We're Over Thirty and Obsessed! Just like the title says!

smile.gif Everyone is welcome to post on the OTOs, BUT keep in mind this is a thread for Adults!
How do you know if this is the thread for you?
- Are the kids finally in bed or at practice somewhere and you need a moment with other Roswell Adults?
- Did your kids leave the nest and you no longer have to fight for the computer?
- You have no kids and enjoy posting with other Adult Roswell fans?
- Are you a mature 'under 30'?
Then this is the thread for you smile.gif

~ Poem by John aka Noseedough ~

Friendships are the best ships!
Our fun tips are the best quips,
and our pics...they rule the board
friendships are the best
we're definitely obsessed...
sometimes we may be hazy,
but we never do get stressed.
Some jump right in, don't be afraid
say what's on your mind
never fear...we all have strayed,
but fall right back in line.
We love you when you're different,
we love you when you're not,
we are the OTO's my friend,
the best that you have got!

Thanks for the thread start, Lori -- that last one went quickly and so did the past 10 years. I can remember driving home from work grinning and excited on Roswell nights. grin.gif

NanaJ: Congrats on getting that chunk of work done!

Tek: So cool.gif you d/l'd those songs! I've been singing "Three Stars, etc." to myself, and the theme from A Summer Place makes me all nostalgic for Troy Donahue -- who couldn't hold a candle to RC in the acting department, but still made my hearthrob.gif beat fast.

I remember James Darren introducing Goodbye, Cruel World on the Donna Reed Show. Shellly Fabares threw herself at him, then was mortified later. lol.gif

Watcher: Great anniversary poem! And all so true!
Lori R

I always enjoyed watching Troy and James in those movies. 'Summer Place' is one of my faves.

Nana J
Vin - Phooey! I appreciate your remarks on potting. But it looks like it won't work for me to say Pots. I haven't enough syllables to put in throw a pot. etc. I guess I could say: If I cant paint or work with clay.. Or If I can't paint or turn a pot, I'll find a song to sing. Yeah, I could do that. Thanks, Vin.

Hi there OTOs! wave.gif

Hi and thanks for the new thread Lori! tongue.gif

Hi and thanks Nana, LT! wave.gif

Tekgirl
Thanks for the new thread and the perfect title, Lori.

Nosee, thanks for your poem. I’ve been missing them. It was nice to see a new one.

Vin, I forget if the player I have is a DVD that plays VCDs or what… I bought it with the hope of getting the Roswell VCDs and never got them – so I never took the gizmo out of the box. (Fortunately, it was pretty cheap as I recall). It’s somewhere in the back of a closet. I should dig it out…

nod.gif I still can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I always looked forward to Tuesday nights when Roswell was on.

LT, I had a crush on Troy Donahue, too. He wasn’t the world’s best actor, but he sure was pretty to look at. ….I ran into James Darren at a gas station. (He was pumping his own gas.) I nearly swooned. He was way beyond his “Gidget” years, but he sure looked great. He still does. That man has aged well. …Uh, I didn’t have the nerve to throw myself at him… so, on the bright side, I was never mortified liked Shelly Fabares was. wink.gif

Lori, I loved “A Summer Place.” …I remember when Troy was in some airplane disaster movie (Was it "The Crowded Sky?") and they played “Theme from A Summer Place” when he first appeared on screen. …As if his fans didn’t know who he was. lol.gif

wave.gif Vicki. I see you lurking. Long time no post (and long time no talk). What have you been up to?

SO47 - Roswell is being re-run currently. I think it's still showing anyway - it's on one of the freeview digital channels. Not a BBC one though. I forget which and which day but I have seen it in the listings as I've flicked through occasionally - at the weekends, I think. I didn't re-watch look.gif

I don't have my VCDs anymore... I threw them out during a clean-out as I have the DVD box-set and never watch that either look.gif

Hope everyone is well? I'll be quiet for a week or two. Work is pretty busy at the moment, and I'm re-writing my grant in the few spare minutes I have between experiments, so don't have time to come here at the moment sad.gif

Really? It was on Sci-fi for a long time and they had exclusive rights (and I don't have pay TV), I assume it would never be on free TV again.

