When I saw this show's series premiere for the first time, I initially dismissed it as a wannabe TV version of the X-men. However, I continued to watch each episode, growing increasingly in awe of the exponentially rising fan base. "There must be something about this show that I'm missing," I often thought to myself. So I inspected each episode closely, finally regarding it as a rather poor imitation of Lost meets 24.
That was my problem. I kept comparing Heroes to X-men, or Lost, when it actually was quite an original show built on unoriginal concepts. The moment I realized this, Heroes instantly became one of my most favorite shows. Sure, Heroes had amazing visual effects, and the mysterious feeling which made seem as though it had been ripped right out of a comic book, but what really intrigued me was its texture. When I watched Heroes, I felt that I was only seeing the tip of the iceberg, and that there were many more events to come, many more epic events.
This episode actually displayed some of those events. Peter is even more powerful, Hiro meets himself, the bomb has already gone off, Sylar kills the cheerleader, and Peter and Sylar face off yet again.
I loved the twist of Nathan actually being Sylar after consuming Candice's powers, and I found Matt's corrupt cop to be actually amusing. I liked Zachary Quinto when he was in 24, but now I love his character in Heroes. Contrary to the previous episode, where Sylar's fighting abilities were proven to be of a higher calibre than Peter's, this episode displayed Peter at the height of his power, and I gotta admit -- that was amazing!
There is so much more I want to write about this episode, but it is close to 1 o'clock a.m. and I am freakishly tired…so nighty-night!
I loved this episode, and it might actually reverse my tradition of watching 24 first then TiVo-ing Heroes. I give it a 9/10.
