So two residents will get to scrub in on the solo surgery. That should be make things a tad interesting.

Izzie's sneak peek is priceless lmao.gif. Gawd, how I missed Katherine and Jeff's comedic interaction smile.gif. Plus sounds like we will finally get some Gizzie scenes(i.e. we haven't had one since 5.04 "Brave New World"). Unless, looking at the new promo, Izzie will be preoccupied with Denny in the on-call room thud.gif. I have some ideas on where this Denny/Izzie/Alex triangle could be heading, but one thing is for sure it's very entertaining nod.gif lol.gif.

I wonder when Izzie is going to tell Alex she has been seeing Denny. Though I can understand her not saying anything because she might be scared of Alex's reaction since he been through a lot of crazy in his life dealing with his mother and Rebecca, and he might want to have Izzie committed lol.
TVR
Love that clip smile.gif Whether you love or hate the premise, Katie is doing such a fantastic job with this storyline.

If you look at the promo while there is a flash, about five scenes are in that flash but it goes very quickly. I think one of them is a Lexie/Mark kiss. nod.gif It's hard to catch, so I made a little screencap! Click here. Are my eyes deceiving me, or? Colour me excited for Thursday!

Definitely looks that way from the cap...eagle eyes smile.gif

ITA nod.gif. You know if you put the volume up on Izzie's sneak peek at the end you can hear Izzie tell Denny "stop that" when he's finger pointing at Alex lmao.gif. Wonder if that was improve by Katherine. Alas, it's cute funny.

It's definitely looks like McSteamy and Lexie to me nod.gif. They've been foreshadowing and building them up for a while now, and looks like it finally gets to the climax next Thursday. When you watch the 2nd ABC Promo they show Lexie undressing in front of Mark, and it looks like it could be at Mark's hotel room shrug.gif.

Even though we seen some of the shots in the sneak peeks lol look.gif. You can see a few more scenes of Izzie to Owen/Cristina in the boiler room in this slow-motion version of the montage in the first ABC Promo:

Most of the peeks are pretty boring except for the last one smile.gif. I like how Denny comes in and out of sitting on the couch next to Izzie lol.gif, and dude check out the annoyed-rolleyes look Izzie does when Alex calls Lexie "Helen Keller". I ended up rolling my eyes at Alex's remark before Izzie did lol.

I am surprised it was the last episode of the year so early in December..quite a long wait for any new Grey's now.

I thought last night's episode was pretty decent, and you start to see the medical portion to Izzie's storyline in this episode. You can see just by watching Izzie her illness is increasing at a fast pace. According to the writer's blog two weeks passed since 5.09, and this past week Izzie hasn't been doing her job. She hasn't been at the clinic at all. Now we know this clinic means a lot to Izzie. This clinic is her pride and joy. She helped build it from the ground up with Bailey to the point it makes money now for SGH. It's her baby, and she's no longer working there since she is going more more into halluciations. Izzie clearly not thinking, just like in 5.08 she is in denial and doesn't want to think something is wrong with her, and her perception and judgement are almost gone. She's at the point where she can't take herself out of her own "episodes" now. It took Alex to serve as a reality check to get her back into reality again. When Izzie came in to scrub with Alex, which I loved, that felt like normal Izzie again for that brief moment. Another symptom that increased is her talking to Denny, well not really Denny but her figment of imagination Denny, while other people are around. Throughout the episode, especially with George, Izzie is either constantly talking to Denny or looking at him which makes her eyes go everywhere. When you watch it Katherine, camera work, and the director did a great job because we are at the time where we know Denny is with her all the time, and when he isn't there on-screen we can still Izzie interacting with him by looking at him or gesturing to him. The way they presented reality vs. fantasy here was awesome. It was so cool. Plus Denny was a riot lol.gif. It's pretty obivious now that Izzie is medically sick and Izzie is too far gone to do something about it, but the only one that notices this odd behavior is George. Which I freakin' love love.gif.

It's great to see the return of Gizzie's friendship in a very heartfelt way. George knows Izzie like the back of his hand. He's so worried that talks to Meredith and Alex about it. Even though Meredith mentioned once to Alex in 5.09 what was up with Izzie there was no follow-up since after that comment Meredith's problems with Cristina kicked in. Meredith became self-aborb with her own problems, and she didn't even register what George was trying to tell her. She just shrugged it off. That said Meredith was completely in character because once Mer's problems arise her awareness of others decline.