Ah, now I found it on E4 on Sunday at 10.15am though it doesn't say what episode. Thanks for the heads-up. There are just too many flippin' channels these days to check - I preferred it when we had only 4 innocent.gif

I just watched the first episode of 'True Blood', and it looks like a very interesting show, if you accept that someone as cute as Sookie couldn't get a date innocent.gif. I didn't realise until I surfed that Bill was played by an English actor and with Anna Paquin being a Canadian/Kiwi, well HBO like to be cosmopolitan in their casting as with 'The Wire'. Some interesting, erm, bedroom antics too lol.gif

Checking in! Been busy recovering from son's Bday party which last the whole weekend and into Monday. The kids were off from school, so we had several sleep overs. eek.gif His entire football team showed up to his party. Talk about a full house. lol.gif

Off to pick the kids up and then to football practice and soccer pratice. Good thing hubby takes the little one to soccer.

Have a great weekend!
Tekgirl
SO47, enjoy discovering the pleasures of True Blood. BTW, Ryan Kwanten, who plays Sookie’s brother Jason, is an Aussie. The Brit, the Kiwi and the Aussie all do great Southern accents. (Of course, this is coming from a West Coast girl who might not notice if they slipped up.)

Spook, good luck getting your grant funded. If you do, I hope that means you’ll be working full-time.

Vicki, nice to see your pixels on the board. Did you sign up for Comic Con 2010 yet?

jero, thanks for the SU heads up. I'll watch it tonight. I hope I get hooked on the series.

BTW, for all of you fans of the original show of The Prisioner, 3 more eps are being shown tonight on the IFC Channel.

Stargate Universe is on tonight.

Later,
I have been taping the Stargate Universe, it's okay so far.

I got into the santuary tonight too, but since I've missed season 1, can you explain a few things for me. Please & Thank You. smile.gif

My"guess" is that somehow some scientists went to another world. & that someone found a vampire item, & these two things are tied to each other?

I understood that blond girl getting a tranfusion of 2 different DNA's, but don't get where these "beast" comes in? ( the one that is locked away.)

I am going to tape that horror one tommorrow, the one where the kids are all under the sign of the devil, I forgot the name of the series but it looked like it would be interesting, 6 kids "possessed"

HeavyMetalQueen
It's "our" Thanksgiving" this weekend, so I'll be off to my partents house on Sunday & tommorrow night My friend is stopping over. so should be a good weekend.

My Mom told my cousin, the "latest" e-mail form my nephew was sad, he lost a buddy , Mom said in the barracks, I don't know really for sure, but he's still sad over the leave of his fiancee. But he will be over at the Olympics in Vancouver next year, he still doens't want to go there, but has no choice.

He said it's still hotter in H( double hockey sticks), over in Afganistan. I mean to e-mail him back, but need a day so I can bawl.gif as I read this one . so not much else to report from me, I pretty much watch too much t.v. & am giving myself a break from cards.I really can't deal with idiots anymore. & that one guy is so unreal he's so rude eek.gif .

okay My sleeping pills are taking effect now.

Thanks for the new thread Lori,

If you've read the books it's quite believable. Sookie's "disability/gift" is explained as how hard it was for her growing up hearing everything that flitted through people's minds. When teachers or people didn't like her, when she tried dating a boy what was going thru his mind was gross for her. She's in a small southern town and most people have come to think she's crazy. She chooses to isolate herself mostly. That is why she's SO attracted to the Vampires. She can't "hear" them so to her they are peaceful to her brain and they make her feel normal.

I way overdid today and forgot to eat. Not good.

Di we really need to try a group chat before the next RVP. I'll look for you on Live Messenger this weekend to see if we can figure out what was wrong last time.

