In the latest round of pilot castings, Julia Ormond has been tapped as a lead on CBS' drama pilot "Three Rivers"; Jeffrey Tambor is set to co-star on ABC's comedy "The Bridget Show"; Matthew Davis has landed the male lead on ABC's drama "Limelight"; Gabrielle Union, Brian Austin Green, Jay Hernandez and Jenny Wade are set as leads on the CW's drama "Body Politic"; and Majandra Delfino has landed the third lead on ABC's comedy pilot "Pulling".

Additionally, Grant Show and Lennon Parham have joined CBS' comedy "Accidentally on Purpose," Yvette Nicole Brown and Gillian Jacobs have joined NBC's comedy "Community," and Nat Faxon and Kelen Coleman have joined CBS' comedy "Big D."

"Rivers," from CBS Paramount, is about organ transplants seen through three points of view: those of the doctors, the donors and the recipients. Gersh-repped Ormond will play the head of surgery at Three Rivers Hospital. She co-starred in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and has been recurring on CBS' "CSI: NY."

Sony's "Bridget Show" stars Lauren Graham as Bridget, a popular talk-show host and relationship expert who walks away from her career to be with the man she loves, only to attempt a comeback five years later after he dumps her.

"Arrested Development" co-star Tambor, repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment, will play Bridget's business manager in a reunion with "Arrested" creator Mitchell Hurwitz, who executive produces the pilot.

WBTV/Wonderland's "Limelight" is a soap about the teachers and students at a New York performing-arts academy. Davis, repped by Gersh and Brillstein, will play a director of the school who steps in as an interim artistic director.

"Politic," from CBS Par, is a look at Washington politics through the eyes of up-and-coming staffers.

Green will play the president's "boy wonder" adviser. Union will play his sometimes-girlfriend, a legislative director. Hernandez will play a naval officer. Wade will play an idealistic young staffer.

For Green, repped by APA and manager Tracy Samuels, "Body Politic" is formally in second position to "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

ABC Studios' "Pulling" revolves around three single thirtysomething women (Lindsay Sloane, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Delfino). Delfino, whose character is a girl-next-door type, is repped APA and Luber Roklin.

"Accidentally," from CBS Par, stars Elfman as a movie critic who gets pregnant after a fling with a younger man. Show will play the owner of the paper where she works. Parham will play her younger sister.

The Sony-produced "Community" centers on Jeff (Joel McHale), a lawyer back in school after his college degree is deemed invalid.

Jacobs will play the object of Jeff's affection. Brown will play another student.

In WBTV's "Big D," a New York couple moves to the husband's hometown of Dallas, where his Southern belle mother (Deanne Dunagan) makes life complicated for his East Coast wife. Coleman will play the husband's younger sister. Faxton will play a cousin.

Hmmm I just realilzed that Charlie Finn was the guy that was in Help Me, Help You and that Lindsey Sloane was also in that too.

Thanks for the news Val! hug.gif

It will be great to see Majandra on tv again. Hopefully the show takes off- the British imports usually do.

I've noticed that ABC "recycles" their actors a lot. I think once the casting department gets a hold of actors, they use them to the fullest. It's especially true with guest stars.

Hopefully we'll hear more soon. Maybe even Majandra will give us an update. smile.gif

Hopefully a new show for Majandra wink.gif !

Amanda Bynes is all grown up, and other pilot news
By Rick Porter
March 23, 02:44 PM

Amanda Bynes is set to play a grown-up role on television -- and nothing says "welcome to adulthood" like getting fired.

The former Nickelodeon star has joined the cast of ABC's comedy pilot "Canned," about a group of friends who all get sacked on the same day. The latest round of pilot casting also includes "Arrested Development" patriarch Jeffrey Tambor joining Lauren Graham in "The Bridget Show," Matthew Davis in the ABC drama "Limelight" and Majandra Delfino in the network's Britcom adaptation "Pulling."

"Canned" will be the second network sitcom for Bynes, after The WB's "What I Like About You." She'll be playing a hard-working girl named Sarabeth who gets fired from her office job in a corporate shakeup, The Hollywood Reporter says. The show's other firees include Tim Peper, Stephanie Lemelin and Baron Vaughn.