With Alex in this episode it was a mixed, gray package to me. Though it's not a bad thing because having things gray and mixed makes storylines interesting for me. Alex's "I love You" speech to Izzie was well acted by Justin Chambers, and some lines I thought to be very sweet. It's just I'm starting to agree with a few reviewers that Alex has been lightswitched when he is with Izzie at times shrug.gif. For an example, when Alex said Izzie makes him be better/good I was bit irked because if that was the case he wouldn't have treated her like crap earlier this season and previous seasons. Maybe it was the wording of that line that irked me.

I also felt there was some forshadowing of a possible Sadie/Alex one-night stand fling. Sadie questioned Meredith about Alex, and noted how cool he was at Casa Interns. When any character, or person, asks what about another person in that way you know they are interested. Another thing GA always worked in opposites. For an example this season, Izzie's "I Care About You" speech to Alex in 5.05 is now taking place. She said she wouldn't go crazy or die, and well that is exactly happening. Izzie is going crazy(though medical-related) and probably has a good chance of dying. Going back to my point about opposites Alex said he wouldn't cheat, but yet we know an interested Sadie is in the wings. If Alex continues to self-delude himself about Izzie, then he could misread the signals(more like Izzie's symptoms) and sleep with Sadie. Shonda likes sleeping-with shock value, so this is one senerio I'm not ruling out until Sadie leaves SGH. I'll be surprised if this doesn't happen.

Alex is in complete denial of what is happening to Izzie, so much so his speech -- while it was heartfelt -- was completely self-centered on himself. He didn't bother asking why Izzie is acting odd, but rather assumed it was about him. He didn't bother asking why she hasn't been at the clinic which something he knows is dear to her heart. However, it is completely in character for Alex to be in denial. We saw this type of behavior with Alex last season with Ava/Rebecca. Where he didn't want to admit it until it was too late, and he lashed out(which he did to George in this episode). From a viewer POV it's kinda frustrating because you know Izzie isn't well, and know what happened to Ava. You want Alex to wake up and help Izzie not to be so caught-up in the love at the moment. One can interpret this that Alex is in love with Izzie, but he doesn't know her well enough yet(which is true because he still doesn't know about Hannah yet). I can see this storyline will enable Alex to know Izzie better, but I do think when it's all said and done it will make Alex and Izzie's relationship stronger(as well as the Fab 5, Gizzie, and hopefully we get some Bailey/Izzie action again). One thing is for sure this can't be waited on if Alex continues to be in denial and blinded by his love, so I'm glad George is very determined on helping Izzie. Hopefully in the next episode George confronts Izzie directly about it, but one thing is for sure once the reveal takes place the reaction of the Fab 5 is going to be interesting since the writers presented Izzie's symptoms to each of the Fab 5 now. See what I mean how Alex was a mixed bag look.gif.

We finally got some of the Fab 5 dymanic back again to a degree with everyone trying to get the solo surgery from Cristina except Izzie. George came off quite hot when he was stating his case to Cristina because he was just air of confidence lol. Each one of the Fab 5 coming to Cristina was completely in character to their funny quirks lol. Except, due to Izzie's obivious illness, her discussion with Cristina was far more Izzie. I mean it was Izzie due to her quirks, but how Izzie worded things and how Katherine portrayed the scene you can tell something was deeply wrong with Izzie. Even Izzie's laugh at the end of the scene wasn't like Izzie's normal laugh. It's hard to explain in text...it's just you knew from how Izzie was doing her mannerisms, what she was talking about, and her odd laughter that something was up. To Cristina she didn't even notice it, but was rather amused by it.

Mark/Lexie - My only disappointment was how Lexie did her stripping of "teach me" dialogue. They did have a good build-up since the premiere, so it's not like it came out of nowhere. It's that part of the dialogue was....eh shrug.gif.

At this point nothing else really stick out of my mind right now except Derek is losing a lot of patients recently. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to have a complex the moment Izzie's illness is revealed to everyone else at SGH. Like I said the episode was decent enough. Since I have low expections as it is I was entertained, and Izzie's storyline for me anyway is very intriguing.