HMQ you can read brief summaries of Sanctuary eps here> Sanctuary... You can also watch the last 5 eps, which would be better than the summaries. wink.gif

I'll try to answer your questions... Dr. Magnus, John and Tesla are over 150 yrs old. When they were at university, they somehow obtained a sample of the source blood of the original vampires. They injected themselves with it and it changed each of them in different ways. Tesla became a vampire. John can transport. Magnus' blood gives longevity... Maybe someone else can explain it better. shrug.gif

Exactly. In the books she's .....gifted in the boobie area and she's constantly hearing guys think about it in the bar lmao.gif When she gets overwhelmed she's supposed to get this crazy smile on her face. Anna P hasn't quite pulled that off but Sookie is a hard character to act. IMO the TV show in first season has a bit of a hard time breaking from the book verse. Much is word for word directly from the book {the entire first ep is the first 20 pages or so} once they start writing more stuff in, lots of that didn't work well for me. Maybe it's better if you haven't read the books? Book verse is from Sookies POV so you don't see a lot of what goes on. You hear Jason is a manwhore but you don't get details cause Sookie doesn't WANT to know. Showverse {being HBO} uses Jason to sex things up. I will say, while I thought first season was a bit of a disappointment, second season really came into it's own and rocked {more Eric and Pam}. I always thought of Sookieverse as being more of a gals world but I'm hearing more and more guys are really into it. My BLACKSMITH is addicted lmao.gif which is funny as he's neither a reader type or a TV or Sci fi type of guy.

I bailed on the horse show today cause I felt bad and YAY I just got a call and it's pouring rain there.

Jero~ I started watching Sanctuary but I dislike Amanda as an actress { I thought she was even worse in this than SG1} so I quit. Did it get better? I liked the daughter and the guy.
Summer of 47
Thanks again Vin for your thoughts re True Blood.

I just watched a movie called 'The Fountain' - it's either completely brilliant or complete tripe, I'm not sure which lol.gif Has anyone else seen it? Thing is at the start of the credits it listed Nick Wechsler as executive producer - turns out there are two Nick Wechslers shock.gif and this one wasn't the one we know and love as Kyle. But there was a character called Isabel, sigh, seems like I'm always reminded of Roswell innocent.gif
Lori R
Summer yes, there are two Nick's. Ours doesn't produce or direct. Wish he would act in something else though.

jero your explanation of 'Sanctuary' was good. Unlike Vinity, I like Amanda as an actress. She's one reason I started watching 'Sanctuary'. Plus I liked the premise and how they do the show.

HMQ I'm sorry your nephew lost a friend sad.gif

Vinity please don't forget to eat. Unfortunately I never forget sad.gif
I hope you feel better.

Groundhog you watching the Longhorns?

We spent the last two nights at the home of The Perfect Grandchild. We went to the Richmond Folk Festival yesterday and saw a lot of good and different acts -- Irish, blues, bluegrass, Indian (both Asian and Native American), Mongolian. Cool stuff! TPG really enjoyed the music and clapped when everyone else did.

One workshop, as they called it, was on the slide guitar and one of the players had done music for "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" My son recognized his voice, but I'll have to rent it again and see if I can recognize him. Also need to ask my son for hiis name since I've forgotten (not my son's name). grin.gif

We offered to let my son and DIL sleep in, and somehow I was the one who woke up with TPG at 6 a.m. One day he needed a change and today just a drink, and he was back to sleep for two hours. However, I was awake. rolleyes.gif I did nap most of the way home, though.

NanaJ: He's not walking yet, but oh, so, close.

jero: Thanks for the Friday night heads-up, but my son doesn't have cable so I couldn't get Scyfy. I'll have to catch up elsewhere. (I just saw your link for Sanctuary. Thanks for posting it.)

Happy Thanksgiving, HMQ! Hope you have a good time with the family.

A late birthday.gif Vicki!

Tek, SO47: Thanks for the heads-up on "The Fountain." Too bad that Hugh didn't get a good vehicle.

Lori: Glad to hear test results are good. Do you get the three-day weekend for Columbus Day? I plan to go to the grocery store tomorrow, then read the rest of the day. grin.gif

Spook: Good luck with the grant!
Lori R
LTL the kids get a 3 day weekend for Columbus Day, but staff has to work. I will be getting my GT update. Glad you had time with The Perfect Grandchild smile.gif

Tek miss chatting with you.

