I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread for this topic, but.. let's see.
I have news about the first song chosen to be on the
New Moon soundtrack:
According to Stephenie Meyer’s Website:
'"I just received the following announcement from Atlantic Records (the record label that produced the Twilight Soundtrack):
The first single has officially been confirmed for the New Moon Soundtrack!
Death Cab for Cutie has written an exclusive song for the movie entitled
‘Meet Me On the Equinox.’ Below is a statement from the band about the song:
“We are very excited to be a part of this amazing series of novels set in our own backyard. It just seemed a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters. This song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film and we are proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy.” — Nick Harmer / Death Cab for Cutie
Additionally, we have the exclusive premiere of the soundtrack album! The soundtrack will be
in stores on
October 20th, 2009, stay tuned for more information!”
According to Summit Entertainment’s press release:
“After months of speculation, Atlantic and Chop Shop Records have announced that the first single from the upcoming New Moon Soundtrack will be Death Cab for Cutie’s ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’. Fans will be able to
hear the song, which was written exclusively for the soundtrack, in its entirety for the first time
September 13th on MTV.COM during the
MTV VMAs.”
Ooh, I was going to watch the VMAs anyway because I like the MC, Russell Brand. But now we'll get to hear a NM song. Plus, I like Death Cab for Cutie.

Here's a pic of the cover of the

From Billboard.com:
“While no other artists are yet confirmed [for the New Moon soundtrack], music industry sources have the sound headed in a more indie-centric direction than the first "Twilight," with Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear and Muse all in the running.
Alex Patsavas -- the influential music supervisor whose credits include television shows "The O.C.," "Grey's Anatomy," "Gossip Girls" and "Chuck" as well as the original "Twilight" film -- is the music supervisor for "New Moon." All of the songs in "New Moon" will be exclusive to the film, all either written specifically for the movie or never available anywhere else.
And they added this about the Twilight soundtrack:
The original "Twilight" soundtrack was released in Nov. 2008, debuted on the Billboard 200 at No.1 and has sold 2.2 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That set includes tracks from Muse, Paramore, Mute Math, Collective Soul and Linkin Park. The release was huge out of the gate, sales subsided a bit, but then surged back up after it was reissued in a deluxe format timed to the DVD release of the movie in March, 2009. The "Twilight" album logged 20 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 -- the longest top 10 run for a theatrical film soundtrack since 1998, when both "Titanic" and "City of Angels" also managed 20 weeks.

Thanks Tek ... I had forgotten to mention that I pre-ordered the soundtrack on Amazon ... ... several weeks ago ...
Tekgirl

Hmmm, maybe I should pre-order it, too, Nosee. They must already know who's on the soundtrack. If the CD is going to ship in about 7 weeks, the lineup has to be a done deal already.

One would think its been firmed up, but after watching this week's Twilight Weekly, there was that one artist who is campainging to be on the soundtrack with her song "Need" which would be perfect by the way. I wonder if 100 Monkeys will end up on a soundtrack?
Tekgirl
Sep 1 2009, 12:43 AM
Ky, I wouldn't be surprised to find a 100 Monkeys song on the soundtrack if only to be nice to Jackson. (Rob got 2 songs on the twi-CD.) I hope they pick a decent song of "Monkeys' song." ...I saw that piece about the girl campaigning to be on the soundtrack.
Nosee, I broke down and pre-ordered my NM CD.

The article is a bit dated (it says NM is in preproduction), but the info is interesting.
What's the Scoop on the Next Twilight Soundtrack?
Thu., Jan. 29, 2009 10:24 AM PST by LESLIE GORNSTEIN
Summit Entertainment
Q: I am loving the Twilight soundtrack. Any scoop on the next one? And how do they find music for TV and movies, anyway?
—Jade, Perth, Western Australia
A: The songs for New Moon haven't been nailed down yet—the flick is still in preproduction after all—but do I have some gossip on the movie anyway? You bet.
First, some background. When it comes to Twilight's soundtrack,
you may credit legendary music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who has also curated the music for TV shows The OC, Roswell, Chuck, Mad Men and Without a Trace. Patsavas is also on board to supervise the sound for New Moon. Now the gossip...
The new director, Chris Weitz, has been sending out signals that he may be open to a more experimental soundtrack than his predecessor. That could mean songs that sparkle even more than the movie's vampires when they get caught in the sun.
"I think that might be the way it's going," says Marisa Baldi, West Coast partner for Zync, a music brokerage that funneled two songs onto the Twilight soundtrack. "I get the vibe that the guy is a little more into being surprised...everything is really open, and he wants to hear a lot of cool music."
The process for choosing the final music list works like any movie. First, bands or their managers approach a music brokerage, such as Zync. Zync then works to place songs in films, film trailers or commercials.
In the case of a feature film, the brokerage chats with a film's music supervisor, gets a feel for the film and then sends out compilations of suggested tracks. The Twilight song "Full Moon" by the Black Ghosts was a hit with Patsavas right away.
"It was on the very first compilation I sent her for the film," Baldi recalls.
As for Patsavas, I interviewed her awhile ago about her search process. "We sort of put in one CD at a time," Patsavas explained to me at the time. "Maybe we don't play a CD all the way through, but we do give everything a try."

