Josh Groban was so good with the medley of tv theme songs he did. I can see why you are such a fan WB.

I adore him. He really has a great sense of humor and has done theater...so it all came through in that.

Wild and I were so hard.

It is really frosting me that someone who won for best writing and now Tom Hanks have started to make interesting remarks....and what happens??? Music comes up loud, cuts them off and a voice-over tells us that the award for best reality show host is coming up next....Who cares??? Show some darn class.

The show has had it's moments. I don't watch some of the shows nominated though.

I didn’t like this ep of True Blood. What everyone else think? The show is getting weird – well, weirder. Vin, is the tv show true to the books? There is hardly any time for plot development with all the ...uh...”cementing” and drugs and stuff going on in the eps. I think True Blood is becoming an HBO Real Sex wannabe clone. It’s not that I’m against the “cementing,” but when it’s ubiquitous, it ceases to be interesting or compelling IMO.

Lori, yep, I'm taping True Blood for you. I was going to tape 2 more eps (in addition to the 3 I have) and then mail you the tape. Can you wait or is your curiosity so piqued that you want me to send it to you now?




Vin, thanks for not posting Emmy spoilers. And, yep, they shouldn’t bother hiring a costume designer for Jason – he never wears clothes! I am beginning not to like the actress who plays Tara; she’s starting to annoy me.


I’m catching up on the good part of E!’s record carpet coverage. I just saw David Boreanez’s interview. Awww, David is such a sweetie, so cute – and gotta love his socks. . ..It’s also interesting watching Ryan Seacret's interviews to gauge his height. He’s a dwarf compared to Brook Shields, who, truth be known, is an Amazon, but he towered over the actor who plays “Turtle” on Entourage (I forget his name). So “Turtle" must be a Hobbit or a troll in size. ....I like the “glamstrator” feature on E! that they are using to describe the dresses in designer detail. Lee Pace of Pushing Daisies is adorable. Lori, he's from Houston - a cute Texas guy.

Berry, I think producers/directors of award shows started a bad trend when they cut off Frank Sinatra mid comment at the Grammys many years ago. ....You want the award shows to have some class? I don’t think that’s going to happen any time soon.

B has Danny S been up yet?

Danny is not in attendance. He did not win in the writing category. But Recount won as Best Made for tv move so that has to thrill him.

Tek~ They are following the general plot sorta for True Blood but they are adding a bunch of crap I don't think it needs. This ep was almost all added stuff. In the books, Jason is a horndog but Sookie stays out of his mind and so you never get details. Lafayette is in the books and that is sorta how I saw his character but he's barely in book 1 and he certainly wasn't a drug pusher. Tara was barely in book 1 and this is not her character at all, she never slept with Sam, or even worked with him. She has a small clothing store in the books. I really like the books better. This has too much sex, it's getting in the way of the story.

Dang, that would have been cool for him to win his first time out At least teh show got recognized.

Craig Ferguson is as tall as Brook Shields, that is surprising.

Vin, that's how I feel. ....Were you confused as to who owns the doggie? Every time I see the doggie, I am so blown away at how clean and how "just done" he looks. He must have his personal "fur-dresser" who is armed with a blow dryer to keep his fur all flurry and puffed up. ....I think the 2 characters I like the best are Lois Smith as grandma and Stephen Moyer as Bill. Is Stephen playing Bill close to how he's described in the book? ...Speaking of short, I have a feeling that Stephen is not that tall - unless Anna Paquin is tall. She tends to wear flats in her scenes with him and is still nearly as tall as he is.

Bryan Cranston is nominated for his show Breaking Bad which is really good and he's fabulous in his role.

So who looked great on the red carpet and who looked terrible?

the Emmys just started here in LA. In 3 hours I can go back and read all the spoiler font posts.

Tek~ I thought the Dog was a very unsubtle lead up to something but then they threw it out of the water Do you want to be spoiled?? I think I know what they are doing. I need to check the other eps.

Richard~ I got a new camera today. It's a SLR digital. I haven't had one of those. I had a nice point and shoot. It's the Cannon XSi 12 MP. Now I need to figure out how to use it before the trip. I guess I can play with it while we are on the boat.