Wild miss chatting with you too.

Vicki ditto the above.

Berengaria and Vinity wave.gif

It has rained here all weekend and expected to all week. It seems like we've had more wet days than dry since school started.

I spent yesterday and today napping. I have been tuckered out.
Tekgirl
Lori, your kids get Columbus Day off and the teachers don't??? rant.gif!!!! Not fair - not fair at all. If Columbus knew, he'd be mad. nod.gif ...Ditto, been thinking about you and miss chatting, too.

LT, a weekend of TPG and folk music? Sounds like you had a fabulous weekend.

Vin, how are you feeling today?

WB, how is Teddy?

I saw 2 movies: Bruce Willis' "Surrogates" and Woody Harrelson's "Zombieland." "Surrogates" was interesting (not a must see movie though); it did make me think about the ramifications if that technology were truly achievable. "Zombieland" was fun, but a tad long at 90 minutes. Jesse Eisenberg (the other star of the movie) is adorable. I saw him on one of the late night talk shows and he was very endearing. He reminds me a lot of Michael Cera.
Summer of 47
wave.gif

Hmm, well recording Roswell off the TV seems to compare badly to the DVDs, poorer quality picture and sound and letterbox widescreen instead of full screen - not too mention having to edit out ad breaks. I haven't watched it properly yet to compare the music, I assume it will be the original soundtrack, but I really prefer the DVD boxset for quality.

Lovely morning here though, sunny with a fresh northerly breeze and about 55F / 13C but with the days getting much shorter it feels like autumn is really here now, with the leaves turning colour. It's alternating between 1 day cool and wet and the next day cool and sunny.

LTL re 'The Fountain' I was worried that maybe I just didn't get it so I'm glad that Tekgirl put it in the tripe category lol.gif It has some nice visuals, Rachel Weisz looks lovely as Queen Isabel and there is Hugh Jackman for the ladies wink.gif but I couldn't recommend it - too boring sad.gif

So do I! lol.gif I only have freeview as well, yet I only watch a handful of those channels. Loads of channels and never anything on TV worth watching spineyes.gif lol.gif

I wasn't keen on True Blood. Does it get better? look.gif It just didn't grab me... Flash Forward hasn't grabbed me yet either (less so than True Blood). Maybe I'm getting too jaded in my TV watching nowadays frown.gif

Everyone pray for a moth that Pip is trying to save. It's far too cold for moths now, so it's probably going to die soon, but Pip saved it from the jaws of our dog (literally) and has nursed it all weekend. She's lovingly given it shelter in the garden, and petals and sugar water to drink (which it has taken). I was sure it would be dead this morning, but it's not. Amazing creature! It has a hole in it's head where the dogs tooth was and yet it hasn't died! Pip is so concerned about it, I hadn't the heart to finish it off swiftly. I think we'll have to have a funeral for it when it finally does go. look.gif
Vinity
Aww poor moth! I can't beleive it's eating.

I think second season of True Blood is good but for you, Spook, I think there would be too many things that bothers you to ever enjoy it.

I keep DVRing Flash Forward but I've only watched the first. I'll prolly erase them. It's not doing much for me either. Yeah, for some reason TV isn't flipping my bic this year. Only SPN and Fringe is appointment TV.

I'm going to go back & watch "part 2" of "Darkness", ( I think it's called darkness falls) anyways, it's okay kinda slow.

still gota watch amazing race & desperae housewives, although when I came in last night heard the vcr tape rewinding so I think I missed 20 minutes of DH. cry.gif )

I've just seen first episode of True Blood as well and also wasn't 'grabbed' by it. I just didn't find Sookie or Bill believable sad.gif thought their acting was rather wooden as well cry.gif I'll give it another go next week before making final decision though.

Not seen Flash Forward yet. I seem to be more hooked on reality tv these days (Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor) - maybe it's just because I'm so busy at work I have no brain power left to watch interesting TV lol.gif Although I have been watching jane austen's EMMA as well.

