"The Death of a Rock Star." [Lost]

If Lost had a silent clock like 24 sometimes does, it would be going off for Charlie right now.  I still can't believe my favorite hobbit was killed off my favorite show.  In any other case, I would immediately cease watching the show, but Lost is phenomenally wonderful these days -- making it incredibly difficult to even think about not watching the show next year.

After last week's ending, I, like an idiot, had thought that Charlie might not have to pay the ultimate price for Claire's rescue.  Fortunately, Charlie went out with a bang.  Although he was being tortured Other #1 and Sarah Gavin from Day 4 of 24…or Other #2, Charlie continued to deliciously deliver bits of his trademark arrogance, and even a hilarious performance of the legendary "You all everybody!"  Only Charlie could irritate the Others like that, and I found their annoyed reactions to be incredibly entertaining.

In the end, Charlie used his musician's knowledge to input the code to un-jam the jamming frequency.  Then Charlie gave his life to save Desmond from the flood resulting from Mikail's grenade, and proceeded to use his last moments to alert Desmond that Naomi wasn't an emissary from Penny Widmore.  What a hero!

Speaking of Naomi, who would have thought she could be related to another group of baddies?  She seems so nice, and she seemed to know a little bit about the Losties as well.  I wonder how much of what she's said so far is actually fact or fiction.  She could've been another Ben, that is until she was stabbed from afar by the thankfully alive John Locke.  I still can't believe the scene where Locke apparently revives himself from his paralysis and bullet-hole!  Was that really Walt?  Or was it a manifestation of the monster, like with Eko's brother.  It was really nice to see Walt again, even though he seems really old now.

Concerning Ben and his waning proficiency at manipulation, I really thought Sayid, Bernard, and Jin had died!  It seems as though more and more people are starting to call out Ben's lies.  Even though Jack really believe his people had died, he still plunged ahead with his plan.  But what boggles me is how Ben's own people are still following his orders.  Taking Richard and Mikail's questioning into consideration, I think that Ben might soon have a mutiny on his hands.  I thought that it was incredibly amusing that Ben was so confident about being able to talk Jack out of leaving the island.  He nearly managed to do so as well!  Ben's lies really are starting to catch up with him.  I wonder if Ben actually told the truth about Naomi…

As for the main plot with Jack, I've always known that Matthew Fox is a terrific actor, and tonight we got to see why that is.  The pure grief and desperation in his eyes both during the flashes and on the island is remarkable.  The man has talent!  I spy an Emmy Nomination….

We finally witnessed the much-heralded game changing moment, apparently the traditional flashback was revealed to be a flashfoward.  I wonder if this is going to be a permanent arrangement, and if it is…then how are we going to get Libby's promised flashback?  Moreover, I think that some characters deserve more flashbacks, and I cannot wait for some characters to actually get their first flashback, like Richard and Jacob.

I thought this was a terrific episode, and the ending completely blew me away.  So Jack and Kate eventually get rescued.  Who is in the coffin?  Why does Jack want to go back to the island so badly?  Ahh, my head wants to explode again!  I give this episode a 9.5/10.  This was one of the best episodes of Lost I have ever seen, and it was definitely the best of the season!  Goodbye Charlie…