OK, Vin, spoil me. (Knowing my memory these days, I'll probably forget what you tell me anyway.) I guess he's not just an ordinary dog, right? ....The way the doggie keeps popping up, lurking and stuff, getting lots of closeups, you get the subtle feeling that he's a spirit or a reincarnation or something else unworldy; besides, for a doggie that is running around the back woods, it's - pardon the pun - uncanny how fluffy and clean he is. ...Have you seen the upcoming eps already? Just tell me that I'm going to get more Bill, lots more Bill.

Tek~ In the books you find out fairly early that not only are Vamps a myth come true but there are also other supernatural beings. The others just haven't "come out of the closet" yet. Sam is a shifter, he can actually change into any animal but he prefers a Collie dog because people aren't scared of them. Sookie doesn't know at the beginning of the books. She can still hear Shifters {can change into any animal} and Weres {can change into only one animal, like a Werewolf} but not as well as humans.

What was confusing was Sam left Tara at the Bar in the first ep and then the next scene you saw the dog with Sookie when she first talking outside to Bill. Then other times the dog has been watching over Sookie. There is a pic of a collie dog in Sam's office. The they had Sam backing in his sleep when he was with Tara, She even said he made dog noises. Now they have a scene with Sam PLAYING with a collie dog??? I'm guessing it's not the same dog just to throw the readers off. I'll have to look back at the other eps and look closely at the dog.

On Bill~ I think he looks like he was described in the books but for some reason he still doesn't "feel" like the Bill in the books for me. Next week they have Eric I adore Eric!!

Vin, thanks for the interesting comments about True Blood. I think I like the way Stephen Moyer is playing Bill. Is his interpretation of Bill consistent with the book? Bill seems to be the most interesting and conflicted character who is tortured by the fact that he's a vamp.

Emmy thought: whoever came up with the idea to have reality show hosts be the MCs for the Emmys.... Not the best choice in hosts. ....Sorry to get political, but I sure liked what Tommy Smothers said in his acceptance speech.

Oh, Josh Groban is on now - I think he and Steve Martin's intro have been the best things on the Emmy show so far, well them and Tommy Smothers.

OK, seriously, were the Emmy's produced by a Highschool AV class this year? The whole thing felt totally rushed and unplanned.

I agree with most of what you all are saying. Josh Groban was great. I'm not actually a fan of his, but that performance could almost make me one. Steve Carrell has the most amazing ability to keep a straight face. I loved the annoucement of the Reality TV host. Jimmy Kimmel is so funny!

As for cutting off the speeches, this is an unpopular opinion, but I sort of figure that at this point, people know that they should keep the speech short if they don't want to get cut off. However, I do think that the producers should plan to know that people are going to go overtime, and allow for it.

I am now officially on vacation! I just finished my last bit of work I have to do. Now I just have to pack. We fly out tomorrow morning (Yea!)

The Tommy Smother's thing was great!

Tek~ Bill isn't particularly conflicted about being a Vamp in the books. I don't think that is what Moyer is trying for here. I think he's trying to play Bill as someone who has sort of forgotten how to be completely human and is trying to "mainstream" now. The reticence you see in his character is his memory of being human is from another time and him partly trying to play human to be accepted. That is one thing I love about the Sookie books. No Vamp angst, no girl angst at having to keep the-big-secret "my love is a vampire"!!! The Vamps are dangerous and people see that culture risky but they aren't angsty about it.

I feel the same way, VG. ....Yep, the Emmys have been less that compelling. The sad fact is that there are very few good awards shows, yet we continue to watch them.

Garry Owens & Ruth Buzzi from Laugh In look great; I haven’t seen them in a long time. I wonder why Henry Gibson wasn’t on the Laugh In wall, too. He’s still around; doesn’t he have a running role in Boston Legal? Lily Tomlin looks good, too, but I've seen her a lot; she’s been on TV steadily since Laugh In went off the air. ....Boy, it seems the way to an Emmy nomination in comedy is to guest on 30 Rock. I think 80% of the nominees were on that show. ...Hey, congrats on finally being on vacation. I forgot (what else is new) where you are going.

