There was no way a show this popular in its first season could do a season finale without a cliffhanger. And boy does SyFy deliver with this one! When the end credits role, the viewer will be wondering how the heck the producers are going to dig themselves out of that, and if that final scene really just happened. The episode Machperson, written by show runner Jack Kenny, digs deeply into the past history of Artie and his former partner, as the hunt to bring him down continues. We also learn just exactly how he got into the warehouse recently, in a surprising revelation of recent events that will set up a great deal of angst amongst the main characters next season. Also, there is a traitor, and we don’t yet know why, but it’s a shocker, and the end results of that betrayal are explosive. For the first time in the series, all of the major characters share a scene together. And finally, the episode pays homage to the original Raider of the Lost Ark, or rather to the role he played in Star Wars in a scene that must have been intentionally meant to call back memories of one of the most iconic films in science fiction history. The episode delivers the requisite excitement, and drama with a bit of comedy that its fans have come to expect. And it’s going to be a very long winter before we find out how this all turns out.
Launched as the flagship show for the newly rebranded SyFy channel, Warehouse 13 established itself as a powerhouse early in its first season. Described by some, as The X-files meets Raiders of the Lost Ark, the show has established itself on it’s own playing field with a combination of sci-fi and steampunk gadgets along with an occasional dose of the supernatural mixed in for good measure. The relationship of the show’s two leads, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) and Keith Lattimer (Eddie McClintock), former secret service agents turned agents of the warehouse where the most dangerous artifacts in the world are stored, was contentious at times, but eventually grew into respect. She is by the book (and has even read it), and he gets by on vibes. Though the two worked well together and developed mutual admiration and respect.
The show chose to do something rarely heard of in series television, bringing a new major character in part ways through the season. Allison Scagliotti, joined the team as Claudia Donovan after hacking into the bowels of the Warehouse computer system in an attempt to help her older brother. It was either that, or be silenced because she knew too much. The relationship that developed between Artie (Saul Rubinek) and Claudia quickly redefined an already popular show, and the chemistry between the actors was as evident as it was between the characters they played.
Allison and Saul are mutually complimentary of each other in today’s dueling feature interviews as they tease us about the finale, and give their thoughts on their on and off screen relationships, as well as what they’d like in season two. (Here’s a hint, think the Flintstones meet the Jetsons!) |
