I actually think someone is mishandling a sensitive subject here.

We all know that Max was born a Woman, but always felt like a Man prisoner in a woman's body. That's why she was physically TRANSintioning from one sex to the other. As Lyndabeth said Max was devastated when he found out he was pregnant, 'cause that fact not just stopped the process of his physical evolution, but also surely forced him to think deeply about the meaning of having a new life growing inside ... a new life that in his growing is gonna change his body in a totally different direction, from where Max was prepared to go in this moment of his life, and from where he wanted to go all his life long, i.e. in a state when his physical appearance would have finally matched the one he identifies as, inside.

Why is someone pointing out that he has a beard or that he has a bell, that he has a vagina and not a penis? Aren't we supposed to know he is TRANSITIONING and that for this reason he has characteristics belonging from both sexes?
I don't understand the meaning of 'crucify' Max in the middle of his way from being a 'Woman' to being a 'Man'... and make jokes about him?!
Neither I understand the need of attaching a 'sex' label on him.
Unless someone is really scared about something that is not easy to 'identify'.
In this case I just wish we could make a little effort, and not mishandle such a sensitive subject making jokes ... whether we realize it or not when we touch this topic we're talking about PERSONS here.

I have my opinion like most do on certain things this SHOW covered. I should be able to air them without being name called. Quite disgusting.

I said this, not because I was insensitive, but the one man having a baby, had a partner. I simple wondered if Max shaved his beard to avoid questions? If he is alone, would he take the easy way out?

The support he had before is gone, Bette and Tina left for New York, Jenny is dead, Alice is suppose to be going to prison, Kit got a new guy, Helena is a drunk, who is he going to rely on?

a man can be pregnant if he does have ovaries and a womb. The transman stopped taking hormones about 2 years ago.

I understand MJ's point of view : we saw Helena drinking after Jenny revealed the truth about the test and Dylan left, she drank at the babyshower and later that night in HIT where she got in trouble with the tattood woman and her gf. Then we saw her drink again at the opening of the Wentworth/Porter Gallery BUT that doesn't mean she is a drunk. That was just a reaction of the moment to the grief Dylan caused her again.

I can understand Kit got concerned cause she knows what regular drinking can lead to and she didn't want Helena to end up like that. I don't think Helena will become an alcoholic though, she is too strong of a woman to go there, she just had a moment of weakness

I had the same thoughts - jbealslover - As you and MJ pointed out, during this season we've been induced to pay attention to the numerous times Helena reacted to her problems DRINKING, more and more. I mean this season Helena's drinks were more than Rachel Shelley's lines!
Nevertheless, the season ended before this (as many others) theme was developed - and finally I don't think we have any evidence of an addiction to alcohol...
I kind of agree with zwilling - when she underlines that Helena asks for a strong coffee, once she realised she might have found in Xena a new partner!

Shaina - I'm not an expert, but I've been told, mooonths ago, that a 'woman' under T, should stop the treatment for several months in order to have the chance of being pregnant. SO it's fairly unrealistic what the writers made this character go through
BUT, as lame a device for drama as it was, I found this storyline interesting nevertheless. It planted many seeds in my brain, and induced me to think about trangender-ness, about the way people react to this, about the way even lesbian community reacts ... not to mention the theme of the relationship body-personal identity ... not only while transitioning from one sex to the other, but also while having another life and body, growing inside your own ... so many feelings and thoughts involved in this processes ... I got totally lost, but I liked it, and thought it was important - for me ... and I suppose it was for many people...

This is why - aka xxx - I was worried about a possible mishandling of those themes. I'm perfectly aware that this is a SHOW and Max is a FICTIONAL person - nevertheless the way you wrote your respectable opinion made someone think it was related more to the general trangender-ness theme, than to Max's storyline only.
Whether we were right or wrong on this point only you can clarify
As for your right of expressing an opinion in general, I think it's obvious you can write what you want - nobody censured you as far as I read - but you have to accept as well that your opinion may cause a reaction - don't you think?

IN GENERAL - what's the meaning of expressing an opinion in a public forum like this, if we are not able to work on it, if we're not open to evolve it ... to grow together? Otherwise shouldn't we be able to explane our arguments and convince whoever thinks in a different way? If it's not so, I suppose we might as well write anything at all...?

Helena has gone through so much, over the years, that anything is possible. In IC's world, the 'stronger' they are, the 'harder' they fall. Who would have thought another strong woman would cheat.

The few baby showers I have attended, there was no smoking or drinking. The centre of attention was the mom to be, fruit punch was all they served, along with finger foods..That baby shower scene must have been played for laughs.

Didn't Helena asked for 'one of these. OR something stronger'? I didn't think she wanted a strong coffee as she didn't know how strong the detective's coffee was. If someone asked me for something 'stronger', that to me, means booze.

I totally agree with you in IC's world anything is indeed possible and she is known for wrecking characters, she did the same thing with Bette in S2 after Tina had left her, she suddenly started drinking and smoking

Helena has indeed been through a lot but I think it made her even stronger only Dylan seemed to be her weak spot but that was soon forgotten when she noticed Miss Xena was interested in her laughs.
I also heard her ask this 'can I get one of these .... or something stronger ... a drink ... maybe'
that's exactly what she said so I don't think she was asking for a stronger coffee but a stiff drink if you ask me

Over here they (Belgium) they don't do babyshowers, the parents usually invite friends and family after the baby is born and some of these parties(which should be about the new born baby) end up in a pretty drunk mess . Who knows maybe IC got her inspiration for that episode over here LOL
