Katherine did such an amazing job - that last scene with the Chief was wonderful. So much emotion.

I thought the ending a was a bit abrupt...the note to Alex...noone even mentioning the fact she was fired...

There's one reason I liked this episode: I finally made the decision and I'm done with this show. I'll of course keep watching Katie's scenes when she comes back but that's all. And when I miss it I'll watch my season 1&2 DVDs. smile.gif

From the Writers Blog worthy praise for Katie's performance:

Yup, Izzie is gone. Fired by the Chief who, these days, is looking for the slightest excuse to fire ANYONE. Maybe she went back home. Or to visit friends. Or just took off for points unknown. But yes, people, Izzie Stevens, third year resident and surgical rising star, no longer works at Seattle Grace/Mercy West. The hospital, new name and all, is in her rear view mirror. George’s death, her stage four cancer, coming back to work too soon – it all proved too much – and now she’s headed off to God knows where. And it was heartbreaking to see her get fired, to see her plead for her job but firings are pretty much always horrible. And I wanted the scene to convey that sudden sense of loss, of hopelessness, and with the help of Katie Heigl’s fantastic acting, I think it did. But more on Izzie and the broken-hearted Alex later.

One thing I did find surprising was, given the fact Izzie donated what $8 million to the hospital - for the clinic...that she wouldn't have been at least offered some sort of position elsewhere in the hospital.

Yes, Katherine was brilliant, of course, as usual. But this episode? Didn't really do it for me.

The firing of Izzie could have been done in so many different ways, and this wasn't great in my opinion.

A rookie mistake? Costing a woman an organ, i.e. a sensitive issue for Izzie in particular? Wasn't that a bit cruel to a character many people still care deeply for?
Maybe firing Izzie was a good way to give our girl what she wants, i.e. leave of absence to pursue what she obviously loves without leaving the show, but I still feel that the character deserved some dignity, yah know?

Katherine does everything with dignity, but some people still have a lot of emotions invested in Izzie and they could have thrown a dog a bone here...

But I suppose that I should wait for her return before judging, really... smile.gif

Indeed nod.gif. Another thing that bugged me is that how the Chief fired Izzie was ILLEGAL!! The fact that her stamina is one of the reasons is a ground for a lawsuit. Human rights laws clearly disallow discrimination on the grounds of disability which includes illness since Izzie is still living with cancer. He could have simply put Izzie at clinic duty full time with no surgery, or give her a position of teaching (which she was doing anyways better than anyone else at SGH with good results) to improve the interns/younger residents that needed help to improve their surgery skills. There is a ton of ways Shonda and Co. could have done this in a realistic fiction manner, but they couldn't even do that.

They simply could have took the stamina out, but that would mean they couldn't have the Izzie OOC note cliffhanger (something we seen far too often on this show with multiple characters acting out of character just for the sake of a cliffhanger). Izzie would have never left a note. That's not her style and completely out of character. Izzie has always been a character without a filter and is more direct. She would have had a fight with Alex, and told him she was leaving for a bit. Instead of portraying Izzie in character they opted for an out of character moment just to get a cliffhanger ending. Man, did they mess up no.gif.

I presume Izzie just reacted in the way she did because of the Chief mentioning Alex and her blaming him in some way for what happened. She obviously didn't realise he was trying to act in her best interests. The question is..where has she gone..given she doesnt have a place to live. Back to her mother and the trailer park?

Well the reason wasn't stamina - thats why he had to give the speech with the line the primary reasons were budgetary etc..but she could well have a case still.

I wonder if they will attempt to address what happened to her next week - I mean at the moment do they even realise she has been fired. It certainly didn't appear so.

I didn't like the episode... I just liked Izzie's scenes, cuz Katherine is awesome grin.gif... but that is it...
smile.gif
I think the writers could have done sth else, but it just... seemed desperate for them to write like this... so anyways... I'll just watch Izzie episodes now... smile.gif

This episode was tonight again. I can't watch it... It is too sad for me... cry.gif It's easy to believe in reality of Katherine's acting and I always feel her pain... So I didn't watch it... blush.gif

The scene with the Chief when she loses her job..highlight of Season 6 for me so far. She was amazing.