I thought it was so cool how we went back and forth with Izzie's POV and Reality POV. I mean the Dizzie bed was so cute, but the writers showed a lot more of Izzie's symptoms of her illness moreso than any other episode in the first half of the season. Compared to what we saw of her in 5.08. This episode really emphasized Izzie's medical-related problem here. Izzie is really being succumb by her illness, whatever it may be, but you just know she is not well. Her behavior is far more odd than usual. Even her laughter with Cristina was off(great job by KH there). I thought it was pretty cool because the writers show every member of Fab 5 in the first half of this season incidents of Izzie's illness. It's right there, but only George notices. I can understand Alex not wanting to see it due to his love for his and his M.O. denial(he did the same with Ava), but hopefully he starts to agree with George because the longer they hold out on this without confronting Izzie the more harm she is in and the possibility of others around her.

Anyways, I thought how they did the talking was neato in this episode. For an example, when Izzie is talking to George at the clinic:

From Izzie's POV:
IPB Image

To what is actually happening:
IPB Image

I thought it was pretty cool that Katherine's head is in the same direction and has it tilted up in the same way in second cap since Denny is taller than her. They do it again when Gizzie was in the clinic, but sometimes we didn't see Denny in that whole scene. He popped in out because we were going back and forth quickly between Izzie's POV and Reality POV. So now we don't have to see him all the time on-screen, but Izzie still reacts by looking at him and gesturing to him when we are looking at the reality POV. Watch the scenes again and pay attention to Izzie's eye movements, gestures, and looking around. It's freakin' cool how perfectly it matches nod.gif.

Izzie did it again when the Fab 5 and all the residents were in the hall earlier in the episode:
IPB Image
Awww..don't they all look so cute lol.

After this shot my sister and I noticed Izzie gestured her head toward Denny to follow her elsewhere before George told her about clinic duties. That scene is pretty fast, but rewatch and keep your eye on Izzie during her scenes when Dizzie with another person or a group. Katherine is pretty awesome because she is acting the same manner when JDM is not on-screen to have both POVs match perfectly.

Another example was of course the bed scene:

Izzie's POV
IPB Image
I know he's not Denny(heck he's not even a ghost nor in spiritual form), but I have to *fangirl squeel*

What is actually happening:
IPB Image

She looks so cute here smile.gif, but also vulerable since we know what is happening to her. Her illness is getting worse and worse where she is going in and out all of the damn time, but now she is becoming more out of it. She can no longer control it to the point it's affecting her perception, judgement, and cogntive thinking. Just like Alex she is in her own state of denial where she doesn't want to think something is wrong with her(as she said in 5.08). I thought this episode really emphasized that Denny is not a ghost or a spirit, but a figment of Izzie's imagination brought upon by her illness. Granted it's something we already knew, but now the writers are now going into the medical territory of this storyline. That we aren't seeing Denny. That JDM is playing more of another version of his GA character.

Sorry, for the long ramble folks. When something I love is so damn compelling, interpretative, intriguing, and entertaining in not only acting but in some regards to the storytelling I love to ramble about it. But then you guys already knew that lol.
TVR
Ramble away smile.gif Thanks for the pics too. Whether you love or hate the story you can't escape from the fact that Katie is doing a brilliant job. She really has been fantastic. I am very interested in seeing how they handle the whole illness thing and the problem with her brain. I am really looking forward to how Katie plays it - as she shows Izzie's physical and mental decline. Also I wonder if we are going to see Derek operating on her?
Isabel Anne Evans
Overall, I think there would be some things I would have altered about the first half of Izzie's storyline. However, a lot of parts that are Dizzie-related I wouldn't want to alter too much because as a fangirl I've been dying to see them since S2 lol.gif thud.gif. One of the reasons I definitely love watching this storyline is the acting. It's just made of awesome.

We are gearing up for the medical portion in the second half, and I can't wait to see it since that will be a new stage in the storyline to watch. To see Katherine and everyone else's performance, the reactions of the Fab 5, Bailey, and etc. To see how they try to help her, support, and etc. Hoping for a lot of heartwarming, pull at the heart string scenes since these storylines are just made for them.

QUOTE
Also I wonder if we are going to see Derek operating on her?

Since it's neuro I imagine so nod.gif. There is a possiblity of Meredith being involved since she has been getting into neuro these pass two seasons(i.e. clinical trial), and Addie's brother Archer, played by Grant Show, is also neuro if it becomes an issue during the 3 week GA/PrP crossover. Though you would think the writers, for drama angst, would center more on Derek, and by extension MerDer, for the operation because this case would be completely different that what Derek is use to.