hmm. i have a feeling the soundtrack could go either way for me, a bit like the twilight one - some tracks were great but *ducks* i absolutely hate paramore!
i'm optomistic that either the paramore involvement in this one will be smaller, or the songs will be a little less... something
i'm also hoping that for the new moon soundtrack they dont try the scam they did with the twilight one. despite Rob being british we couldn't get his bonus track because we couldn't buy the US album off itunes and the UK one had fewer tracks but cost more!
Tekgirl
Sep 7 2009, 05:20 AM
ITA so_what. There were a few songs on the twilight soundtrack that had me scratching my head as to why they were included. O Well. ...Add me to the list of Rob fans who were PO'd about the arbitrary omission of Rob's second song on the CD version of the soundtrack. It wasn't fair that the only way to get the second song by Rob was to buy the entire soundtrack as an MP3 download. I prefer a CD to a download. ...Sorry that the UK version had fewer songs to begin with.
If you don't get MTV's VMAs in Britain on the 13th, hang in there. I have no doubt that clips - especially the twilight related ones will be on YouTube soon after the show airs.

My sister signed up with Limewire, and got a whole bunch of Rob Pattinson songs, including the second one on the soundtrack and piano track (no singing but some really amazing playing) call "The River Flows through you". Which is apparently free? Just watch the downloads.

The entire New Moon soundtrack, curated by music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy) will hit stores Oct. 20. In general, it’s shaping up to be an even alt-ier effort than the original Twilight mix, with names like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear and double-timers Muse all rumored to be included

You know Tek my sis and I were wondering if a "River runs through you" was the version he originally spent 3 hrs writing before the composer decided to dump it for the verision that made to the movie but if search Bella's Lullaby they may have it under that. i *think* i saw an advert for it on a music channel we get (not MTV, we can get that though but have to pay) when i had it on for the baby i sit for to boogie to

it had a 'X days to the VMAs' countdown anyway so you never know...
looks like i'll have to save some birthday money to get the new moon poster and soundtrack (after waiting to see whether i need to get an import to get all the tracks

i can cope with muse (used to hate them though). i can generally deal with the whole alt-music thing (british alt music at least

) but i hate the whole teenage 'i hate my life' music

Ky, thanks for the info about River, the Lullaby and more. I'll have to do a search as you suggested.
Nosee, thanks for the NM Soundtrack info. I am not surprised that Muse might have a larger presence on the soundtrack; Muse is Stephenie's favorite band - and her "muse" for writing a lot of the Twi-saga.
so_what, good luck in getting the MTV VMA's on one of your free channels. I'll watch the show, but all I really care about is the
twi-music/twi-actors. I might just turn off the show once they are gone. ...I hope that the record company/twi-music people don't do the same thing as they did with the
twilight soundtrack by not including all the songs they played in the movie. It made me

that Radiohead and Rob's second song weren't on the CD.

New Moon Soundtrack Closer to Completion
Posted by Twilight_News - 17/09/09 at 01:09 pm
MTV is reporting that the songs on the New Moon soundtrack will be announced on Friday.
Alexandra Patsavas talked to the New York Times about the entire Twilight Saga soundtrack process and her experience in this unique phenomena:
“Ms. Patsavas, known for her work on television shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Gossip Girl,” said she was confident that the “New Moon” soundtrack would include Thom Yorke, Bon Iver and Band of Skulls. Death Cab for Cutie’s “Meet Me on the Equinox,” the first single, had its premiere on MTV.com on Sunday, as part of a “Twilight” promotional blitz surrounding MTV’s Video Music Awards.”http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/17/arts/mus...3&ref=music

16. Lupe Fiasco – Solar Midnite
17. The Magic Numbers And Amadou & Mariam – All I Believe In

I think that its a clever ploy for more people to use I tunes and besides it opens up the opportunity to release a special edition soundtrack to entice more people to buy
so_what
Oct 3 2009, 12:42 PM
i understand about getting people to buy multiple versions because they have different things on, thats always been the case, but for twilight Itunes didn't allow people in the UK to buy the special edition, so they weren't widening their market there, just annoying people. i often buy the US import of cds because they almost always have more tracks on, but there was no way to get the Itunes version so was left with very few options for getting the track (and its not like it was a dud track that noone would mind about!)
i find the whole US albums having more tracks thing rather odd. its not like they would have to repackage to provide it in the UK, we speak the same language (more or less) and music doesn't have an age ating system here besides a sticker saying 'parental guidance' if it involves bad language.
fortunately for me, there is another cd i want to buy as an import at the moment, so i can get both at the same time and save on shipping!