Vin, one of my favorite scenes is where Bill kisses Sookie and his fangs come out. Unless I was projecting, you could see that it was an awkward moment for him, that he was appalled that he couldn’t or didn’t control their appearance and that his “inadvertent fanging” caused Sookie to recoil from the kiss. ....I also like the way he “cleaned up” the blood from Sookie’s face... . .....Y’know, I would like a continuity director to decide once and for all how to pronounce Sookie’s name. We’ve heard Sookie pronounced by characters in the show as “bookie,” “lucky” (which makes her name sound like Sucky) and Sooooohky. ....Ya gotta love Tommy Smothers.

As for Danny Strong's Recount, WTG Danny for writing such a good movie that won so many Emmys. ..... That you didn't win for your writing.

Tek, I don't know that I ever said where I was going- Vegas. I'm excited, I've never been, and I need a really relaxing vacation where I'm not running around trying to do tons of stuff. I plan to plop down at the first slot machine I see and sit there until it's time to come home.

VG, be prepared to have your eyes go in Las Vegas. There is so much to see there. Hopefully, you'll check out a lot of the casinos; it's an experience just to see them. I personally think Las Vegas is like Disneyland for adults. Also hopefully, you'll get to see a show or two while you're in Las Vegas. There are some really spectacular shows to see there. Have a great time! ....BTW, most of the casinos don't have slots that give you coins when you win. I really miss having coins fall into the money trough when you win.

Don Rickles may be frail physically, but mentally he's sharp as a tack. It was nice to see him on the Emmys.

Tek~ So far, most all the scenes with Bill and Sookie have been straight from the book. They embellished the visit when he came calling. It was just her and her Grandmother in the books. I think Bill was more concerned his fanging out and loss of control would scared her away. Where they are adding stuff is all the detail with Jason. He does screw those girls but as the books are all first person from Sookie's point of view and she makes a point to not listen to her brother's antics you never get details. All the Tara stuff is fabricated. In the first book her best friend in the bar is Arlene and we haven't even seen her in since the first ep. Sam does have a thing for Sookie but he doesn't really act on it much. In the books in general we see a whole lot of Andy Beflour. The scenes with the grandmother are straight from the books.

Vin, thanks for that info about True Blood. ...I wouldn't mind if they just did way with Tara. Her cousin, Lafayette is fine; I'm just bored with her. ...Maybe they beefed up Sam's role because they like the actor who plays him? ....Do you basically know where the eps are going - maybe from spoilers, etc - or are you surprised by scenes or plot embellishments that aren't in the book?

I think we are going to go see a couple shows, possibly a Cirque one. I was warned about the receipts that come out of the slot machines. I'm originally from New Jersey, and spent a lot of time in Atlantic City as a kid, so I think the clang clang is part of the experience. I think I will miss that as well.

VG, I saw Cirque's Mystere and was knocked out by it. (Plus, a snippet of it is in Knocked Up.) Cirque's Eau is also supposed to be spectacular; I haven't seen it yet. ......<<<sigh>>> Where's the fun of getting your hands dirty from picking up the coins that drop from the slot machines And the sound of the clattering coins? Dang, there's a whole generation of people who will never know that excitement and fun.

I'm off to make myself a cuppa cocoa.

Visited Jen today and watched the extra clips on Private Practice season 1 DVD's they were great, especially Kate's life as a struggling actress.

Pip and I were very generously treated to Ka when we were in Vegas. It totally and utterly blew me away. I don't think I will ever see anything that good ever again! Cirque are coming to my home city in a few months time, and Pip wants to go... Her eyes really lit up when she saw the advert for it, and began to enthuse and reminisce. I don't think I can afford to take her though I cannot thank the person that purchased our tickets in Vegas enough for that generosity!

All. Can't stop... Had an awful weekend with Pip. (It's not easy living with someone so full of anger, that directs it at the only other person in the house...). And then had an awful morning here at work. Not feeling very chatty as a result

di m, I'm so glad there's another reality junkie on the board! I think it's a shame that Amazing Race wins every year, but Phil Koegen wasn't nominated. Meanwhile, Heidi Klum was. I wish the only woman in the category would have represented a little bit better.