I think Derek only operated on two people he has known throughout the series(e.g. Chief and the girl from S4), but at those times it was when Derek was on his game. Now we are at the point where all of Derek's patients have been dying, and he is now saying lines like "I'm tired of the death"(paraphased). He's was high on his game when he operated on the Chief. however, now he is getting frustrated with himself because all of his patients are dying, and having to operate on Izzie would be emotinally intense for him. Not only because he hasn't been on his game but for various reasons. This is someone he knows. Someone he has been living with off and on throughout the series. A friend/family to his girlfriend, and a person people around him really cherish. I can keep on going because the reasons are long. In the end the reasons just pile up to a lot lot of pressure on Derek to make it a successful surgery or perhaps surgeries depending on what Izzie condition is. Second half is going to be interesting nod.gif.
TVR
Don't forget that he operated on Burke....and the problems he had coping with that responsibility and the resulting problems.

Isabel Anne Evans
Blimey, how could I forget about Burke's arm doh.gif. That's right he did, and even though he was top on his game then he still was conflicted nod.gif. Good point hun.

Since we are getting more scenes of Derek and Izzie together, prior to her illness showing up in 5.07 and onward, their scenes should get even more interesting once we get into the medical portion of the storyline. I'm really love how central this storyline is becoming.

So... lately I've been all confused... Because... well first... I was really liking Alex and Izzie's relationship... he was finally a fine guy...! so cute with Izzie... though just with her... he's still a bad guy with George!! ¬¬
mm and also because I do like Denny and Izzie.. I cried my eyes out when he died... and i was OVER it... then he comes back... and he (what ever he is )is not only ruining her relationship with Alex, but also could potencially ruin her career and kill her... (If that happens Im gonna be so pissed Ill stop watching Grey's all together...)
Now, thats why im not so sure about the story... cuz of course the acting is awesome... which is why i like it... but the story is soo weird... so right now im waiting for tthe explanation... which hopefully will be great and Grey's will be super awesome again...!
One thing, just because im not sure about the story line, doesnt mean i dont like how they are playing with it... I think they are being very intelligent... cuz they are kind of getting it in slowly, showing us every part of it... so its interesting at the end of the day... tongue.gif

thanks 4 the caps! and vids!

Check out the Grey's Anatomy spoiler thread..hopefully you will be less confused as it will help explain why Izzie is seeing Denny smile.gif Of course if you want to wait and see what happens..don't read it! lol.gif

So... lately I've been all confused... Because... well first... I was really liking Alex and Izzie's relationship...

Even though I think it's an interesting storyline I do wish the writers would have showed more signs of Izzie's illness rather than her tiredness and talking to no one, so it would have lessen the confusion for others. That's one of the reasons I liked this episode because the writers are starting to show the medical side to Izzie's illness. I'm glad you pointed this out because I noticed that occurance about Alex too. Sometimes I agree with some of the reviewers at Entertainment Weekly and Zap2it that they did a lightswitch on Alex's character when he is with Izzie. Within one episode he was very much in character when he was with Izzie, but now he's almost Mr. Perfect look.gif. Though granted his denial of Izzie's illness is at least in character, and emphsizes he's not completely Mr. Perfect like some reviewers say.

However, I am biased because I'm not completely on Alex's bandwagon yet. I still remember how badly Alex treated not only Izzie, but everyone else. So it's hard to forget especially when he treats George in the same terrible manner over and over again. In Alex's "I Love You" speech to Izzie, which I do think it was heartfelt and some parts of it I did think was sweet, he said "you make me want to be good" kinda irked a bit because he should want to be good anyways. To treat others better. Since he said that line to Izzie he obiviously realizes his treatment of others isn't perceived as good. He knows that he treats others poorly, so why not change it for himself not because of Izzie. Granted I completely understand Izzie influencing him, which I do love because it is human nature to influence others around you, but Alex should try to be good because it's the right thing to do shrug.gif. I don't know that one line in his speech just stuck out like a sore thumb for me lol.

I know you probably read this in the spoiler thread, but since it was mentioned in the recent podcast I can say a tiny bit here since GA official podcasts aren't considered spoilers lol. Denny isn't really Denny. Jeff Dean Morgan is playing another version of Denny's character. I tend call this Denny -- Non-Denny -- because he's not really there nor is he playing the Denny we know and loved. Non-Denny simlpy doesn't exist. As Shonda Rhimes put it in the podcast Denny is not even a ghost. He's just a figment of Izzie's imagination brought upon by her illness.