Bynes most recently co-starred in the Lifetime movie "Living Proof." Her feature credits include "Hairspray," "She's the Man" and "What a Girl Wants."

"The Bridget Show" stars Graham as a former TV relationship guru who tries to restart her career after her own relationship crumbles. Tambor will play her business manager.

"Limelight" is a "Fame"-like drama about the students and faculty at a performing-arts school. Davis ("What About Brian") will play a lead role as a teacher who becomes the school's artistic director.

In "Pulling," Delfino ("Roswell") will play one of two roommates (Mary Elizabeth Ellis is the other) who take in their friend (Lindsay Sloane) after she breaks off her engagement.

Check out our gallery of next season's potential stars, and weigh in on some of ABC's and CBS' projects for the coming season.

Has anyone seen the original British series? From the sound of it Majandra might be playing Louise since she sounds kinda like a girl next door type.

Sitcoms Likely To Return In Force Next Season
7 April 2009 2:38 AM, PDT

Network programmers are betting that sitcoms are poised for a comeback. Of 71 scripted pilots hoping to get regular slots on network schedules next season, 33 are comedies, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Tuesday). The newspaper noted that the current recession figures in the planning, since sitcoms are generally less costly to produce than dramas, particularly those shot before a live audience with multiple cameras. Of the 33 sitcom pilots being produced, 19 of them use a multi-cam format, allowing them to be produced in less time than those shot with a single camera. As of now, only CBS airs multi-cam sitcoms, but Angela Bromstad, president of primetime entertainment at NBC, told the Times. "When you look at what's working and what is standing in a very crowded environment, the multi-cameras on CBS are doing very well and prove that it's not a dying format."

STATUS:
currently in development (2009-2010 season)

DEVELOPMENT STAGE:
ordered to pilot

DESCRIPTION:

(from ABC's web site, March 2009) Boyfriends may come and go, but girlfriends are forever. When three almost-thirty-something best friends find themselves single again, they move in together and live it up as only three Philly girls can. Donna, Louise and Karen have lived in Philly their whole lives and have been friends for almost as long. No matter what's happened in their lives, they've always been there for each other. Now facing their thirties, they're beginning to wonder just what it is exactly that they have to show for it. Ballsy Karen just gave up her apartment, but can't find a new one since landlords only want couples. Beautiful, but neurotic Donna is suffering a serious mid-relationship crisis regarding her fianc Karl. And sweet, but slightly ditzy Louise is finally in a relationship... unfortunately, it's sex-free because her boyfriend is a reformed flasher. As Karen enlists her friends into her crazy schemes to secure her dream apartment, Donna finally decides that she has to let Karl go. Louise's boyfriend has the balls to dump her when she catches him flashing Karen's would-be landlady. Now the girls really need an apartment. These three girlfriends may not have anywhere to sleep just yet, but at least they know they've always got each other. Now if they could only find love. Pulling is the blue-collar answer to Sex and the City. Stacy Taub (Notes from the Underbelly) adapts from Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly's hit British comedy of the same name. Every woman will identify with one of these three friends as they discover just how hilariously hard it really is to get a life.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Charlie Finn as Karl
· Lindsay Sloane as Donna
· Majandra Delfino as Louise
· Mary Elizabeth Ellis as Karen

CREW INFORMATION:
· Dennis Kelly as EP/CRTR (U.K. Series)
· Elliot Hegarty as DIR (Pilot)
· Francie Calfo as EP
· Sharon Horgan as EP/CRTR (U.K. Series)
· Stacy Traub as CRTR/EP

Ok the only thing that worries me is that since this is on network TV they won't be as daring as the BBC show. I read the episode guides and they definitely push the envelope but oh my god it sounds hysterical, especially the episode where Louise gets hooked on internet porn.

I also found this on Media Monkey and I'm sure if this show does get picked up we will see the 'clean' version verses the naughty one but I'm with the writer on this I'm sure the naughty one will be the funnier of the two:

ABC's Pulling power

Pulling: the bawdy BBC3 show is being made into a pilot by ABC

Monkey was surprised when US network ABC confirmed it was making a pilot of raunchy BBC3 comedy Pulling. After all, the bawdy show about three single women is full of sex, drinking and swearing - hardly primetime US network territory. But Monkey hears ABC has actually made two versions of the show for its pilot - one with all the naughty stuff and one a bit cleaner. Monkey knows which one would be best but is guessing it may not be the one that ends up on air.
nephelite
Thanks Val!

