Just got back from the FX Con. I had a wonderful time. James was so much fun. I asked him 2 questions..one was to see if he had heard anything about BBC Radio4 doing Torchwood plays. He hadn't heard of that but he'd love to if they ask him. And I told him that I had gotten up at 6AM on Friday to hear his radio interview and that I had been thinking that I really hope James says something to make that worthwhile to me...and when I had heard him say he'd auditioned for Martin Scorcese!!! That had been very worthwhile. He looked pleased and said the audition had gone very well and he was pretty sure it would lead to something. They asked his height afterwards and that's a better indication that they are thinking of hiring you than a pat on the back and a "Great Job" .
Now here comes the amazing part...as I left the area a man came up to me and asked which radio show I had heard that on. I said the WTKS Monsters in the Morning show. And he said that he was Tuddle, the interviewer! He was so pleased that I had heard it and I told him about a lot of James fans having tuned in. He said that the interview is twice as long and they had to cut it down. He says he is putting up the whole interview on the site soon, and he had someone take a picture of us and asked if he could use it on there. I hope I don't look too goofy...and I'll be checking the site and will let everyone know when it's been added.
Other newish info: James said he had thought he'd be doing a concert in Italy soon but there was a problem with negotiations and he doesn't think its happening at this time.
I was my usual befuddled self in the autograph line. I had a huge movie poster of Dragonball for him to sign. There was the same image on both sides. I learned later that all the writing is backwards on the backside because movie theaters put a light behind the poster. Anyway, I now have a lovely James autograph on a big poster with backwards lettering! However, all not lost, I did ask him if Rob Morrow had acknowledged that they had worked together in Northern Exposure all those years ago. James said "Not until I reminded him." Rob said "What??!! But when James described the scene for him, he then remembered the character and told James that he had been good in that.
During the concert he mentioned that he had put some videos on You Tube and encouraged us to go check them out and leave comments. (He said "But nothing bad, that's my son! )
Next day at photo ops I told him that many of his fans had been watching the Japanese Dragonball premiere live. I said seeing the cast come out of the big orange balls was cool. He said that they didn't have any idea of what was going to happen so (he made a worried face...then grinned) . I was so happy because I always wanted to do the "Spike and Dru" pose where you put foreheads together and then turn out toward the camera. I asked if I was too short to have that shot. And he said"Of course not, and hunkered on down a bit and we did." ( I smushed noses with James hee)
At the last autograh session, James was telling that story about how he's still mad at Dark Horse for making Juliet look bad in the Spike and Dru story he wrote. I told him that Juliet is now writing a comic for Dark Horse so I think she has gotten over it. He laughed and said well, maybe it wasn't as big a deal as he thought and maybe he'll get over it now too.
I am so glad I went to this one. It was in a great facility but it really wasn't as crowded as many I've been to before so it had a nice, relaxed feel to everything.