That said I am glad they are allowing Non-Denny here to help Izzie work through her Denny issues. Granted this should have happened in season three or four, but I'll take what I can get because Izzie's argument with Denny in "In the Midnight Hour" was made of awesome cool.gif. Izzie's guilt surrounding Denny's death is something I always speculated about, so it's nice to see it discussed on the show. It seems like the writers are doing two birds with one stone with this storyline. While this is part of Izzie's illness storyline this storyline is also allowing Izzie to fully, completely move on from Denny.

In regards to Alex and Izzie's relationship I think if it's not Non-Denny, then Alex and Izzie would have had some sort of obstacle between them anyways. We do have Sadie waiting in the wings for a few more episodes this season. There is always something lol shrug.gif.

It's all good hun wink.gif. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say about the storyline, and I definitely agree with several of your points. There is one thing many of us noticed about this polarizing storyline, and that is people who like this storyline and people who don't like this storyline can agree on one thing. That one thing is the stellar acting done by Katherine Heigl. Her acting is just amazing, and so believeable. As one reviewer stated not many actresses can pull off what Katherine Heigl can do smile.gif.

You know right now im less confused, actually i think i might be liking this story, well of course because Katie is awesome playing it... and we get to see more of her (whuuhuu) , but also because it seems to be getting (God i dont know how to say this properly on english... here goes my best shot XD ) a body, Im glad its an illness... which is something that can grant Katie nominations for her great acting. Besides is a great turn for GA stories, which i had not been happy with this last chapters... and I think we will get to see more of the main characters interacting, which i miss...

thanks 4 answering!

Sometimes I hate when shows, just like GA, drop storylines but this one definitely has a body. That there is a beginning, middle, and end. I miss the core main characters too. I was hoping we would go back to the Fab 5 more this season since Shonda said we were going to, but it seems what is shown on-screen is the complete opposite due to all the guest stars shrug.gif. Anyways, that said I am enjoying the season and the past few episodes. As long as I'm entertained(granted my expectations are low lol) and getting my Katherine Heigl fix, then I'm a pretty content fan as long as those two aspects are met lol.gif.

I'm going to unpin this thread to make way for the next episode thread.

That's so true!... With all those guess stars and new characters they are getting the fab 5 apart... which makes me sad! And there are some characters *caugh*George*caugh* that are getting one line in the whole ep!... Though I have to say i'm loving that Izzie (Katie) has a LOT of screen time!...

All the guest stars(though I am excited about Tyne Daly, Jeff Dean Morgan, and Eric Stoltz's appearances) and new characters has definitely made screentime a big issue for the original characters/castmembers nod.gif. It's been issue since season 3, but overtime since Shonda and Co. added more characters the issue has gotten increasingly worst shrug.gif.

The bloated cast doesn't help much, but I think there is a reason to why the Fab 5 are apart right now. We have Izzie who is isolating herself more and more because is losing all rational thought because she is being succumb by her illness. Alex and George are now opposite ends of the room because of their fight about Izzie's welfare. Even then George has been basically non-existent this season skep.gif. While Meredith and Cristina are at each other's throats fighting all the time, but I was waiting for four seasons for this storyline to break eventually lol. So we have the Fab 5 basically split up, but that's where Izzie's illness storyline kicks in smile.gif.

I can see Izzie being the key to bring the Fab 5 coming back together. To help re-bond not only Meredith/Cristina, but perhaps Alex and George since George is suppose to have a slightly bigger role in Izzie's storyline in the second half. Illness storylines are sometimes used to bring people together, and I can see that occuring here. Of course it's all merely speculation, but that's the set-up I am seeing nod.gif shrug.gif.

It's neat because this storyline can be seen as complicated and interpretative, but also very simple in nature smile.gif. I want more stills too, but they are still typically keeping things hush lol.

Whoops, I did it again doh.gif lol.gif. The phrase "big word" or "word" is United States slang for I agree with what you just said smile.gif.

Which is something many people who don't even like the storyline has said smile.gif. Katherine is just nailing all of Izzie's range of emotions not only with grace, but with stellar acting. Katherine's acting is one of the reasons I became such a big fan of hers. She has a tendency of pulling you into a scene and storyline as a viewer. It's amazing to watch nod.gif.
