Pink performing at Wed Rock: A Benefit Concert for Freedom to Marry held at  The Avalon in Hollywood, Calif. on November 7, 2005
After a 4 year absence, Pink sang to a sold out crowd at The Avalon, in Hollywood, Calif. on June28th. Supporting her new album, “I’m Not Dead,” released this past April, Pink proved she’s still got it. Maturity has also come with her return, with pop tunes having been replaced by rock anthems.

Donning a girly, 50’s style black and green dress (her own design), Pink bounced across the stage, taking time to talk to the crowd and her band members. She spent quite a lot of time sitting and laying on the floor, which I can only image was to recover and maintain the level of energy she had throughout the show.

Before “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” she said to give Britney Spears some love because she could really use it, evidently referring to Spears’ infamous interview with Matt Lauer.  Poking fun at tabloid celebrities, Pink pranced the catwalk and posed during “Stupid Girls,” a definite crowd favorite. Although she announced she had dropped Janis Joplin from her set and was greeted with moans, she still plays Linda Perry’s 4 Non Blondes song, “What’s Up.”

For the encore, she returned to the stage in a grey tank top and baggy jeans, which she kept pulling up. Sitting on stools Pink, her guitarist, keyboardist and back up singer performed the highly controversial song, “Dear Mr. President.” Pink described it as “the song we’re not supposed to talk about,” and added that after recently playing it in Seattle, Washington, it had become one of the top most request songs on radio. The song addresses President Bush, and tackles issues such as war, gay rights and abortion.

Pink rocked the place from start to finish. Hopefully, Los Angeles won’t have to wait another four years for a repeat.