The show sounds really good and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it gets picked up. Also I would love to see the naughty version of it.
mag
So there are two pilots shot but only one will air and if the show is picked up, the show will be following the "cleaner" version of that BBC sitcom, that's right?

I wonder if it will be picked up. It doesn't look like there are many new shows, lately.
Vallygirl
Well it's not written in stone that if the show is picked up that we won't see the 'naughty' pilot, just a guess since it's US network tv.
augustdestiny
Sounds like it could be a great show.
Vallygirl
I ordered the script sides for the pilot. I have about 13 pages of the pilot and I think I have most of Majandra's scenes. Ok I laughed out loud reading this script (I wish I could see the British version).

For copyright reasons we can't repost the script but if you PM me with your email address I will be happy to email you a copy of what I have.

How is it decided if a pilot is picked up or not? For a show, there are the sweeps, it's all about the ratings (therefore the viewers who watch the show or not) but for pilots, how does it work? Do they air in may, or is it the network which decides based on a panel of people? (I saw that in an episode of Frasier, his show was being reviewed by some people carefully selected and one played by Mr Monk himself didn't like the show, much to Frasier's anger).

Personally from some of the things that make it onto the air I think they put the show names on a cork board and throw darts at them to make the decisions.
augustdestiny
I think they screen it for a test audience and the feedback they get from that has a lot to do with it. And they take other things into consideration, does it target the right demographic? Where will it fit in their schedule? Will they be able to sell it to advertisers?

We have a little bit over 2 weeks til they decide and I think we should do something to show support and that there are people interested in the show.

Of course you can add some more things to the email. Here is the Contact Form where you can post this.

Thanks a lot

Majandra told me that her character Louise has fantastic similarities to Miss Maria DeLuca and that people would flip out over the pilot so I really hope we can help and that ABC decides to give green light to the show.

I thought this was an interesting article about where ABC is hoping to go this year and that they seem to want to focus on comedies. From zap2it: http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-abc-want...0,5888333.story

ABC wants 'Old Christine' if CBS doesn't

Sitcom has a backup plan for next season

Julia Louis-Dreyfus of 'The New Adventures of Old Christine' "The New Adventures of Old Christine" could end up on a new network if its old network decides it doesn't want the show anymore.

The CBS sitcom once again finds itself the object of affection at ABC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Alphabet has made a backup deal with "Christine" producer Warner Bros. TV to pick up the series if CBS decides to pass on a fifth season.

ABC and Warner Bros. went through a similar dance last year, when "Old Christine" was on the bubble for renewal and ABC was in search of more comedy. CBS ended up ordering a new season of the show and pairing it with newcomer "Gary Unmarried" to establish a comedy block on Wednesday nights.

The deal this year came about because CBS hasn't yet made a decision on whether to renew the show. The HR says that "for now," CBS is leaning toward bringing the show back for 2009-10.

ABC is trying to make a bigger push into comedy and is sifting through more than a dozen sitcom pilots as it sets its lineup for next season. The network will have precious few established shows with which to pair any newcomers, though -- none of its current comedies are sure bets for renewal -- so a veteran show could help anchor a comedy block.

"Old Christine," which stars Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is drawing about 7.5 million viewers a week this season.

Dancing with the Upfronts: Rounding Up the Buzz on Pilots at ABC, FOX, CBS, and CW
Written by Jace | Friday, May 08, 2009 | 7 comments »

The networks aren't expected to announce their schedules until the week of May 18th, but ABC got a jump on the competition yesterday by announcing that they had given an early pickup to single-camera comedy Modern Family, from writer/executive producers Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, giving the series an initial thirteen-episode commitment.

Looking extremely likely for a series order at ABC is drama Flash Forward, especially given the fact that ABC has already launched an on-air viral campaign for the series with its "What did you see?" tagline. ABC executives are slated to screen the pilot and it's a given that Flash Forward will make it on the schedule. Other slots on the schedule could go to such drama projects as Happy Town, V, Limelight, Empire State, The Unknown, or Eastwick.

