"Death or no Death?" [Lost]

Okay, who thought Charlie was going to die tonight?  The way that Charlie went through the "greatest hits" of his life made me feel as though we were going to end up saying goodbye to this 'has-been rock star.'  I know that many people wouldn't mind bidding farewell to Charlie and his sometimes-annoying observations, but ever since Dominic Monaghan made his Middle-Earth debut in my world as a hairy-footed hobbit, he instantly became one of my favorite actors.  When I heard that he was going to be on a show called Lost, that was the reason I decided to watch it, regardless of the show's storyline.  Charlie has always been my favorite character in Lost, and I think that it would be a tragic mistake to eliminate his character!

This was one of the most intense episodes of the season, and I have the constant urge to give every episode of Lost a 10/10, because I'm just so glad that Lost is back on track!!!

We finally found out about why Rousseau was in the Black Rock getting dynamite way back in "The Brig."  Apparently, all this time Jack was organizing a strike against the others, and he recruited Rousseau!  I'll have to admit that Jack's plan is actually is quite brilliant, and after Matthew Fox getting more screen time in this episode -- I've forgiven him for his friendship with the duplicitous Juliet.

Then after shooting Locke, Ben makes another completely unpredictable move -- he gives the order for the raid on the camp to happen tonight!  Then Alex tells Karl who encounters on one wild adventure to tell the castaways that their impending doom is…well…more impending!  I can't help but feel that Ben is up to one of his manipulative schemes, and I wouldn't be that shocked if it turns out that he has something else entirely up his twisted little sleeve.

In my opinion, this was the best Charlie-centric episode ever!  I really did think he was going to die, and the fact that this was the penultimate episode lent credence to my assumption that something drastically shocking was going to happen.  I suppose it was better this way…

According to the Book of Desmond, Charlie was supposed to go to the underwater hatch (Yay! Another mystery revealed!) and flip the switch, drown, and as a result, Claire and Aaron would be rescued by a helicopter.  However, it turns out that this 'flooded' hatch really isn't all that abandoned, which makes me wonder if Juliet really knew about this beforehand and she really is working for Ben.  Or maybe Ben knew that the castaways might attempt to disable the jamming frequency, so he posted some 'others' there to keep guard.  Or maybe these people are working of their own accord and have no alliance with the others.  Or maybe…I should stop here, seeing as my head is dangerously close to exploding!

Overall, this was an excellent episode of Lost, and I can't wait till next week's season finale!  Fortunately, Charlie didn't die yet, but then again his fate was left open-ended.  Fingers crossed!  Personally, I am more worried about the alleged spoiler-ish death count for the finale -- FIVE DEATHS!  I give this perfect penultimate episode a 9/10!  Oh yeah, Rose and Bernard are back!?!
