Grey's Anatomy Show Description for Season 5
QUOTE
Grey's Anatomy
(Season premiere Thursday, September 25, 9:00-11:00 p.m., ET)
Recipient of the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Television Series and multiple Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series for the past two years, "Grey's Anatomy" returns to the ABC Television Network for its fifth season.
Is "happily ever after" possible for Meredith Grey and Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd? With Meredith experiencing a breakthrough in therapy - the realization that she and Derek can be extraordinary together, rather than ordinary apart -- she and Derek now face the highs and lows of being a committed couple.
Continuing their first year as residents at Seattle Grace Hospital, Meredith, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev have interns of their own to mentor, including Meredith's half-sister, Lexie Grey. Lexie has become a roommate and confidante to George O'Malley, who, after divorce with Callie, a breakup with Izzie, and learning that he failed his residency test by only one point, is striving to get both his professional and personal life back on track.
After attending to his girlfriend Rebecca's mental illness on his own, and revealing that he had gone through this with his own mother, Alex finds solace in Izzie's arms. Alex must continue through this difficult time, whether or not Izzie remains by his side.
Cristina, having finally won out over her tough-as-nails mentor, Erica, is back on track as a surgeon - but is there a chance for new love in her life as well?
With the encouragement of Mark "McSteamy" Sloan, Dr. Callie Torres has taken a chance on love with cardiothoracic surgeon, Erica Hahn; now, she and Erica must figure out what happens after the first kiss.
Overseeing the residents is the no-nonsense Chief Resident, Miranda Bailey. Facing marital troubles and the difficulty of balancing her work and personal life, Bailey has handed her responsibilities as head of the free clinic over to Izzie. Also striving for balance is Chief of Surgery, Richard Webber, who has reunited with his estranged wife, Adele.
The doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis - it's in one another that they find comfort, friendship and love. Together they're discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.
"Grey's Anatomy" stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Patrick Dempsey as Derek Shepherd, Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Katherine Heigl as Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, T.R. Knight as George O'Malley, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens, Jr. as Richard Webber, Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Mark Sloan, Chyler Leigh as Lexie Grey, and Brooke Smith as Erica Hahn.
"Grey's Anatomy" was created and is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes ("Introducing Dorothy Dandridge"). Betsy Beers ("Casanova"), Mark Gordon ("Saving Private Ryan"), Krista Vernoff ("Law & Order"), Rob Corn ("Chicago Hope"), Mark Wilding ("Jake: 2.0") and Allan Heinberg ("The O.C.) are executive producers. "Grey's Anatomy" is an ABC Studios production.

I would start watching Grey's again if the speculation about Hannah is the big lovestory for Izzie turns out to be true. Honestly I only watched Grey's on/off since mid S3 when Shonda went into the cliche plot of best friend fall for each other like every TV show had done and sorry to say I don't like the character Izzie has become in S3, the constant 'George' here and 'George' there Izzie, following George around like a love-sick puppy.
I understand in S4 that George didn't want to make their relationship work in the end, in another word, Izzie get dumped yet again. The Izzie of S3 was all about 'George' and less about her, professionally. I like what I saw in S4 finale. I want more of that Izzie, all strong and determined to get Alex to back off and get Ava the proper medical help, no matter how he resisted, no matter the hurtful 'name' he thrown at her, she stood her ground because she's a doctor first she put her personal feeling aside this time around which is a postive developement for Izzie and hope it would continue into S5 but then it's all up to Shonda, she seems to say one thing and yet do the other.
I know that some GA fans used to and still complaining that Alex backstory was the least explore in the show some part is true but I think we know about his background much more than we know about Izzie's. We've has been told by Alex himself that has a musician father and he is a wife beater, that Alex took in boxing and beat his father and never see his father again since then. He practically raised in a bar and in S4 we came to know the young Alex personally took care of his sick mum but failed somehow? and from here we could understand that must be the reason why he chose medicine.
It's Izzie's past life that we stll don't know much about other than she has estrange relationship with
her mum, why? we didnt know, she too has a hard life and worked as waitress and modelling to support herself to further her studies and having and giving up Hannah at 16 for adoption. But that's about all but who fathered Izzie? Where is he? we never heard of Izzie mentioning her father had we? Does she even know him? Why does Izzie chose medicine? I hope Shonda would touch on that too in the future.
The only backstory truly explored were Meredith and George, not Derek but George. We even get to see their parents and siblings. It makes me think that the lead characters in the show are actually Meredith and George. There were by far more of Meredith and George arc storyline than other characters. Cristina even Callie came in 3rd and 4th respectively and Callie was only introduced mid S2. We even saw Cristina's mum and Callie's dad but never Izzie's , Alex's and Derek's but at least for Derek, his sister did make an appearance. We have yet to see Izzie's or Alex's parent/parents.
I definitely think it will be an interesting season for Izzie
Well that is a shame - fans always like those. They should release stills from the commercial shoot or something