On the comedy front Awesome Hank (formerly known as Untitled Kelsey Grammer) is looking positive as are Ricky Blitt's Romantically Challenged (formerly known as Single With Baggage) and Bill Lawrence's comedy Cougar Town, though I've also heard some negative buzz forming about the latter. I'm hearing from several sources that comedies Pulling, Best Thing Ever, and The Law turned out decent but not spectacularly, although ABC's redo on The Middle screened very well. It seems like there's no hope for comedies No Heroics and Canned, however.

Meanwhile, several ABC pilots have gotten some title changes, with Lauren Graham's untitled comedy pilot reverting back to Let It Go (its original moniker), the untitled Tad Quill pilot now getting retitled as Best Thing Ever, the untitled Anita Renfroe pilot will now be called Bless This Mess, and Don't Try This at Home is now entitled Married Not Dead.

*************

Not sure what to think about what is being said here. I also saw this on The Hollywood Reporter and there is no mention of Pulling.

ABC picks up 'Flash Forward'
Network gives drama 13-episode order
By Nellie Andreeva

May 8, 2009, 10:02 PM ET

"Flash Forward"

ABC has officially picked up drama "Flash Forward."

The show, which already is being promoted on the network, received a 13-episode order Friday night.

Based on Robert J. Sawyer's novel, the Joseph Fiennes-starring series chronicles the aftermath of a global event in which everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes, 17 seconds and has mysterious visions of six months into the future.

David Goyer and Brannon Braga co-wrote the pilot for "Flash," which Goyer directed.

Both will exec produce the series, but because of his commitment to Fox's "24," where he is an exec producer, Braga won't be involved full time on "Flash."

"Eli Stone" co-creator/exec producer Marc Guggenheim has come on board as exec producer and will run the series with Goyer.

Also exec producing are Jessika Goyer, Vince Gerardis and Ralph Vicinanza.

ABC has been the most aggressive among the broadcast networks, handing out early series pickups to its strongest pilots.

The pickup for "Flash" came hours after the network brass screened it to a strong reception. It follows ABC's Thursday order of new comedy "Modern Family."

In addition to Fiennes, the cast of "Flash" includes Sonya Walger, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Brian O'Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton and Peyton List.

With ABC's pilot screenings slated to wrap Monday, other hot prospects at the network include mystery drama "Happy Town" and Jerry Bruckheimer's "The Unknown," both enjoying rave reviews. Also going strong are the Courteney Cox-starring comedy "Cougar Town" as well as the contemporary witch take "Eastwick."

Another remake, "V," is heading into its Monday screening with a strong buzz, with dramas "Empire State" and "Limelight" also in contention.

On the comedy side, the Patricia Heaton starrer "The Middle," which was filmed months ago, is picking up heat after a solid screening.

Three pilots also have something going for them -- the strong presence of stars Alyssa Milano ("Romantically Challenged"), Kelsey Grammer ("untitled Kelsey Grammer project") and Cedric The Entertainer ("The Law").
nephelite
Thanks for the info Val!

I hope that doesn't mean anything.
Vallygirl
Unfortuantley I'm not getting a good feeling about Pulling getting picked up. It's just not getting much buzz especially after being screened. Here is an article from zap2it that talks about the most likely shows to be picked up. Maybe Pulling will get a chance as a midseason backup show.

Unfortunately with Scrubs and Better Off Ted returning there aren't that many time slots left sad.gif.

Upfront chatter: 'Scrubs' back? 'Three Rivers' flowing?
By Rick Porter
May 11, 01:12 PM

"Scrubs" aired an episode that could very well have been a series finale last week. But it's looking more and more like the series could return for a ninth season.

That, at least, is the word from Variety, which reports that "Scrubs," which ABC picked up from NBC this season, "continue[s] to look good" to survive into 2009-10 despite the departure of star Zach Braff and potentially that of creator Bill Lawrence (and follows several other reports that the show's chances for renewal are improving).

