"The Doctor is trapped, powerless and terrified, on the planet Midnight, as the knocking on the wall begins..."

Hmmm... Not sure what I think about this.

It was interesting to see the Doctor so powerless for a change - his usual speeches didn't have the usual effect on people and he really was powerless when they turned on him, and wouldn't listen. He also sounded really arrogant at times - or more like a child that couldn't understand why "because I'm clever" wasn't a good enough answer to persuade people to his way of thinking.

Scary how close he came to being killed.

And a little teaser that Rose popped up on the screen, obviously calling him.

But the episode didn't scare me (or Pip) as I think it was intended to. It was missing something, somehow...

I actually really enjoyed it. The voicework wasn;t so much scary as very disturbing. The big thing was seeing the Doctor so very scared. THAT was very disturbing. Having his words turned against him.

I thought the concepts of people going into mob-mentality was well done if not very subtle.

I really really wish we could have Donna for more than this year bawl.gif her leaving is gonna really rip my heart out. I honestly like her better than any other companion. I really get The Doctor's joy at showing her stuff and having her with him to challenge him. When he was trying to talk her into going on the trip he was so cute lol.gif then befriending every person on the shuttle. It worked well with the plot that the shuttle people would turn on a person that they knew and seemed to like only moments earlier. Perfect also that no one, not even the Doctor could remember the name of the hostess who saved their lives.

I really liked it.

I wasn't expecting much from the episode, but really enjoyed almost all of it.

Only a few times ddi I think the dialog and acting slip or remind me it was television.

And thankfully little Catherine Tate in this one.

I rewatched. And I do like the episode. It's very clever - very realistic as well, with respect to the mob mentality. And that is scary!

I still thiank it's missing an undefinable something though. Maybe I just miss not having a companion by the Doctors side, for him to bounce off of? Or maybe it was because Pip got so bored with this episode? I've never seen her bored with Doctor Who before eek.gif

You don't like Cathrine Tate? jawdrop.gif I really didn't think I would, I was SURE I was going to hate her but surprisingly enough, I adore her more than the others.

Spook~ I rewatched while I was having the tires changed on the horse trailer. There was a lot of really great things in this one.

First, again the obligatory gay person sad.gif

Ladies and Gentlemen and variation there-of lol.gif I did have trouble with earthling on this pleasure planet, Jethro's parents talked about a alien in their beach story, why would it matter to them the Doctor wasn't human? They keep bringing up the Doctor's name. I wonder if we'll find out?

The doctor cutting off all the entertainment so everyone could interact. I loved the looks on everyone's faces. Sky was happy as was the professor, the kid was OK with it. The only one's upset were the kids parents. The kid was great. He was the best other than the Doctor at pure observing. Then Dee Dee. Everyone else simply rode what the knew as "fact" or ran with rumor. The Professor acted on what he "knew" as fact in face of observable evidence otherwise. Jethro's parents and Sky were completely driven by rumor.

The Doctor told the creature/Sky he was the one to target. He said basically, I can keep her contained, I am the clever one, he set himself up eek.gif

I wonder if the creature died after it got sucked back outside now that it had a body that would die. I wonder what the plan was? If there are more of them.

I guess that not defining the alien that took over Sky was meant to be the scary bit. The fact that we don't know, makes us keep wondering and adds to the danger (if you want to think long-term and pretend DW is totally real wink.gif)

At the end, the Doctor and Donna did discuss that the Doctor was going to advice that the planet be left alone though? So maybe the thinking is that the creature is still alive.

As for Donna... she's growing on me, and I do like her. But when I think on it, she also still irritates me. I like her when she's being funny and assertive, but I don't like the softer side of her, the emotional side. I prefer Martha Jones to Donna. But I am still fighting the Catherine Tate thing. The majority of letters etc from fans that I've seen in mags and newspapers all hate her... but the critics like her. I guess she'll never win! lol.gif

It's taken a long time for me to get around to watching this episode, but I liked it a lot. I think any show that can be interesting with only a tiny room for a set for the whole episode is doing a good job.

This episode had just the right level of creepiness for me, although my creepy threshold is much lower than most peoples' is. I agree about how good the mob mentality part was, and how it was an interesting turnaround to see The Doctor so powerless.

I'd love to see Dee Dee as a companion. There could be a lot of good character development for her.
