, at times.

I can not beleive YOU said this jawdrop.gif lol.gif I agree she's hard to understand. One of the ads at the beginning of every show on BBCa makes a point of saying, we talk weird, turn on your closed caption lol.gif

'The Fires Of Pompeii' is a good episode. It was shocking to see that it was the Doctor who cause it to happen. He did it to save the human race. It was also nice that he manage to save his host family. someone have to survive it to tell other people about what has happen there.
