Someone I know went to see Love's Labour's Lost at the RSC. They went to the performance done by the understudy cast - where David Tennant took on a small role instead of his starring part.
One of the understudies was ill, so DT also took his role - preforming two minor roles in the play. At the curtain call, he stood back and let all the main actors have their moment taking the applause, not coming to the front of the stage at all.
How

that such a big name is willing to understudy and understudy - and not steal the limelight

David is really

like that.
I saw LLL on Halloween and after the play there was a talk back session with the cast and assistant director. At first they said that David won't be able to make it since his father had been in the audience that day. Everyone knows how close they are, so it was only understandably that David wouldn't want to hurry to meet his dad.
Few minutes into the session, someone in a white Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie sneaked up on stage and sat down quietly next to his co-stars on the stage (the other chairs on stage were all taken at that point). No big entrance, nothing. He just quietly walked on stage and sat down. When the audience asked questions, he let his co-stars answer first before adding his own opinion (or not) and when the assistant director (who acted as some kind of host) to free her seat, David usher one of his co-stars (a girl who played a minor role) to take the seat and remained sitting on a cushion on the floor.

He's such a lovely man!

MajaBee I can only agree!
I saw LLL on the same day and I was blown away by all of it. I mean, David on stage is a sight to behold (remember how that one woman just took his hand?) but everything else showed you even more what a wonderful, wonderful man he is.
I spend the rest of the weekend in Stratford and, because David didn't come to the stage door on Halloween, I thought I'd try my luck the next day after the Hamlet performance (I didn't have tickets ...) but I arrived early, misjudging the length of the play (actually, stupid me arrived during the BREAK xD) I sat in the café to wait for it to end when suddenly the assistant director, the one acting as a host the night before, appeared infront of me and asked:
"Aren't you going to come back in?"
And I told her I didn't have a ticket and she look left, right left, checked that no one was there and, believe it or not, LET ME WATCH THE SECOND HALF OF HAMLET JUST LIKE THAT!
Shows just again what kind of brilliantly awesome people work with David as well *swoons*
On New Years Eve, though, I learned that Patrick Steward can be such a diva *giggles* Had a little talk with him after Hamlet (sadly, without David ...)

Distel, I feel a little stalked by you. *bwahaha* Just kidding.

I'm so glad I gave myself that little push back in April last year and decided to go and see David. I'm also so glad I was fortunate enough to get tickets for both LLL and Hamlet. Truly an experience of a lifetime.
Oh and you'll never hear me say one bad word about Patrick Stewart after he (probably) caught me doing something "naughty". I just know that I - and my friends who were with me - absolutely DIED when he STOPPED doing his soliloquy and looked RIGHT at me (and my camera) and we were all expecting him to start yelling at me! He didn't... he just continued after a moment. *phew*

Don't ever try filming John Barrowman! He leaves the stage and tells you off

Oh I can put that to a test in June when I go see the Barrowman in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Yeah I was pretty sure I'd go down in fandom (and RSC) history as the girl who got told off by Patrick Stewart ON STAGE to stop filming.

Most frightening moment in my whole life.

And I still don't know if he just paused for a dramatic moment or because he had forgotten the next line and just happened to gaze in my direction or if he actually saw me and the camera and was considering telling me off or not.

Anyway, I did not dare to say anything but a heart-felt THANK YOU to him afterwards at the stage door... I was still too scared he'd recognize me.

I'm guessing if he saw you, someone from Front of House would have come to confiscate the camera and delete images from it. It really is a naughty thing to do

Just to clarify: I didn't film or take pictures from any of the plays and what I filmed is for my own personal viewing pleasure only. Sorry fangirls.