LTL like the sound of the folk festival grin.gif

Son#1 just got a regular slot as a DJ on the university radio - and with the wonders of technology I was able to listen to it on my laptop. You have to be a really dedicated mum to sit through 3 hrs of dance music just to listen to the DJ links spineyes.gif After a while all the 'records' just seemed to sound exactly the same spineyes.gif

Best wishes to the Moth. The window at work had been left open overnight and this morning our office was invaded by ladybirds - sadly they all seemed to be dying sad.gif Perhaps we'll all be having insect funerals shock.gif

HMQ - Speaking of Desperate Housewives--I fell asleep in the last 15 minutes. Anyone care to tell me what happened?

Haven't seen the Fountain so I can't comment.

Carleigh got me laughing yesterday. She and her 5 year old friend were in the back seat of the car. I had to apply brakes more quickly than usual as the car ahead of me suddenly slowed down. Evidently the girls were pretending to be squirrels. When I braked, Carleigh yelled out "Kylie, hold on to your nuts!" When I stopped laughing, I explained that little girls should not say that.

I am drinking a cup of the new instant Columbian coffee from Starbucks. Certainly stronger than the usual instant. Dissolves very easily. They have two varieties--Italian Roast and Columbian. I think I prefer the Italian. Did I mention before that I was told to put a spoon of it in brownie mix for a nice mocha flavor?

I was hoping to get to writing today, but by the time I had done some clearing and clearing off of my writing desks, and returned some calls, guess what? Morning was over.

Lori - if I think of it I may take a photo of Carleigh's second grade classroom. It is really delightfully decorated --and the teacher has real control of the kids. She makes up little songs (uses familiar tunes) to teach them the spelling words. They do movements to them and, boy, are they into it. When C. was absent because of the flu, the teacher's husband wrote her a card! Above and beyond! I worked with C. on addition and before she left, we went through the flash cards and she only missed one. Next week I will work on subtraction.

Spook - How long do moths live generally? It is wonderful to see your daughter reacting in such a caring manner. That speaks volumes! Good luck on the re-writing.

Can't wait for November 13th--and the release of the music from the movie 2012--which features Adam Lambert singing Time for Miracles.

Thanks to a little tough talking from the court, my grandson is attending school again. And finding it isn't so bad after all.

Onward!

I would love to see pictures of C's classroom. Sounds like a good Teacher!

Spook good thoughts for Pip's moth.

janet how cool.gif you can hear your son DJ smile.gif

Tek, Vinity, LTL, Summer and any missed wave.gif

Right after lunch today I got really dizzy and apparently white. I really thought I was going to pass out. My co-workers watched me like a hawk. It was nearly 1 1/2 hours before my color returned. The dizziness turned to light headed. What is up with that?

I've just seen first episode of True Blood as well and also wasn't 'grabbed' by it. I just didn't find Sookie or Bill believable sad.gif thought their acting was rather wooden as well cry.gif I'll give it another go next week before making final decision though.

DVR it and FF thru all the Bill/Sookie and nekkid Jason scenes. Keep Sam, Lafayette, and any Eric, Pam and ...oh the kid of Bills, she ends up great second season. I think Sookie and Bill don't work either. I am a much begger fan of Sookie and Eric. She has a lot more sass with Eric instead of trying to be in LURVE!! Funny that Anna P and Bill dude fell in love in real like and have married cause IMO no chemistry on film.

Congrats on son grin.gif

Lori eek.gif feel better

NanaJ ~ I would tell a very funny Michael story but it's too dirty. Kids can be so funny.

No big surprise, back has been borderline today after overworking Lance last night. He was so good tho. Must exercise more!!!

It's 50s and raining. Joy! lol.gif Wooley Worms is gonna be downright cold. Planning fire in fireplace in big room. DV has claimed the haunted room in the old house. Michael and I are in the new section right next door.

SO47, I wish “The Fountain” had been better. I sure do like a good sci fi movie.. but “The Fountain” was a disappointment. The movie was yawn.gif.

Spook, aww, Pip has such a big heart. ..Don’t tell her that when I get moths in my home I squash them as quickly as I find them….

The moth died frown.gif Pip handled it OK, actually. Just up and buried it, hook her shoulders and moved on...

