Full Version: 6th October 1999 - A phenomenon was born!

Summer of 47
We've been discussing this on the OTOs thread, on Tuesday 6th October we will be able to celebrate the 10th anniverary of the TV premiere of Roswell (well for North Americans, the rest of us had to wait a lot longer for the show sad.gif ).

So how will you celebrate Roswell's 10th anniversary? Partaking of something sweet 'n' spicy or otherwise alien themed? A DVD Roswell-a-thon? Playing 'Here With me' at top volume?

I think we all have to do something, however minor, (and given time differences around the world not necessarily at the same time) to commemorate the birth of the Roswell phenomenon smile.gif

Yes. unfortunately time difference means I can't join in no.gif though I wish I could do just this once. Does anyone know if there were ever any true or invented Roswell recipes online at all? I feel the need for an Alien Blast on Tuesday lol.gif otherwise I might try chocolate cake with Tabasco essen.gif

You can order a fan based Crashdown cookbook here. I have it and it's got some good stuff in it. According to the cookbook the Alien Blast is a coffee drink with ice cream, it tells you how to make it plus adding chocolate to make it a mocha one. I don't know if it's what they intended for the show, but it sounds good wink.gif

I can't either. Perhaps in addition to the normal RVP, we can set up a thread, so people can post throughout the day?

birthday.gif to Roswell! 10 years old today and still in so many of our hearts hurray.gif

If you do anything special to commemorate the event please let us know grin.gif

I'll be off later to buy some chocolate birthday cake so I can try it with tabasco sauce...think I'll add the tabasco to a small piece first just in case it's revolting lol.gif
Berengaria
If you find yourself with a lot of time on your hands, you might try doing an Alien autopsy....dessert

OK, I took the plunge and tried the chocolate cake + tabasco - didn't Kyle once say something to Tess about the sweet 'n' spicy like "that isn't actually totally disgusting"? skep.gif lol.gif I did actually quite like it though I really enjoy spicy stuff anyway - just be sparing with the tabasco so you can still taste some chocolate though wink.gif

Well, it turns out I'm definitely not an alien. I put tabasco on my cereal, and it was not good.

Only the second season episodes when I saw it on TV here, I have never seen any of the S1 epis with original music sad.gif
Berengaria
You have really missed something. The music was a HUGE part of how great especially the first season was. The reason they couldn't use it on the DVD was because the little known groups who had contributed the music to the episodes became the really popular groups by the time the series ended. Couldn't afford what it would cost to pay off all those wonderful groups for their work.

Try Tabasco on ice cream. Yum!
vilandragirl
Do you have a specific flavor of ice cream? I know that you have mentioned it a number of times, so I really have to try eventually.

My personal opinion is that the TV vs DVD music is not as significant in the Pilot. The most memorable song for me is Crash Into Me, which is in both. As for other eps, I agree that many times the TV music is better, but there are some times that I actually prefer the DVD music. In any case, if they had to replace the music, I think they did make some good choices.

The Pilot is always fun to watch, because it really makes me remember how much I loved the Max and Liz relationship. But I think the biggest thing that you see in the Pilot vs some of the other eps is the relationship between Max, Isabel, and Michael. I loved how they really looked out for each other and understood each other. It also really mirrors the friendship between Liz, Maria, and Alex. You can really understand why it was so hard for Liz to keep the secret from them.

You've gotta love Valenti in this one ("Aren't you gonna read me my rights?" "Do you have any?"). And I see a little more of who Kyle is with each viewing of the Pilot.

Happy Anniversary, Roswell! Thank you to Jason Katims, Melinda Metz, and the whole cast and crew that brought us this series that still makes an impact 10 years later.
Pinkasso
I lent out my DVDs a few weeks back, but was glad to find Hulu has S1 and watch the Pilot yesterday!

TV.com listed their Top 10 Shows That Were Canceled Too Soon:

5. Roswell
(WB, 3 seasons, 61 episodes, ended in 2002)

This WB classic mixed aliens and humans long before District 9 was around -- and the aliens were a lot cuter, too. Katherine Heigl, Shiri Appleby, and Colin Hanks all got their big breaks on Roswell, but the honeymoon lasted only three seasons.

OTP on Roswell

TV.com has a feature on five shows whose fans (were) devoted to keeping their OTP (One True Pairing) together "by any means necessary":

Show: Roswell
Sinking Ship: Emilie de Ravin almost gets deported back to Australia
OK, it never actually came to that, but believe it or not, Max/Liz fans (“Dreamers”) were so incensed by the Max/Tess pairing that they began a petition to get Australian actor Emilie de Ravin (Tess) deported. Thankfully, nothing ever came of this misguided and rather heartless campaign. By the end of the series, the Dreamers got the wedding they’d hoped for all along. And while Tess didn’t make it out of Roswell alive, de Ravin has found even bigger success on Lost—with her Australian accent, no less.