"Scrubs'" timeslot mate at ABC, "Better Off Ted," has also seen its prospects brighten thanks to critical support and a vocal if not especially big fan base. Lawrence, meanwhile, reportedly has a contender with his pilot "Cougar Town."

Since it's a week before the upfronts, you can probably find someone willing to tell you that any given pilot is a strong contender for next season. After surveying the latest from the trades and elsewhere on the web, though, here's a rundown of what shows have a pretty good chance of hearing their names called next week.

ABC

The network has already picked up two newbies for 2009-10 -- a comedy, "Modern Family," and a drama, "Flash Forward." Other comedies on the short list include the aforementioned "Cougar Town," starring Courteney Cox, and "Romantically Challenged," which stars Alyssa Milano and Eric Christian Olsen. The Lauren Graham vehicle "The Bridget Show" is maybe a step behind after reportedly getting a mixed reception in screenings.

The drama situation is pretty fluid. Depending on whom you ask, any of several pilots -- "Eastwick," "The Forgotten," "Inside the Box," "Happy Town," "V" or David Hemingon's legal show -- is high on the list. My guess is that the network will announce two or three comedies (including "Modern Family") and about the same number of dramas.
RhondaAnn
That's just a shame if it doesn't get picked up for the fall season. I guess we can hold out hope thout that it might be a mid-season replacement.
Vallygirl
Well this might be a good sign *hopefully* for Pulling. Lauren Graham's show has not been picked up. *I have to say I'm actually sad about this, I loved Lauren on GG and was hoping her show would be picked up too*. This is from AOL Television.

Graham and Kelley's Pilots Not Picked Up

ABC has decided not to pick up Lauren Graham's half-hour comedy pilot, while NBC has passed on the David E. Kelley drama 'Legally Mad,' according to the Hollywood Reporter. Graham's pilot, about a talk show host forced to take her own advice when her life falls apart, tanked with test audiences, while NBC's pass on 'Legally Mad' came as a bit of a surprise. (May 12)

Well, I guess we're back in the "wait and see" mode for now!
Vallygirl
Well lets hope Majandra's friend David Walton luck rubs off on her. I just saw that his show 100 Question was picked up by NBC.

Fingers crossed

Majandra tweeted on her twitter site that Pulling is 'dead'.

Such a shame.

Unfortunately I had a feeling this wasn't going to get picked up sad.gif. Just too much competition with some pretty big name stars.
Vallygirl
Well I'm sure this is one of the reasons why Pulling didn't have a chance...they renewed Scrubs and Better Off Ted rolleyes.gif. I'm sorry but seriously who is going to watch Scrubs now that several of the lead actors are leaving. I am happy that Castle got a second season though.

UpFront Buzz 2009: ABC Renews SCRUBS, BETTER OFF TED & CASTLE
May 15th, 2009

HUGE UNBELIEVABLE BREAKING NEWS! Michael Ausiello (@EWAusielloFiles) just gave theTVaddict.com a huge shout-out on twitter by including us in his #followfriday alongside the unbelievably awesome @tvweek_joe @sepinwall @LATshowtracker and @tvguide.

What’s that? You were expecting actual television news, not ridiculous self-indulgent non-TV related announcements? Well, how’s this for must-read-TV: According to our new “Twitter-BFF” Ausiello, ABC has taken a page from FOX’s welcome new “Quality over Quantity” playbook (as demonstrated by their surprising DOLLHOUSE second season pick from earlier in the day) by renewing rating challenged fan favorites such as CASTLE, BETTER OFF TED and SCRUBS.

Also making headlines was the Alphabet’s pick up of Courteney Cox’s much buzzed about Bill Lawrence comedy COUGAR TOWN, the drama HAPPY TOWN (from the brains behind OCTOBER ROAD and LIFE ON MARS), the re-imagination of the 80’s Sci-Fi classic V, EASTWICK (a re-imagination of The Witches of Eastwick) and the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced FORGOTTEN.

Don’t forget to stick with theTVaddict.com (@theTVaddict on twitter) for the latest up-to-date renewals, pickups, cancellations and scheduling announcements from next week’s 2009 Up Fronts. It’s gonna be one helluva exciting week. Stay tuned…
