"Now comes the hard part" [Heroes]

This really is the hard part, hard to watch I mean.  Okay, I don't mean that Heroes has been hard to watch the season, quite the contrary, but after watching 24's fraktastic episode before this…well, it felt rather lame in comparison.  I actually felt glad for the first time in weeks that I decided to watch 24 first rather than Heroes.  Well, enough about 24…

This episode had some fine work in it, and there were the usual dosage of thought-provoking and mind-bending scenes.  This was one ordinarily solid episode, and that was my problem with it -- 'ordinarily.'  I guess my expectations were too high, seeing as Heroes was climbing an insurmountable mountain, each episode better than the previous.   It was only a matter of time before the momentum slowed down a bit, and as a result, I felt a little let down.

However, there were some parts of the episode that were down right remarkable.  It seemed that the theme of this episode was attempted redemption, and second chances.  One of the more notable instances to that theory was Sylar's usual scene stealing performance.  We got to meet his mother, who delivered some truly heartbreaking moments.  In a Heroes trademark 'whoa' moment, Sylar freezes some water droplets and sends these little chilled specimens swirling around the room, simulating a snowglobe.  Zachary Quinto delivers that fascinating cold demonic glint in his eye, and it was only fitting to his comic book villain character, that he kills his mother.

Trailing Sylar is the relentless time-manipulating Hiro, and his loyal sidekick, Ando.  In my opinion, the best moment of the episode is when Hiro attempts to kill Sylar.  I don't know which character I like more!

Peter and Claire uncover that Nathan is involved in some kind of sinister conspiracy, while Ted, Matt, and HRG try to throw off their trackers.  Adding to the mix is Molly, a girl capable of finding anyone.  Aided by Mohinder, who's just as uninteresting as usual, the girl abilities are revived.

As for the cliffhanger ending, apparently Peter is set into a radioactive frenzy by Ted.  Since the finale is still approx. 2 eppies away, chances are Peter will be saved.  Or maybe Claire will shoot him, only to revive him later?  Hmm…  Concerning the new revelation of Sylar being the bomb -- I don't buy it.  I think it may be someone entirely unlikely, say…Micah, or Linderman.  Speaking of Micah, I felt really bad for him to be trapped by Candice's powers.  Goodness, she has got some power -- being able to make you see whatever she wants.  She may decide to rise on her own and become a key player in this battle, that is, unless Sylar doesn't kill her and gain an invaluable skill in the process.

This episode may have not been up to the caliber of some of the more recent episodes, but it still was one good episode.  Two thumbs up, and a 8/10.
