Emmy finally recognizes some, and continues to overlook others!

emmys I would think that the Emmy would finally get it COMPLETELY right this year, but as usual there is no such thing as perfect.

Starting with Dramas, I would think that “Lost” would at least get nominated this year.  Despite having a rather rough beginning, “Lost” had completely redeemed itself by the end of the season.  In fact, “Lost” had reached the heights that had seldom been seen since the first season.  While I like “House” and “Heroes,” they are just not on the same excellent level as “Lost.”  Is this a popularity contest, or a judgement of quality?

However, I am delighted that “Boston Legal” got a nod for best Drama.  Not only that, but Emmy also recognized James Spader and William Shatner for their continued excellence.  “Boston Legal” has been so severly underappreciated that this terrific news almost consoles me over “Lost’s” snub.  “Grey’s Anatomy” and the “Sopranos” are not on my viewing list.  I still can’t believe that the glorified soap-opera that is “Grey’s” got nominated over “Lost!”

Hugh Laurie and Kiefer Sutherland were very deserving candidates as Lead Actor, and I was thrilled to see Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn getting nods as well.  Cheers to Forest Whitaker, Christian Clemenson, and especially Jean Smart for getting some attention for their terrific acting abilities!  But where are Michael Fox, Candice Bergen, and Elizabeth Mitchell?  So disappointing!  At least “Studio 60” got two acting nods!

As for comedys, I am glad that the “Office” and “30 Rock” got nominated, but I’m disappointed that “Scrubs” was overlooked yet again!  Why is there “Two and a Half men” there?  Ugh!

Tina Fey deserves to win as Best Actress so badly, and I’m screaming with glee that she got nominated!  Steve Carrell and Ricky Gervais are always great, but I hope that Baldwin takes the Emmy home, despite his public troubles.  “The Office” got nods from the terrific Jenna Fischer and the delightful Rainn Wilson.  I don’t what Ian Mckellen got nods for, but I hope he wins that as well.

Overall, this was a disappointing Emmy ballot with a few sparkling surprises.  However, that is not enough to justify no “Lost,” “Studio 60,” and “Supernatural”!  I give Emmy a 6/10
