KROQ WEENIE ROAST Y FIESTA
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Irvine, Calif.
May 19, 2007
By Christina Radish
The annual KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta, taking place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, Calif. on May 19th, had some of today’s strongest, most popular rock bands on the line-up, mixed with promising newcomers.
Always one of the most eagerly anticipated and hardest to get into rock shows, the Weenie Roast hosted 11 bands on the main stage, with four more acts on a smaller side stage, that boasted a solo performance from Rancid’s Tim Armstrong. Local favorites Linkin Park headlined the day-long bash, mixing new material from their recently released Minutes to Midnight with their previous hits. Other heavy-hitters, such as Korn, Queens of the Stone Age and Interpol, rounded out the bill with Orange County legends Social Distortion, punk icons Bad Religion, actor-turned-rocker Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds to Mars, The Bravery, Rise Against and Tiger Army. Although The Killers had to cancel at the last minute, due to singer Brandon Flowers’ unfortunate case of bronchitis, Brandon Boyd and Mike Einziger of Incubus filled in for them, playing a handful of their biggest hits, in what was the only acoustic performance of the day.