I'm not here though... I'm writing my grant... look.gif As soon as I can remember how to change colours on jpeg images using adobe lol.gif

Spook sorry to hear about Pip's moth.

I was watching the X-Files episode 'Oubliette' last night (the one with a young Jewel Staite) and I realised the the actor who played a creepy child kidnapper was Michael Chieffo, who played the biology teacher in Roswell in 'Sexual Healing'. Little things...I think I need an OCD section in this forum innocent.gif lol.gif

To embed copy entire embed addy off to side of youtube box [*youtube] paste url[/*youtube] take out any spaces and * and it will enbed.

Did you guys see the Office? They used that vid as a plot for Jim and Pam's wedding. It was a riot

I didn't know Jewel Staite was ever in xfiles. I bet if I went back thru them I'd see a lot of Canadian actors I know know. I just wished they used Brendan as a young Mulder at some point. They look less alike as Brendan ages.

Gonna vent! mad.gif Why can't I find good barn help!! Is everyone incompetent? Then frelling mail man drives up into the driveway with a registered letter. Does he get out and knock? Hell no! He blows the crapping horn. Then waits 30 seconds and blows out of the driveway. The house is big. I sent to the wrong door and caught him driving away. Geesh!! Get out of your fraken car you lazy son of a bitch, it's your damn job!

jero, I bet these people will still be lol.gif over their wedding entrance dance in 50 years. (Hopefully they'll still be married in 50 years.) Vin gave you great vid posting instructions. But here's the vid:

.

SO47, I bet we could fill several threads with posts from OCD Roswellians. I am proud be be one, too. Add me to the list. grin.gif ....Isn't it fun when you run across Roswell actors in other shows?

Spook, glad to read that Pip took her moth's demise so well.

Vin, our "service" people don't provide quite the same service they used to. I routinely find my mail crumpled because the mail carrier hastily shoves my mail into my mailbox. <<<sigh>>>

I thought this was pretty amazing. For any who have read or listened {you can listen and watch Neil Gaiman read Graveyard Book for free on his site. Mouse circus link} to the Graveyard Book someone has made this wonderful vid of the "dance the Macabrey" scene. If anyone wants to go listen, it's chapter 5 I think. Once every 100 years or so, when a certain flower blooms in late winter, the ghost and townfolk come together and dance the Macabrey.

Spook: Glad Pip took the moth's passing in stride. There are so many bugs out there to love.

jero, Vin: Thanks for the dancing vids. Too funny!

SO47: We should just rename ourselves Over Thirty and OCD. lol.gif

Lori: Hope you're feeling better.

NanaJ: Carleigh's remarks had me lmao.gif Kids are such a riot.

My ESOL student (not a kid) and I were talking about "fr" sounds, doing red and Fred, and rock and frock, etc. Except when we got to "frock", she pronounced it a little differently and asked in a kind of shocked voice if that was a bad word. grin.gif So we had a discussion about "that" word and another popular one that begins with "s". Tonight we got into a discussion of "queasy" and throwing up. Not exactly according to the text, but things she wanted to know.

I'll be here tonight for the RVP. Max in the City?

Lori R
Vinity and LTL yes, I feel better. I think it was a med thing. Who knows. It seems I do that more and more sad.gif

Vinity I would have been furious too if the post person acted like that. Sheesh!

LTL I think it cool.gif that you were able to have a learning discussion with that person over the language difference smile.gif

Tek that was so gross about the food! I hope you let them have it when you call them.

Summer good catch on the 'teacher' being in X-Files.

Spook sorry the moth died. It wasn't unexpected, but I'm glad Pip is doing okay with the loss. Good luck on the grant writing.

I had a good day despite the never ending rain smile.gif

I hope to be around for the RVP.

I wonder what the life span of a moth is anyway? And when you are dealing with insects that change state is life span counted over all the entire stages or just the final when we mainly see them?

Speaking of insects. We're off to the Wooley Worm Fastival and races on thursday. I hope we can find a wooley worm as fast as Cheeky Monkey from 2 years ago.
